Introduction
Alan Stuart
One of the most iconic and practical cars to be produced in Britain and used across every corner of the world - It's our off-road vehicle of choice, the Land Rover Defender.
The Defender began its life as the British equivalent of the Second World War derived (Willys) Jeep, and quickly gained a worldwide reputation for ruggedness and versatility.
The original car used a steel ladder chassis and aluminium alloy bodywork and was still being produced in developing countries despite the arrival of the relaunched Defender (L663.) The Defender incorporated significant changes compared to its predecessor, such as adopting coil springs, lockable center diffs along with a more modern interior.
This example is fitted with Land Rover's last in-house diesel, the five-cylinder Td5 which offers serious torque at low revs - ideal for plowing through waist-high mud! Coming to market from 12 years ownership from a very caring owner, it's had a full service and additional maintenance to a cost of ~£7,000 in June this year.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Riad the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hi
I couldn’t see any mention in the write up of the 4 wheel drive selector and it’s operation. please can you confirm the operation of 4wheel drive is in accordance with the Land Rover operating manual.
Thanks
Yes 4 wheel drive selector works as it should, not that I used it often. It always checked during service.
Hi Riad. Was it converted to a station wagon during your ownership or before and does it leak any oil now?
As far as I know this is how the car was supplied in 2000 no conversion was carried out. For a 21 year old car there is no noticeable oil leak.
From the VIN it indicates a hardtop van, but wanted to double check. Thanks
Hi Riad. Some TD5 engines prefix 10P were subject to cylinder head cracking around the injector ports. Do you know if this vehicle was affected and if a new cylinder head has been fitted? Thanks!
As far as I know this vehicle was not affected nor any problems experienced or reported by garage during services.
Have any parts been resprayed or is all the paint original? Have there been any more issues after the new ECU? Thanks.
In April 2016 the car underwent major refurbishment, the rear crossmember was stripped, primed and
painted, roof was dull, so again repainted and rest of car polished and detailed to a very high standards. As you can see in the photos it is kept that way.
No issues since the ECU was replaced.
Also the back door was replaced as rust was eating into it.
Thank you. So it’s had a replacement rear door but all other panels are original and the rest of the paint is original (except the crossmember and rear door)? On the photos of the service documents, photo 63 says that at approx 66,000 miles there is mention of ECU related issue / investigation, can you give any more detail on this please? Thanks.
15/12/2015 ECU was replaced no further problems. The car was given a major health check, service and updates.
On wing was replaced by Landrover in 2010 after being damaged.
Have any parts been resprayed? Have there been any more issues after the new ECU? Thanks.
I know you have a recent MOT but the spring supports look very corroded. Do you think they will need replacing soon with a new spring kit? Thanks
It was not highlighted to me so I can’t t really comment.
I know you have recently had and MOT but the spring supports look very corroded. Do you think they will need replacing soon with a new spring kit? Thanks

Hi – Are there any seat belt in the back?
Thanks Nick
No, bench seats
No none in the back
Bench seats can have seat belts hence the question
so if not then its a 2 seater?
I did not mean it that way, yes I would describe it as two seater.
