Introduction
Glyn Parry
With the P38 values considerably lower than they were, it comes as no surprise that the prices are on the up for well cared for examples.
Launched in 1994, 24 years after the previous model was released. The launch came just after the takeover from BMW who had nothing to do with the development of the P38, but they took a keen interest in it. The next generation Range Rover offered more equipment, luxurious trim and was there to put their mark at the top of the SUV market.
No longer just a 4 x 4, it was Wolfgang Reitzle, the man in charge of Land Rover, that saw the potential in making the expensive luxury SUV with various bespoke features such as full leather interior, with different wood trim options and, for the first time and quite mind blowing at the time, TV screens in the headrests connected to a VHS video recorder (remember those). A TV video package would come in at an eye watering £9.500 option, the total price would be in the region of £58,000 for a fully loaded Range Rover. Definitely the top of the SUV market.
This particular example is in excellent condition, it’s been enthusiast owned which is always an added bonus when it comes to keeping the large history file in check. The original bill of sale is present and includes extras such as wood enhancement kit and steering wheel, wheel arch protectors and detachable tow bar etc. The icing on the cake is the colour option which is the stunning Alvaston red.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Paul the father-in-law of the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi Thats a nice looking Range Rover which is well pictured and described, I have studied the description and have a few of questions
1. It looks from the history that there was a Wheel vibration issue a while back was this completely solved.
2. I see from the pictures that the sat nav screen has a small breakdown are the dashboard displays complete and working.
3. The headlining looks to be in good condition, do you think the two marks will clean or are they a trick of photography. And does the sunroof work ok.
4. have you found the engine to be reliable with no starting issues hot or cold and does it burn any oil.
5. Is the Aircon working ok.
Thankyou
Simon

Hi Simon,
Thanks for your enquiry!
“That’s a nice looking Range Rover which is well pictured and described, I have studied the description and have a few of questions”
– This example was carefully sought by my son-in-law Sam: following a L-R SIII 88”; Stage 1 V8 and Classic Range Rover 300 tdi.
In fact Sam works for Land-Rover and managed the build of the new Land-Rover Classic facility at Ryton. [Previous owner restored E-types. etc.]
Right now it’s for sale with me – due to a house move and company car.
“1. It looks from the history that there was a Wheel vibration issue a while back was this completely solved.”
– Wheel vibration is completely solved: through replacement of front hubs and also brand new road wheel (rear offside).
“2. I see from the pictures that the Sat Nav screen has a small breakdown are the dashboard displays complete and working.”
– Yes – Sat Nav screen has a small ‘patch’ by the ‘Menu’: all other displays are fine.
“3. The headlining looks to be in good condition, do you think the two marks will clean or are they a trick of photography. And does the sunroof work ok.”
– Headlining is good, and tight: but when photographing the boot area consigner Glenn looked up and noticed a couple of faint smudges, that missed final detailing! But they seem to have sponged out Ok!
– Like the air suspension the sun roof moves both ways: that’s in (wide open) – and out (tilt)
“4. have you found the engine to be reliable with no starting issues hot or cold and does it burn any oil.”
– Engine doesn’t burn oil.
– Starting is brisk when battery is fully charged [we leave on a solar charger]; if used infrequently we disconnect the RF receiver to prevent battery drain (known issue) and unlock on the key.
“5. Is the Aircon working ok.”
– Aircon working fine.
It may be possible to pick the vehicle up from Sam
( M6 J2 Coventry ) rather than me: I’m about 45 miles East near Santa Pod – where some of the picture were taken {also Hinwick House and Castle Ashby].
Thanks, Paul
Thanks Paul I have registered to bid and would be coming from Devon if successful I started out with a series 111 followed by a LTD Edition Tomb Raider Defender which I have just sold on after 10years ownership
Thanks Simon
OK Simon,
Understood: meanwhile wishing you all the best in your bidding!
It’s a great well-sorted useable low mileage example – original bill of sale + solid service history…
Regards, Paul
