Pushing the boundaries of a 4x4 - Land Rover produced a 2.5 tonne luxury off roader, capable of 0-60mph in 11.9 seconds.

Land Rover gave us the Range Rover Sport in 2005. Designed as a midsize SUV, the 4x4 comes in a touch smaller than a full size Range Rover. This shouldn’t put you off though, thinking you are getting less of a Range Rover. The interior was given modern options for the dash inlays such as carbon, aluminium and the classic look of wood. The seats are comfortable soft leather which immediately spells out luxury.

Plenty of electronics are to hand, with the new Sport offering extras like DVD mounted screens in the headrests and a digital instrument cluster. Then there's the more technical side of things, such as the standard fit adaptive air suspension. Let’s be honest though, the main reason people love the Range Rover Sport is for the looks. Slightly lower to the ground it makes it look agile.

All this comfort, looks and performance is what attracted the current owner to buying this 2008 Range Rover Sport. After 13 years of ownership and not too much use in recent years, the Sport is looking for a new home.

Meet the owner

I always loved the Range Rover. When I saw this Sport, it ticked all the boxes for what I was looking for.

Abdul purchased this 2008 Range Rover Sport S in 2011, after being on the lookout for something that had road presence, power and luxury. As a fan of Range Rovers in general, when he saw this Sport, he knew it was the one for him.

Having covered approximately 45,000 miles in the Range Rover since 2011, Abdul has been using the car less in the past couple of years, which has brought on the reason for parting with his luxury 4x4.

Tall, wide and great road presence, the Range Rover Sport S.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 20" wheels, they suit the stance on this sports Range Rover. The wheels on the vehicle are in need of refurbishment after having seen use in and around town, they all have some kerb damage to them. The tyres have recently passed the MOT, but they are quite worn and will likely need to be replaced soon.

Bodywork

Walking around the 4x4, all of the panel gaps look to be uniform around all of the doors, bonnet and boot, and there weren't any annoying dinks or dents to be seen. The Range Rover looks to be a very solid and straight vehicle. There is just one small rust spot at the bottom of the passenger wing and a small scuff on the near side rear corner of the bumper.

Paint

Finished in the Land Rover colour of "Java Black", it's a colour that really suits the car paired with the contrasting silver trim. In terms of the condition of the paint, it looks even in colour and finish across the vast bodywork. The car has a small number of stone chips considering the age and mileage. Being black has meant that the swirl marks are quite noticeable, but with that said, there are plenty of detailers who would enjoy restoring the paintwork to a lovely glossy finish.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition, with no noticeable scratches which we could see. The rear half of the Range Rover has been tinted which is all in good condition.

Up front, the headlights are nice and bright with no chips to the lenses, and the same can be said for the rear lights. Chrome caps finish the door mirrors, and these do have some slight pitting/signs of age to them.

Trimmed in the finest Nappa leather - the Range Rover certainly is a nice place to be.

Seats and Carpets

The electric leather seats are working as they should and are in a very nice condition to the front and rear. We haven't noticed any obvious signs of excessive wear to them. The carpet throughout is again in good order, with no excessive wear to be seen. There are a set of mats to the front and rear to protect the carpets.

Into the boot area, this is in the same condition as the rest. Under the boot floor lies the spare wheel and tool kit. The roll out parcel shelf does have a piece broken to the right, meaning that it won’t hold in place and retracts itself. This should be an easy fix as it's just a small piece of plastic that’s broken.

Dashboard

The dash looks to be free from any scuffs or damage. The instruments light up as they should with no warning lights displayed. The odometer shows a reading of ~79,646 miles.

There is a CD player in the front and also a CD multi-changer mounted in the boot floor. The buttons in the centre console appear to be in excellent condition with no real wear to point out.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The multifunction steering wheel is in good order, with just some slight smoothing of the grain to the outer edge.

The automatic gear selector has just a few light scratches as you often see on polished metal trim, more than likely caused by a ring.

Mechanics

A 2.7L turbocharged V6 lies in the engine bay, producing ~188BHP and 324 ft-lb of torque.

Engine and Gearbox

Sitting at just ~79,646, the Range Rover has low miles for the age of the vehicle. Flick the key and the 2.7 litre starts up and sounds just as you would expect. We haven't noticed any signs of any oil leaks when looking under the vehicle.

The car is reported to pull well through the automatic gearbox and the change is reported to be smooth, with no noises coming from the transmission side of things.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension on the Range Rover is working as it should, Abdul reports, and the 4x4 sat nice and level on our visit. In 2015, the rear bushes were replaced with a poly-bush kit.

Bringing the Range Rover to a halt nice and safely, the brakes are reported to be working as they should, with no juddering coming through the pedal, and it stops in a straight line.

The Drive

The perfect 4x4? Enough room for the whole family and even the dog. The Range Rover Sport can be used off-road, but is definitely more suited to on-road with it’s big road presence and luxurious leather interior. It certainly makes a statement wherever it goes.

Electrics and Other

Abdul reported that everything is working just as it should. To keep the kids happy, or even the adults if you are a back seat passenger, are the headrest DVD monitors, which come with headphones and remote controls.

History and Paperwork

With just 2 previous keepers and only ~79,646 on the clock, this Range Rover Sport is just about run in.

There are a few old MOT certificates present and some receipts for work carried out. Abdul explains that there was more paperwork but unfortunately it was lost when he was having a clear out.

The V5 is present and shows just 2 previous keepers. The owner's handbook and service book have been retained with the car. On the 15th September 2021 there was a fresh MOT carried out on the Range Rover Sport.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and the vehicle is HPI clear.

Interested in your car but noticed some rust spots around wing an under the car,,
Are there any structural problems/rust areas to worry about?
Also does the suspension work as intended??
