Introduction
A naturally aspirated V8 up front and Larini sports cats at the rear – this 4200 truly sings.
Maserati introduced the 4200 in 2001 at the Frankfurt Auto Show in Spyder form, with the coupé variant making its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in 2002. Replacing the 3200GT, it shared a very similar design with the outgoing model, with the taillights being one of the main visual changes. As the name suggests, the engine was upgraded from a 3.2L to a 4.2L. The new engine was a joint development between Maserati and Ferrari, producing ~385BHP and 332 lb-ft of torque.
This particular car comes to market after ~13 years with its current owner, with approximately 89,698 miles on the clock. Larini sports cats and a custom X-pipe have been fitted to enhance the already impressive sound. It has 15 service stamps in the book, two sets of keys and alarm master, and a current MOT valid until 20 June 2025.

Looking at passed MOTs the rear shock is leaking oil has this been changed ? It is noted as an advisory but for the last few years ?
Front tyres are cracked and close to legal limit, can this car be driven away or will they need replacing ?
Regards
Hi,
Regarding the rear shock, it has not been changed. I was previously advised it was not necessary as there was no real issue in 2022 by the garage that serviced the car for it’s time with me. No advisory in 2023 and this year again I was advised that there was no problem with the offside shock that required replacement. i.e. the mechanic is not convinced there is any issue. So I have not replaced it.
After the MOT I took the car to a local tyre shop and they advised that there was “probably” a few thousand miles in the front tyres. So while they will likely need to be replaced in the near term, I think the car is currently perfectly safe to drive.
Hi, has the car been garaged in its time in Glasgow / 4 years 4500 miles or km’s ? Regards
Hi,
The car has been largely kept on the street during the Spring and Summer and then put in storage for Autumn and Winter. It spent most of the Covid years in storage. The car would then be serviced on exiting storage. That’s part of the reason for selling, the owner of the car storage and servicing company (PK Supercars) retired this year! The other reason being I have little opportunity to drive it these days.
Hi Kenneth, I am only 20 minutes away and have been looking for a 4200. Can I call round for a viewing? Many thanks. Cliff
Hi Sure, that won’t be a problem! Please arrange through Trade Classics though as don’t think there is a way to contact directly through here.
Thanks Kenneth, I will send them a message. Although it looks like you are on*********? I can call round tomorrow morning if that works?
Thanks oooo I’ve sent you an email with next steps to get a viewing booked in.
