Introduction

Adam Purrier
Chief Petrolhead

This 2010 Sport Quattroporte GTS was the final and most sought after version - Maserati’s swansong to a bygone era; natural aspiration at its finest.

This is a very rare and special example, with only 53 registered in the UK. The MKV (M139) has the legendary and naturally aspirated Ferrari 4.7 V8 engine that effortlessly delivers 444 bhp and a 180 mph top speed.

This particular example has been well maintained over the years, fitted with the desirable bullet proof ZF 6-speed auto gearbox, it comes with full service history from both Ferrari / Maserati dealers and renowned 'F/M' independent specialists.

With just over 38,000 miles on the odometer, this car comes freshly serviced (6th bi-annual full-service including spark plugs) for the next custodian to enjoy.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Grant, the owner, having photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Yes I will miss it like hell, but a RHD isn’t practical for my new life in Spain sadly. At least I have ticked that box of owning a very special Maserati.

We don't think any other client of ours has treated their car as well as Grant has before sale. In fact, he contacted us in the office earlier in the week saying he'd just spent £4,000 on not only the biannual 12,000 service, but for total peace of mind, he has also had all the spark plugs replaced, a full underbody corrosion treatment applied, and a completely new set of brake discs and pads all round.

Not many private sellers would go to such lengths, especially when you consider this bill alone is circa 13% of the car's value now. This will give you reassurance that this car is as good as you can get right now - the new owner really has nothing to worry about for many miles to come. As you know, we only consign the best cars we can find from genuine and verified sellers - Grant is all of the above.

Grant and his family call the car 'Mario' and you know when a car has a name then it really is part of the family, and looked after as such too. The only reason why Grant is reluctantly selling the car is because he's moving permanently to Spain, and will need a left-hand-drive car out there.

We've got to know Grant more over the last few weeks, and we think that selling the car has been a bigger decision for Grant than the actual move to Spain itself!

Exterior

For many decades Pininfarina have designed the most beautiful cars in the world - this is up there being one of their GT masterpieces.

Wheels and Tyres

The GTS offered a lower ride height over the standard model with a 10mm wider tyre profile. Also, front Brembo iron / aluminium dual-cast brake rotors and red-painted six-piston calipers - these big deal changes add to the sporty ethos of Maserati’s flagship saloon.

20” Maserati alloys exclusive to the Quattroporte look to be in excellent condition - there are no significant signs of curbing or corrosion. The only thing to mention is the OSF has a couple of flakes of powder coat paint that has peeled on one of the spokes, and the NSR has a scratch on the outer rim. The other wheels are both in excellent condition. Grant did have these two wheels booked in to be refurbished on 29th September (see recent invoice) but the specialist was taken ill and self-isolating, hence leaving as is.
Grant has taken a video which shows them shining and in excellent condition overall (click link above).

The tyres are in also in excellent condition as a full set of Pirelli P-Zeros were added in 2020 less than 1,000 miles ago.

Bodywork

We are big fans of the designer, Ken Okuyama, and as you petrolheads will know, he was responsible for designing the beautiful Ferrari 599 GTB and Enzo, just to name a few. He was responsible for this car too, and we think he created a timeless design for Maserati's flagship saloon.

For those in the know, the MKV is the one to have, a rare car that is even made more special with unique grille and bumpers.

Upon inspecting the media, the shut lines across all the panels are tight and even as you'd expect, and we are assured by Grant that there are no parking dents across the car.

Paint

Set in Grigio Granito and oozing class from every pore - we love the totally understated look of this car and think this colour is the one to have.

All paint is even in finish and colour across the car. There are some very small stone chips present that are in line with the age and mileage of the car. They can be seen in the photos and video, generally along the front bumper with some further chips along the side. This is normal on these cars due to the design - some owners choose to cover up, however, Grant has left this in original condition; the right decision.

Glass and Trim

All in excellent condition with no issues, please view the photos.

Interior

Simply sitting in this car is an event - quality leather with hints of veneer remind you this is a very special Italian thoroughbred.

Seats and Carpets

Coming with 12-way electrically adjustable seats (YES TWELVE WAY) and are all presented in excellent condition, as you would expect from such a fastidious owner.

The immaculate Cuoio leather seats look amazing and they are beaming with vibrancy and plumpness. Of course, the Maserati emblem is embossed proudly on the headrests.

All carpets are cleaned in preparation for sale.

Dashboard & Trim

In front of you is a 9,000 rpm rev counter and the 200 mph speedometer - the limits at which you can push this solid family saloon is close to mind-blowing.

All the dashboard looks in excellent condition from the dials and gauges through to the leather covering.

Grant reports the only blemish he can find was there when I brought it, which was a tear on the rear centre console (see photo) - this was coloured in to match the leather.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A touring focussed steering wheel with ergonomic buttons for voice activation, phone and media.

Both the steering wheel and veneer gear stick are in very good condition.

Mechanics

You can cruise at 100mph just ticking over at 3,000rpm from the pedigree 4.7 Ferrari V8 under the bonnet - it's a never to be repeated Maserati / Ferrari lovechild.

Engine and Gearbox

The naturally aspirated 4.7 V8 engine from the Ferrari F430 is a unit that will never be made again, already part of a bygone era with the hybrid / electric future upon us.

Just look at the photos to see how stunning it looks and impeccably well maintained. As we know, regular servicing is key on these engines and Grant has just had that important biannual service completed by a Maserati specialist.

The coolant tank was replaced during the most recent service in September 2020, also adding new spark plugs and filters in the process.

Grant tell us there are no issues with the engine and gearbox whatsoever.

Suspension and Brakes

Grant assures us that the car handles as you'd expect for a Maserati of this calibre, and stops just as it should do too.

The car has vented and cross-drilled discs with ABS & EBD that also look as good as new.

With the car having been regularly serviced at Ferrari / Maserati specialists throughout its life, the suspension and brakes have always been tended to when needed e.g. brake fluid and safety checks.

The underside of the car looks free from rust and corrosion and has just that recent corrosion treatment applied.

The most recent service in September 2020 saw all new discs and brakes installed - to give total peace of mind for the new owner.

The Drive

Don't be fooled by the cosseting and luxurious Italian interior, this Maserati MKV with a Ferrari heartbeat is every bit driver-focused and designed to be driven.

Grant assures us the car drives beautifully and fault-free.

Electrics and Other

This car was an eye-watering £116,000 when new ,and included in that price was the optional Bose surround system and electronic privacy blind.

All lights, buttons and modes are working correctly on the car with no issues reported.

History and Paperwork

Grant has gone over and above preparing this car for the new owner - of course he doesn't know you (yet), but he's already treated you like a family member.

This is a smart buy - this is the car you should consider over any dealer example.

Why? Well dealers will give you that nice polished experience with talk of warranties whilst you nosh a 'free' cappuccino, however, as we in the know, know, most warranties are for limited items of fault with low cost caps. So in most cases it's a false economy. The really smart buyer will do their research and judge a car by its condition / history and importantly the owner on how they've looked after it. When you find it then you'll also be rewarded with more money in your pocket too, and a car you know more history about.

We've done the hard work for you - if you've been lusting after the all-important MKV Ferrari engined Quattroporte then this is the car for you - bid with confidence.

As we mentioned earlier, Grant has recently had the car tended to by Sports Italia with all brake pads and discs replaced at the cost of £1,500 - a further £2,500 was spent on servicing and other good preventative spending, e.g. spark plugs. This ensures the new owner has the full 2 years / 12,000 miles before the next bi-annual service is due. Please note, Grant's private registration will not be included in the sale.

Hi. Lovely car. Perfect. Are you interested in an upward part ex? I have a 72 LHD Alfa Montreal that I’m due to list on Bring a Trailer. Very hard to get selected on this site. The car is valued a fair bit more than your guide price but I’d do a deal to get your QP. Let me know. D. Smith
