One of the best cruising machines of all time. This Mercedes-Benz is a fantastic affordable daily or weekend driver that has a beautifully smooth V8 engine. Established SL shop undertook works on the engine back in 2012 along with a complete refurbishment of the interior. The car has been subject to a respray in the past to a sumptuous Tahiti Blue.

Wil is looking to sell the car after spending around £1,500 in the past, further improving the car for the next owner and having commissioned a service in May 2020, and MOT with no advisories in July.

That's right, the car is getting on a bit now, but showing positive aspects through age. As Wil started the car early one morning (Cold Start Video), that's what he asked himself. After owning the car for a year with the hope of refurbishing further as a little project, circumstances have changed, meaning Wil is looking to sell on.

Exterior

A classic shape that we are all fond of seeing on the road, a truly timeless shape.

Wheels and Tyres

The colour-matching Mercedes plated wheels look in good condition with some minor scrapes where the lip meets the tyre. With new tyres all round recently, the Mercedes is ready to get some more miles in.

Bodywork

Many people regard the styling of this car as a timeless piece of design, hence their desirability today. The previous owner had a new soft top fitted that has no rips or tears, whilst the window attached is clear. Significant work took place when panels were refurbished by the SL shop.

As you can see across the car the panels have been well-cared for, showing no dents or bumps. Take a look at our videos and photos.

Paint

The R107 was resprayed in the past into the shining Tahiti Blue you see in the photos and videos. The original hardtop has also been resprayed to colour-match.

Overall, the paint looks even across the car. The usual spots wear rust tends to occur on these models has resulted in bubbling on the boot lid and offside rear light.

Glass and Trim

All looking great across the car. Under Wil's ownership, he has had new rubber added that has made the car watertight.

The chrome work by the boot lock has some scratching. The offside rear light also has a crack in it, something that can be easily remedied by the new owner.

Interior

During 2012, the whole interior was refurbished to maintain the originality for years to come.

Seats and Carpets

The blue vinyl seats match the exterior very nicely. Looking in very good condition, there are no rips or tears in the front seats. The success of the interior refurbishment is further displayed as Wil lifts up the replaced carpets, completely rust-free for that peace of mind.

Under previous ownership, the rear seats were removed.

Dashboard

The dials and gauges look clean and tidy. Wil mentions to us that the speedometer was changed when the dashboard unit was replaced. The clock comes with the par of the sale.

He has handwritten notes calculating the true mileage (~110,000 miles) of the car in the paperwork section.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Having been professionally cleaned by the SL shop in 2012, on top of the great care the car has had since, both pieces, including the centre console, are in excellent condition.

Mechanics

The SL shop did wonders in 2012 and maintains the condition to this day.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.5 V8 is so smooth and pulls nicely. Wil films a cold start video early one morning and starts the first time. The car has a 3-speed automatic gearbox. A complete engine overhaul was commissioned in 2012 that involved many parts to be replaced, including parts of the gearbox and a new exhaust system.

In May 2020 the car had an engine and gearbox service, ready for the new owner to drive and enjoy the car. Also, WGM replaced worn engine rubber pipes.

Suspension and Brakes

Also in May 2020, Wil says works to the rear axle took place.

Wil assures us the car stops responsively and there are no knocks or rattles that occur when driving the R107.

The Drive

The car is famed for its comfortable drive in any situation. Highly versatile, these cars will keep going. Although the car is by no means slow, it is certainly steady, worthy of winning that kind of race.

Electrics and Other.

As mentioned, the speedometer was changed and can be seen in the paperwork when that took place.

Wil assures us that all electrics on the car work like the original key and locks, and the fact the car has been to the SL shop as late as 2012, this example may prove to be highly reliable for the next owner.

History and Paperwork

A reliable example that just needs a few small areas touched up.

The 350 SL V8 has had 10 former keepers before Wil. The car has amassed roughly 110,000 miles and is looking great. As well as Wil's V5 present, notes detailing the previous owner's attention to the vehicle are attached in the paperwork gallery. A full invoice from the SL Shop in 2012 describes the works done on the car during the significant engine overhaul, on top of various other areas.

Hpi clear, the speedometer has been changed with the original clock coming as part of the sale. The car passed its MOT with no advisories on 14.07.2020.

Hi I’ve owned the car for 14 months, the underneath of the car has been undersealed by a previous owner, there is a few small areas where the underseal has been scratched/flaked off NO corrosion or holes. This was a job to sorted Thanks Wil

Hi The corrected mileage is 111K the speedo was changed when the new dash and cover were fitted. MOT trail confirms. Original (faulty) speedo comes with the car. Any other Qs don’t hesitate to contact
