AUCTION CLOSED

This car didn’t meet its reserve price at auction, get it in touch with us directly to try and negotiate a deal on the car.

Beginning in 1968, Mercedes marketed this model range as ‘New Generation Models’ and it is easy to see why. This is a staple-mark design that paved the way for future saloons and coupes alike and looks absolutely beautiful in the beauty shots we took. This is a solid machine that is looking for a new home.

**We apologise that our photos were taken in some poor whether, however we have been able to take some better videos as the weather progressed a week on**

If you have any questions you’d like to ask William (the owner) then please click here to send him a message – William will get back to you asap.

TRANSPORTATION

7 out of 10 people that buy cars via our service don’t feel the need to visit the vehicles – instead they trust our service, due to the transparency and thoroughness of our listings and we then help arrange transportation too, delivering anywhere in the UK or mainland Europe – please see happy customers in our reviews that we’ve helped.

Recent Buyer Review – Simon Welsh on 1st May “Found my ideal 90’s sports car on Trade Classics. Living in Bournemouth and the car being in the Midlands I relied heavily on the advert, photos and videos.

On picking the car up I wasn’t disappointed. Everything was as it had been described. So I got straight into it and drove home. What a drive put a smile on my face.

Thanks very much Trade Classics and I’m now looking out for my next classic to add to the collection.”.

THE CAR & WILLIAM

William has a passion and love for classic Mercedes automobiles. In our ‘Meet the Owner’ video he describes himself as someone who likes to stand out and with this car, there is no exception. William is currently looking to sell two of his beloved Mercedes – this beautiful 280 CE and a 280 SL – in order to gain funds to buy his ideal model, the SLC.

This ‘Meet the Owner’ video is covering the two cars that William is aiming to sell with us so please ignore all technical dialogue in this video as it is for the other we have listed.

We thoroughly enjoyed talking to William about this beautiful car. Please see all of the media we have gathered from our visit to fully appreciate the machine.

EXTERIOR

We really like the green colour on this Mercedes, we know the trendiest of them all can see themselves driving this through their local area. Please take a look at all the stunning photos provided of this vehicle, it really blends into the Hammersmith area. The overall exterior is in good condition for a car that age, but we think with some TLC, this can really see the sunshine again.

Wheels & Tyres
The original wheels give the car character with slight parts of rust where it is to be expected. The tyre’s tread are in good condition, please see the photos.

Bodywork
The overall condition of the bodywork is good as can be seen in the images and videos – this is due to its recent restoration and you can see a few pictures in the media file of the work.

Paint
The paintwork is in good condition across the car, we noticed a small paint run on the lip of the bonnet. Please inspect all the photos diligently to gain a full perspective of the condition of the exterior.

Glass and Trim
Both are in excellent condition across the car. There are chrome strips around the car that seem to be in good condition upon inspection and are fitted well.

INTERIOR

The interior is still original and really takes you back to that 70’s feeling. We particularly like the original steering wheel and gear stick. The green interior is eye-catching and with the exterior, your attention gauge will increase.

Seats and Carpets
These seats seem to be in good condition with the front seats being more worn than the rear seats. Please see the photos to examine the degradation of the carpets. There have been repairs to the boot interior also.

Dashboard
The dashboard is in good condition still and just needs a good clean upon purchase of the vehicle. The stereo is not original and does not work. The glovebox handle catch is broken as well as being worn in edges.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
Both are in good condition with no issues. Both are still original.

MECHANICS

Please watch our ‘On the Road’ video as William takes us around the Hammersmith area. The engine generally sounded and felt, really good. All of us at Trade Classics were impressed with the overall functionality of the vehicle. A really pleasant experience.

Engine and Gearbox
The car started first go from cold – (see the on the road video). The engine soon settled into a smooth tick over. William revved the engine showing no signs of blue smoke either. It is important to note that there is a leak from the exhaust manifold, it can be heard in the video, but not visible.

Suspension and Brakes
There were no knocks or rattles on the drive out. The vehicle performs how you would expect them to and as our consigner states, the brakes “slow you down beautifully”.

The Drive
We took a typical drive around London – as you would expect we were not able to put our foot down so much, however, you can hear and see that there are no flaws when driving the vehicle.

Electrics and Other
As mentioned previously, the stereo does not work – this will need to be inspected – as this could be down to the wiring or some other factor. William assures us the lights work fine and no major problems seem to be there with the electrics.

HISTORY

This car has been in the ownership of William and his wife since November 2017.

Unfortunately the paperwork has been lost from the previous owners of the vehicle. There is a V5 from the purchase of the vehicle by William.

HPi Check Results
– HPi clear – a new HPi check will be actioned and supplied by us.

OUR SUMMARY

If you’re a driver who is confident in their own style, it’s the car for you. This car looks great in our photos, so why not own it, and take a few snaps yourself. This is truly a classic car that anyone who loves green will fall in love with.

William has priced this car very competitively as he knows the market and is hungry to buy that SLC he has always wanted.
