The Mercedes R107 is a beautiful looking car and has matured nicely over the last couple of decades – they are superbly built and deserve the title of ‘over-engineered’. It’s surprising what you can get for your money as they have always been great value when compared to other classics of similar eras/build quality. This is a car you can pull up anywhere in and get admiring glances.

This example is absolutely stunning in Sahara Gold metallic and comes with its factory hardtop too and the big 4.5L V8 with bags of torque; arguably you couldn’t find a better combination.

I couldn't believe I had won such a beautiful car, it's just gorgeous and feel lucky to have now have owned one.

As mentioned, Terence won this car in a competition recently. He'd always wanted to own an SL and couldn't believe his luck. Recently he's been enjoying the car on the fair weather days we've had, taking the car on trips down to Kent and the South East coast.

A house move is now on the cards, and as a result storing the car won't be practical any longer, hence the reason for sale. He will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the car in the comments below.

EXTERIOR VIDEO

Exterior

A timeless exterior - it's really difficult to find fault with the quality of this exterior.

Wheels and Tyres

The original alloys are in really good condition as you can see in the images and videos.

The 205/70/14 tyres look in good usable condition, however, we can't see a stamp date on the wall - so for peace of mind it may be prudent to change in the near future.

Bodywork

Well what can we say - the body is exceptional on this example.

Please study all the images and videos to see just how good this bodywork really is.

Being really picky we did notice just a small chip near the fuel filler and a couple of stone chips on the front.

The underside looks in good condition and has of course been treated to a rust preventative coating.

Paint

Just as good as the bodywork - the paint is in excellent condition. It looks even in both finish and texture across the car and looks beautiful in the period gold colour that makes the car so distinctive.

Glass and Trim

The glass and trim also look great across the car.

The fabric hood has a couple of small tears either side at the base - most likely due to being in the stored position. We think it may be possible to repair these without replacing the whole hood, as that is in really excellent condition. Also, as they are at the base then it's unlikely they won't cause any issues and maybe more cosmetic.

Interior

Mercedes got it right with this car - what a wonderful place to sit as you see countries pass you buy.

Seats and Carpets

Both are in excellent condition as you can see from the images. The MB Tex is really hard wearing and almost looks as good today as it was back in the '80s.

Dashboard

Again, no issues with the dashboard and Terence assures us everything is working as expected.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both original fitment and look in great condition.

Mechanics

Engine and Gearbox

This car has the 4.5-litre V8 that was fitted to the 450s right up to 1980 - this car's year. The engine fired up and sounded great as you can see and hear in the On-the-Road video.

Suspension and Brakes

No issues to note here - Terence assures us the drive is exactly what you'd expect with the suspension and braking system working well.

The Drive

Of course we can't go out on our usual on-the-road video, however, we did see the car start and move around the courtyard with no issues. Terence says the cars is lovely to drive with it being very smooth and quiet.

Electrics and Other

The car recently passed an MOT to confirm its roadworthiness.
