The flagship S-Class Extended Coupe born in Stuttgart, fitted with a 4.2L V8, suitable to cruise along the German Autobahns with ease.

The two-door coupe of the W126 S-Class was first introduced in 1981, which was later refreshed in 1985, making it more aerodynamic and with greater fuel economy too. The styling of the 420 SEC is instantly recognisable as a Mercedes-Benz, especially with the iconic Gullydeckelfelge wheels. With only ~3,680 420 SECs ever built, this is becoming a collectors piece.

This particular car is coming to market from ~19 year ownership, with just 6 former keepers registered. In 2020 it had some significant work actioned to the body and brake line, as well as service/tuning, at a cost of ~£13,000. As well as restorative work, the focus was on ensuring this Mercedes-Benz coupe is good for another 15-20 years. I've loved this car, it's got that modern classic design and style, and Mercedes-Benz build quality.

Peter has owned this particular car since 2003 and it has been stored in his garage when not driven, the luxurious drive and comfort it provides being some of the things he loves about it. He has also spent a lot of money restoring the car in the last couple of years, please see the receipts in the paperwork section below.

Peter loves the fact that when you open the windows and sunroof it feels like a convertible due to the pillar-less design. With the car getting less and less use, Peter feels it is time for a new owner to enjoy it. He will happily answer any questions on the car in the comments below.

A classic Mercedes-Benz design, the 420 SEC certainly has some road presence, especially the pillar-less design with windows down.

Wheels and Tyres

When thinking of a Mercedes-Benz of this era you immediately think of these wheels, 15" factory fitted items, a smart choice. They presented in great condition with no visible signs of corrosion, likely restored at some point in the recent past.

A matching set of Dunlop tyres were fitted and look to have plenty of life left in them. Please have a look at the photos below to check the condition.

Bodywork

The overall condition of the bodywork is great, we couldn't see any visible signs of rust, all panels line up well, this is not surprising given the work that was actioned in 2020.

Paint

Finished in the Mercedes-Benz colour of "Diamond Blue Metallic" (355 H), it's a great colour for this coupe. The condition of the paint is good, it has an even coverage across the entire car, again as you'd expect with the work actioned in 2020. We love the two tone exterior styling that these Mercedes-Benz have, it went out of fashion at one point but now is often sought after.

We did notice a few stone chips on the front bumper. Please take a look at the photos and video below to check the paintwork for yourself.

Glass and Trim

The Glass on this car is in good condition, we couldn't see any issues such as stone chips or cracks on the windscreen, all seals looked in good condition too. All chrome trim looked great too, still looking very shiny.

Interior

Big plush leather seats with wooden inlays on the dash give a feeling of elegance in the 420 SEC.

Seats and Carpets

The leather of the seats is in good condition for a car of its age, with signs of use more in the drivers seat as you would expect given the mileage, but importantly we didn't notice any rips or tears in the seats.

The carpets were in ok condition, we noticed a couple of stains in the rear footwell. Have a look at the photos and video to check the condition of the seats and carpet for yourself.

Dashboard

All the dials appeared to be in good working order with no warning lights showing. The dashboard is trimmed nicely with wooden panels, we did notice the stereo head unit was missing however, Peter may still have it.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather steering wheel looked in ok condition showing slight signs of wear with a couple of scratch marks on the bottom right hand side of the wheel. The gear stick looked in great condition, being automatic it doesn't get used as much as a manual would, so only slight wear on it.

Mechanics

Under the long aluminium bonnet lives an equally large engine; a 4.2L V8 with ~221BHP.

Engine and Gearbox

Peter assures us that the car drives nicely with no unexpected noises or vibrations. He recently completed a trip of over 100 miles with no problems. The engine was smooth and quiet when we took a drive along with Peter, with smooth gear changes from the automatic box.

Suspension and Brakes

We witnessed the suspension gliding over bumps, no knocking noises or any other strange noises were observed, what you'd expect given the car had a suspension overhaul as part of the work including new shocks all around. The car Peter assured us that the brakes are in good condition too. He also told us a lot of the brake components had been given an overhaul recently with receipts showing this below.

The Drive

As above we took a seat with Peter as he took the car for a drive, the car felt good, a very smooth drive with no unwanted noises. The 420 SEC give a very refined driving experience with comfort at its core.

Electrics and Other

The S-Class has always been the pioneer of new technology, everything in the cabin is controlled electrically, including the seats. We witnessed the windows and sunroof working, Peter told us that everything else was still in working order.

Coming to market from ~19 year ownership, in 2020 this car had ~£13,000 spent on restoration, presented in a popular colour of Diamond Blue Metallic, this pillar-less coupe is ready for a new owner to enjoy.

This 420 SEC is a stunning example in great condition, it oozes luxury and style. The car has extensive history, including the factory card which usually doesn't leave the factory. Having owned the car since 2003, Peter has ensure the car can live on for another 15-20 years, with all work documented. Peter is selling as he doesn't use the car as often as he'd like, he would like someone to get the same joy he has had from owning such a special car.

in Oil Industry & Vehicle Garaged with minimal use. I put Vehicle back to them 2020 for a complete Mechanical, Bodywork Refurbishment. 6 Coats Paint with Lacquer finish as per MB Spec. Vehicle Underside Wax Coated.

They also carried out Full Refurbishment 2020 & know the Car. Please see their Website. In Documentation Section there is Letter from David Reed Quoting Value £23,000 / £26,000 2020.

Also in documentation there is a Mercedes Benz Stuttgart Factory Works Card with MB Codes 1990.
This is Very Rare to have. MB Stuttgart Stamped Plates in Engine Bay.

Vehicle Garaged during my ownership. You will not find a better example of a MB 420 SEC. Only 3,660 built & now becoming a rare sought after vehicle.
