Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
Unstoppable off-road performance - this military vehicle of choice is packed full of luxurious touches, providing the perfect blend of luxury and usability.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon (aka G-Class) is a 4x4 "terrain vehicle", originally developed as a military off-roader in Austria. The car is characterised by its boxy good looking styling and body-on-frame construction; it uses three fully locking differentials which makes it rather unique, yet highly capable.
The G-Class is one of the companies longest-produced vehicles with a span of 42 years. This example is the first generation of the G-Class known as W460 ('79-'92), there were three engine options and five body variants with this particular example packing the most powerful 3.0L OM 617 inline-5 diesel.
Michael is a big 4x4 fan and classic car collector - this G-Wagen really caught his eye as he couldn't pass up the chance of owning it and since has given the car a fresh coat of vibrant red paint, and treated it to a lot of tlc.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Michael the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Good morning Michael, Have you had any work done on the car in the last year please? Does it have a viable mot, when does it expire?
Greg Hickman.
Yes it’s got a valid MOT 11 months remaining Its just had a full service so it’s ready to go
Hi Michael. The photos/ videos seem to miss the significant bits! Can you advise if there is evidence of active or past water ingress in the front footwells (normally from front window surround or wiper spindles). Could the gremlins be from water damage to the 2 ecus that are on nearside? Sunroof: are the drains clear/ is there any evidence of the headlining sagging? Chassis: rear spring and damper top mounts. Is it possible to have a photo/report of condition of these areas? Also front nearside sill/ arch area photos are not clear but there appears to be corrosion – are there any clearer pictures of this area? Trying to gauge if chassis needs body off to sort. P.s. this is a W463 with the OM603 unit.
Many thanks.
There is no water increase whatsoever or past water Intake in the vehicle it’s absolutely watertight Back shocks and mountings is absolutely fine all drains are clear roofling is fine there is some surface rust underneath what you would expect on a car even five-year-old but it’s very solid you’re more than welcome to come and view the vehicle And inspected it If you don’t think the videos and photographs is good enough my postcode is SN4 8ET upper Studley farm swindon please let me know if you want to come and view the Vehicle
Hi Michael (?) Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately it’s a good 8 hour round trip so an inspection in person is not feasible. Commissioning an engineers report to inspect three areas also feels a bit disproportionate. I do not wish to doubt your sincerity but, under the circumstances of the binding trade terms, if further photos etc. cannot be arranged then I’ll value accordingly based on the available info.
Regards.
Hi, Is this airconditioned?
Yes it has air condition
Yes it has air condition
The person I purchased it from had the re-spray done before putting it in storage and moving to South Africa it has some surface rust underneath as expected but it’s very solid there is no problems with the ABS whatsoever It drives spot-on when I purchased it the heated seats and window was working i’m guessing it’s a fuse as the radio wasn’t working and I changed some in the glove compartment and now it is but I couldn’t manage to find the fuse for the window and the heated seats everything everything else works fine The bodywork is in excellent condition as seen in the videos the car is totally original except from the paint job you are more than welcome to come and view the vehicle
Hello
Did you have the respray done? Was there much rust on the back corners?
There looks to be surface rust underneath, are you aware of any welding that’s been carried out under there?
How does it drive? Any faults? The video seems to show a sticker over where ABS light might be, is this the case? I’m not sure it’s fitted.
When you replace the fuses does the window and seat heaters work? Does the fuse blow again?
Sorry if the note appears negative,
Steven
