Introduction
Paul Wright
Because nothing says "I’ve made it" like a V8 convertible with more tech than most back in 1992.
What is the most thoroughly engineered convertible on the classic car scene today? Well, we think the R129 has got to be up there on that list. The SL500 is the flagship model, featuring the bulletproof M119 5.0L V8 engine - it had more power than some of the Ferraris on sale at the same time.
The 500 SL was also one of the safest cars ever built at the time too, equipped with its ‘Wunderbar’ (an automatic roll bar), which deploys within milliseconds if the car flips over. Even to this day, it’s considered an extremely safe sports car to own.
This 1992 500 SL is a stunning low-mileage example, carefully looked after by the same family for the past 18 years, it comes with tailored full car and hard top covers and a current MOT valid until 27.08.2025.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi Paul, hope all is well. Can you confirm if the bumpers/ lower side panels (lighter blue) have ever been resprayed? If so have they been spraying the correct finish, which is a matt/satin, rather than a gloss like the rest of the car on the upper half. Thanks
Hi, the rear bumper was resprayed a few years ago when I took the car back from my mother (she’d unfortunately picked up a couple of small scrapes on it which needed tidying up) but it was done in the correct matt satin finish as per the other lower panels which are all still original. I have to admit that I use carnuba wax on these (as well as on the full gloss dark blue paint) so they’re possibly a bit “shinier” than they started out originally, but I prefer to have the protection of a decent polish on them. Hope this helps. Cheers Paul
HI Paul, could you supply me with the VIN Number.
Why is there no MOT prior to 2005?
Hi, the VIN number is WDB1290662F 064679 (it’s actually shown on quite a few of the history docs in the photo folder) Re your MOT question, we bought the car in Nov 2006 with its Aug 2006 MOT and have kept all the paperwork since that time but don’t have the paper copies prior to that and unfortunately online digital records only started in 2005 so that’s as much MOT history as I can provide. Hope this is helpful? Best regards Paul
Many thanks
