Introduction

Blending timeless luxury, smooth performance, and legendary engineering into one iconic model.

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SE stands as a testament to classic Mercedes-Benz production, which has truly stood the test of time. Part of the iconic W140 lineup, the 300 SE combined performance, comfort, and, for its time, cutting-edge technology, along with the legendary engineering Mercedes-Benz is known for.

Widely regarded as being "over-engineered" during its prime, the 300 SE is a shining example of the craftsmanship and attention to detail that went into its creation. Today, it's easy to see why models like this were such a long-standing part of the company's production. With its 3.0 litre inline-six engine offering a perfect blend of power and efficiency, the 300 SE continues to represent great value for money, showcasing Mercedes-Benz's commitment to longevity, luxury, and quality.

A largely original example which comes to market from over ~32 years ownership, having been with the same keeper since new.

The car is also complete with its original Mercedes servicing book, Pioneer stereo and CD auto-changer, toolkit, and a current MOT valid until 28.07.2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Subhash the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

A car that has made me very proud to own, it's never let me down and I've loved every mile driven in it.

Subhash has owned the car since new, being the sole owner of the 300 SE since purchase - he tells us, "I have really enjoyed very minute of owning the Mercedes and it's been an honour to drive such a car".

With less time on his hands to drive and get full use of the Mercedes now, the current owner has decided it's time for a change. Subhash would ultimately like to sell this example to someone who would get more use from it, especially considering the car has been driven very few miles in recent years.

Should you have any questions about the car, Subhash would be happy to answer these in the comments section below.

Exterior

Elegant design with sleek lines, a bold grille, and chrome accents, embodying luxury and presence on the road.

Wheels and Tyres

The car comes with 15" "facelift" wheels. All appeared to be in good condition and we didn’t notice any major damage, just the occasional age-related marks here and there.

The front of the 300 SE is fitted with Goodyear Eagle NCT 5 tyres and Goodyear Excellence at the rear. Both sets of tyres show a spec of 205/65. All tyres appeared to be in good visual condition.

Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the exterior of the Mercedes and a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the Mercedes-Benz showed well overall. Looking over the exterior, the panel lines looking straight and well-aligned. Original build quality still shows through to this day as we looked over the car on our visit; all doors, bonnet and boot open and close without concern with the panels gaps all looking to line up well.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The coverage is nice and even across the car with no noted differences in colour. We did spot some marking across the panels with a few slight scratches to the bonnet and boot, and some wear to the door sill edges. The rear bumper section showed signs of lacquer peel which would benefit from being restored. Given the 300 SE has been on the road for over ~32 and a half years, these observations were in line with our expectations.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen, side windows, mirrors and lenses all appear in great condition and we could see no sign of scratching or chips on the glass. The seals look good around the car and in line with the rest of the condition.

We didn't note any issues on the rubber sections on the interior edges with the cabin sections showing very well.

Badges and emblems are present and correct.

Trim around the outside of the car shows well, although the rear mud-flaps were detached and would need to be affixed.

The chrome trim around the car would benefit from a clean over and polish up to bring back its former shine, but the finish was in keeping with the age.

Interior

Unmistakable Mercedes-Benz; class is everywhere on this 300 SE - comfy seating, inviting drive and a real sense of luxury.

Seats and Carpets

The front seats showed really well and looked more than presentable finished in cream leather. We noted some signs of wear to the drivers seat outer bolster, typical for the age of the car. Looking over the rear seating showed this area to be in excellent condition with only minor use noted on the back seats.

It was clear, looking over the interior, that the 300 SE has been well looked after during its ownership.

Carpets in the front of the cabin show in a respectable condition, although we noted a hole from wear on the drivers carpet. Overall, the carpets would benefit from some light cleaning to the front. The rear of the interior and the boot showed in a really great condition. Underneath the cabin carpets on the floor pans showed no concerning issues.

We've captured high-resolution photos and a full interior video tour through the car. This covers off the angles inside the car for you to review and appreciate the condition of what's on offer here in our interior review section.

Dashboard

The black dash and wood veneer panelling across the centre console all appears in fantastic shape with no issues to report. Black dials with orange needles looked excellent and were all functioning as expected. The odometer showed with ~77,319 miles at the time of our visit.

The dials, switches, and controls all appear to be in exceptional condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching. We noted no issues with any warning lights and the speedometer, fuel gauge, oil temp, rev counter and clock and were all functioning without concern when starting up the car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel shows signs of use but is in keeping with the quality of the rest of the interior. The Mercedes branded centre badge on the steering wheel shows itself well.

The auto gear selector also looks to be in great condition.

We've captured high-resolution photos for you to review and appreciate the condition of the interior in our gallery section.

Mechanics

Powerful and efficient, the 3.0L inline-six M104 engine offers a perfect balance of smooth performance.

Engine and Gearbox

Starting up from cold, we noted no concerns and the Mercedes performed without issue when running and out on the road. The car idled smoothly and its engine was easily capable of taking the driver up to speed in no time at all. The automatic gearbox showed no concerns with shifting the 300 SE through to the gears.

We took the car out around some local roads with the current owner to get a better feel for what this vehicle is all about. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting up and more detail in the engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs or issue from the suspension when we were on the road in the car, and it gave us no concerns in its performance or handling. Looking over the underside of the car during our visit, noted no concerns, again showing well here.

The brakes bring the car to a halt in a straight line with no juddering reported through the pedal, the stopping power and control felt great.

Please take a look over the mechanical videos and photographs to see close-up images from under the car.

The Drive

The Mercedes felt comfortable on our drive out, riding with no issues through our journey on the road. Steering felt great on the car with no shakes and there were seamless changes through the gears.

Overall, a really smooth and enjoyable ride.

Electrics and Other

During our time with the vehicle we noted that all switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and are in excellent condition. The 300 SE is complete with a toolkit, warning triangle and a spare wheel located in the boot.

The car also comes with a Pioneer stereo and a Pioneer multi-play CD auto changer. We tested the stereo, electric windows and sunroof out on our drive in the car which all operated without concern. Subhash told us everything was in working order, as far as he was aware.

History and Paperwork

This 300 SE has travelled under ~1,000 miles in the last ~10 years, with just 1 keeper registered from new.

Coming from its original owner of ~32 years, the 300 SE has 15 service stamps in its service book and a current MOT valid until 28.07.2025. We cover the history of the Mercedes in our paperwork gallery. Take a look over the previous servicing records and historic MOT certificates to see more behind the 300 SE.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
