With all the cars that Surjit has, this one hasn’t really had much use, and so the time comes to move it on to a new owner so that it gets the use it deserves.

Surjit is like us here at Trade Classics, a proper petrol head and can talk cars all day long; he has a wide make / model range of interest. However, he perhaps doesn’t like to hang onto his cars for as long as we do! For Surjit the thrill is in the research and the chase of a classic car, then running it for a year or two before finding a new owner.

This particular car he picked up when he was actually buying a Porsche from the same dealer. Spotting the car in the forecourt, he thought it looked lovely and ending up purchasing it.

Exterior

Finished in black with a matching black roof, the car is quite something to look at when the roof is down, the W124 body with the seats in the back – perfect for a summer cruise.

Wheels & Tyres

15” Mercedes wheels, wrapped in new rubber across the car. As stated previously, the car hasn’t been used much, Surjit has put a fresh set of tyres on the car; replacing the aged tyres.

The wheels themselves have some curbing on the outer rims – take a look at the video review for the detail.

Bodywork

The shut-lines and panel gaps on this car look good. Pretty much what you would expect from a W124 Mercedes.

In terms of the condition of the bodywork, it looked solid and we didn’t observe any visible rust during our viewing.

Underneath the car, there are signs of some very light surface rust. Watch the video review where we cover every body panel in detail.

Paint

Black metallic paint across the bodywork on this car. The paint is even in colour and finish across all the panels.

There is a bit of road-rash on the front as you may expect, and some small micro-blistering of the paint on the bonnet of the car that can be seen in the right light.

Glass and Trim

The glass on the car looks good, no delamination that you might expect with the rear window of the soft-top.

The rest of the trim on the car is showing its age – some parking nicks in the plastic bumper and it’s lost the deep black colour it would have had when it was new.

Black on black with some wood veneer thrown in for good measure – very W124.

Seats and Carpets

The car is finished in black leather together with black carpets with mix of leather and fabric trim. The interior reflects the age and mileage of the car – no severe damage but signs of wear on the bolsters etc. Please watch the video review to see the detail.

The black and wood veneer looks good, the dials looking sharp, and the various switch gear looking good too. Review the extensive images below.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The car is fitted with its original steering wheel and gear stick and along with the rest of the cabin they reflect the age and mileage of the car.

Mechanics

Surjit took us on a short drive in Warwickshire to show how the car performs, we kept the roof up for the drive so you could hear us.

Engine and Gearbox

The car started from cold without issue, and the engine and automatic gearbox pulled us through the local area with ease.

Suspension and Brakes

A very comfortable ride and we didn’t observe any knocks or rattles from a suspension perspective. However, one of the brakes is squeaking, you can observe this in the On the Road video.

The Drive

After a short cruise along the local area you can understand why people like the charm of the W124 cabriolets.

Electrics and Other

All the windows and importantly the electric roof work as they should do, you’ll see pictures of the roof fully closed and also fully open. Surjit informs us that all other electrics are working too, things like the front seat belt helpers, that extend out and hand you the seat belt when the car is first started.
