Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Over 2 million W124 models were made worldwide. Not as many are this special.

The AMG E36 Coupé derivative, on the other hand, is extremely rare with never-released production numbers. We met Donald who is looking to sell a car he has owned for 20 years as he now spends more time in Portugal.

As Donald took his car to Drayton Mercedes – right next to his place of work – for servicing of his slightly newer Mercedes, he saw the E36 standing proudly in the dealership window.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Donald the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

instantly, it was love at first sight and Donald couldn’t help himself but buy the car.

Watch the ‘Meet the Owner’ video as he talks proudly about his fondness of a car he has owned for 20 years.

Donald used the AMG as a daily driver for just over 10 years whilst owning an engineering company. As he is getting older and spending more time in sunny Portugal, he believes the time is right to sell the car so a new owner can get the miles it deserves with such a fun and casual driving experience.

Exterior

In a subtle manner, the car looks stunning. The new owner will be proud knowing they have such a rare example AMG – the badge says it all.

Wheels and Tyres

The tyres look well-kept with excellent condition tread. The Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres with a profile of 225/45/17 are complimented with those iconic looking AMG plated wheels.

Bodywork

As you would expect, the bodywork looks in excellent condition. As you review all the media you will find no dents or stone chips across the whole car.

Paint

The paint looks to be on very good condition upon our visit.

Glass and Trim

Both are in excellent condition across the car. The safety film in the rear window will need to be reviewed.

Interior

The interior is really beautiful – from what we can see it has kept all the original features from the factory. Set in black with the usual Mercedes wood trim, the inside looks sophisticated and comfortable on whatever journey you would like to take her.

Seats and Carpets

Both are in excellent condition of the car's mileage. The carpets were changed at the point when Donald purchased them, with the seats showing signs of use in line with the mileage.

Dashboard

The yellow gauges are looking really nice as they were the AMG colour applied to this pre-merger model. Above, you see no marks or signs of sun damage. As you go down to the wooden finished centre console you are blessed with elegance and electrical features.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both are in fair condition of the car’s mileage. The arm rest and steering wheel are showing use in line with the age of the car.

Mechanics

Please watch the ‘On the Road’ video as we go out on a drive with Donald to see the car performing and stopping. We also do our usual cold start video to provide some assurance on reliability with the car. This car is extremely rare and it was hard finding the technical specifications for it, however, the internet is so vast we found them.

Engine and Gearbox

The car has a straight-6 engine that could achieve a blinding acceleration of 0-62mph in 7 seconds – not bad for a ’90s 4-speed automatic. At the time, the car was capable of pulling 268hp @ 5750rpm. The car is rear-wheel-drive. The engine started first-go from cold as expected.

Suspension and Brakes

Please take a look at the suspension in the ‘Exterior Review’ video as there is some signs of light corrosion starting to take place on the front end. Donald takes us on some smooth roads at the start of the video, however, we see the car performing well on more narrow roads, towards the end. The brakes perform faultlessly with no squeaks and keeps the car straight.

The Drive

We see the car accelerating viciously on a straight that will get the blood pumping with any petrol head whilst leaving a wide smile on the face. We detected no issues on our drive out which is very good as the car has had limited miles over recent years.

Electrics and Other

All electrics worked as they should on our visit and Donald assures us that this is still the case.

History and Paperwork

This is an extremely rare car with unpublished production numbers.

The car had 2 former keepers previous to Donald and was sold to him through Drayton Mercedes in his local area that looked after the car before his purchase.

The car comes with the original owner's handbook and a service history that has been marked off at every mileage point so far. The car was SORN between 2014 & 2018.

Current indicated mileage is 114,910 miles on 12/03/2020.
