Replacing the Mercedes SL55 AMG, the SL63 AMG was the next step in Mercedes performance cars.

When the SL55 AMG was launched, new features such as the electric removable hardtop and active body control suspension transformed the SL, pushing technology to the maximum and making the Mercedes one of the most technologically advanced cars of its time. It was in 2008 that there was another change; this time, the engine was increased to the outstanding naturally aspirated 6.2 litre V8. Although the previous 5.5 litre supercharged engine is fantastic, you will soon understand just how good the 6.2 litre is as soon as you hear it.

This lovely low-mileage example comes fresh to market from the current owner Gavin, presented in classic Mercedes silver and having been consistently maintained and serviced throughout its life.

A brilliant car that I wish I had the time to enjoy properly, the noise of the V8 is second to none.

Gavin bought his SL63 with every intention of using the vehicle as a weekend car, however with work and family commitments at an all time high, he simply hasn't found himself driving the car as much as he had hoped.

Sweeping bodylines and a long front end make this V8 powered roadster into a sleek and provokingly designed sports car.

Wheels and Tyres

The multi-spoke alloy wheels look to be in good condition, with no visible significant damage to speak of. However the faces are beginning to suffer from typical white worm corrosion commonly found on this style of diamond cut wheel. Whilst not an urgent job, they will benefit from some attention in the future.

The tyres are Pirelli P Zero’s and have plenty of tread left as they are not far off being new, DOT marked for the start of this year.

Bodywork

The bodywork looks to be in good condition, free of any visible damage and with no misaligned panels or uneven panel gaps to speak of. We didn't notice any bumps or scrapes either.

Paint

The silver paintwork is in good condition, looking to be free of any scratches, scuffs, or other such defects. There are a handful of very minor stone chips on the front end, but beside these you will not find anything else of note on the paintwork.

The glass around the car is in great condition, free of any chips, scratches or cracks.

Likewise the various trim items around the car are in good condition too.

Designed with comfort in mind the SL63 provides a very pleasant cabin for both driver and passenger.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather upholstery is in fairly good condition, with the only detracting factor being some wear on the driver's side bolster.

The carpets are in good condition however, with no rips or tears, and no major discoloration either.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition, with no visible damage to speak of.

All switchgear is present, correct, and in fully working order too.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in good condition too, with no major damage visible to the wheel itself, and the leather is free of any damage or heavy wear too.

The steering wheel controls are in fully working order also.

Mechanics

0-60mph in 4.5 seconds and a top speed limited to 155mph, the 6.2 litre V8 AMG engine is a monster simply waiting to be unleashed.

Engine and Gearbox

During our ‘Cold start’ video you can see the car start from cold, without hesitation or issue, it idles as expected and revs nicely. Likewise during our ‘On The Road’ video you can see the car under performance, where it drives as expected and without issue.

The automatic gearbox performs as it should too, changing gears smoothly and quickly and without any lurching. The kickdown also works as expected, dropping gears to provide an uptick in acceleration on demand.

Suspension and Brakes

Out on the road, the SL63 handles brilliantly thanks to the ABC body control suspension system, and we didn't notice any knocks or bangs are coming from any corner of the car.

The AMG brakes bring the car to a halt as you would expect, in a straight line, with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

The SL63 AMG is at the top of the tree when it comes to looks, comfort, handling, performance and of course, the sound.

Luxurious leather seats hold you tightly, and the ABC suspension system takes care of any adjustments needed to cope with the road ahead. As you would imagine, the performance is superb from a 6.2 litre V8, but the sound is something else altogether.

Electrics and Other

We found all electrical systems work as expected on the day, including interior \ exterior lighting, as well as all interior switchgear.

it was serviced last year with 2 new batteries – 4 tyres and brake pads – they havent uploaded the invoice on here but can provide – total cost 9=£930
