Introduction

Kulraj Singh Salh
COO

The E63 AMG combines devastating performance with complete comfort and ability.

The 4th generation E-Class was a significant move for the brand, with a new chiseled look to appeal to younger customers. Traditionally seen as the archetypical Mercedes, there was nothing traditional about the new car when launched in 2009. Known as the W212, it retains the E-classes virtues of comfort and ride quality but it had something rather special to offer the keen driver too. By installing the hand-built 518 bhp 6.2-litre V8 (the same engine plan as used in the SLS AMG Black), Mercedes-Benz upped their game and brought the brand to the forefront of attention.

Considered the perfect AMG, this earlier E63 is often more sought after than the later twin-turbo versions, offering a more authentic AMG driving experience. Kitted out with all of the toys under the sun, the E63 is more nimble than it looks, already adding to its exhilarating chassis with the traditional virtues of its luxury car values. The E63 has significant upgrades over the standard E-Class models, with a wider front track, uprated suspension and unique body panels. The famed AMG Speedshift MCT transmission is the first seven-speed magnesium alloy automatic transmission in the world, which features the ability to skip gears when downshifting.

Meet the owner

Cars are a passion of mine, it's something my son and I like to dabble in together, the more exotic the better.

Martin and his son love a range of cars, old and new, but have a bit of a thing for super saloons like this. With the AMG hand built V8 power plant, a sharp exterior, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing for sure.

During Martin's ownership of Mercedes-Benz, he's covered little distance due to restrictions with travel in the pandemic. The has had a recent service with Mercedes-Benz main dealer in November 2020, and now is ready for a new home where it can be put to work.

Exterior

The E63 exudes solidity and confidence, these are seriously impressive cars.

Wheels and Tyres

All four alloys are in excellent condition, with the Pirelli P Zeros boasting decent thread. The front tyres have been recently replaced, and lots of tread on the rears too.

Bodywork

The body is straight, with no signs of accident damage, the door shuts are equal and there is no evidence of rust at all. There is the odd tiny parking door dent, most noticeably on the drivers side door but appears to be something a specialist could easily repair.

Paint

The overall paint coverage of the paint is excellent, finished in Obsidian Black Metal with the panels all showing the same tone and lustre. There are a few paint blemishes on the arches, the nearside front arch and the off-side rear arch have small areas of matted paint. The front bonnet leading edge and front left side of the bumper has small stone chips - consistent with motorway use. The right-hand side of the bumper and driver side wing mirror has evidence of a parking scrape. All these issues can easily be addressed by a paint specialist we think.

Glass and Trim

The glass is consistent with a Mercedes of this mileage, therefore in good condition with no major blemishes or scratches observed. The trim and brightwork are very good, with no issues.

Interior

With almost every conceivable interior gadget available to Mercedes-Benz, there cannot be many nicer places to be in.

Seats and Carpets

AMG sports seats finished in fine black leather, and black carpets throughout to match the exterior.

The overall presentation of the interior is excellent, with age-related wear consistent with the mileage of the car. The driver's seat has minor wear, with small signs of the loosening of the leather but certainly not significant. The carpets, both in the cabin and boot are good.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in excellent condition, with the smallest of age-related wear, what you'd expect for a car that's covered 75,000+ miles. The quality of the brand ensures that the materials are hard wearing and more resistant to damage than lesser marques. All the dials, controls and buttons are said to be fully operational.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel has minor signs of wear, consistent with the age and mileage of the car but again not significant enough to warrant replacement but something that could be remedied by a detailing specialist. The gear stick condition is consistent with the overall presentation and is in good order.

Mechanics

With power sourced from the same engine plan as the legendary SLS, the E63 AMG is capable of some astonishing feats of speed.

Engine and Gearbox

Pushing out over 500BHP, and producing a very sporty tone, the hand built V8 engine is the masterpiece to this car. The engine runs perfectly and burbles into life instantly. The visual condition is consistent with the use and mileage of the car. The gearbox is said to function perfectly.

Suspension and Brakes

The brake discs and pads show plenty of life in them, and there appears to be no evidence of uneven wear. The dampers and ride suggest that the suspension is in excellent condition.

The Drive

Mercedes have a knack of producing well mannered large saloons and the E63 certainly lives up to this reputation. The added sting in its tail offers supercar performance helping it to be one of the best value cars capable of some astonishing stats. However, it is also docile to drive around town and it's ergonomic considerations for passengers and the driver offers a huge dose of practicality too.

Electrics and Other

The E63 is a complicated car and fitting for a car that is the halo model for the E Class, there is a huge list of standard equipment that includes driver drowsiness, traffic sign recognition and active seats, which change shape to support the passengers in corners. Needless to say, all are functional and waiting to be tried out.

History and Paperwork

Black on black colourway suits this AMG super saloon, and what a sound it produces.

A UK RHD example, this car was previously owned by an executive at HR Owen before Martin purchased it. Finished in Obsidian Black Metal, with the tinted rear windows and black leather interior, it often can go under the radar. The car has recently been through a B service at a Mercedes-Benz main dealer, leaving it wanting for nothing and ready to be enjoyed.

Do you need the car taken away quickly? With current restrictions could be a while before I (or other non-London winner) could collect. Is that an issue? Thanks.

Hi again. The front bumper gaps seem from the fotos to be a bit off.In foto 72 you can see the locating pin for the bumper to wing gap(about 1 cm from the headlight). That isn’t correct, that gap is too wide which would indicate the bumper isnt fitting correctly? Perhaps you can explain?

Hi,
Lovely looking car.
Unless I’m missing something, it looks like the first service for this car was when it was 5 years old after 70,000 miles. Can you confirm the full service history dates and mileage please?
Thanks.
