Introduction

Alan Stuart
Professional Consigner

The perfect balance of performance, economy and luxury, a stalwart in the modern Mercedes-Benz lineup.

The (A207) Cabriolet is the fourth-generation E-Class, first unveiled in 2010. The model replaced the CLK-Class and is based on the W204 C-Class platform, however shares much more with the E-Class in terms of features and space. Mercedes produced an elegant and refined luxury four-seater convertible, with one of the most advanced acoustically tuned quick-folding fabric roofs of its time, with an advanced AirCap system which prevents buffeting at high speed when the roof is down.

The E200 CGI is powered by a turbocharged 1.8L which offers performance and economy. The E200 gives the driver 184BHP to tap into. With its five-speed auto box, and with a top speed of 143MPH, this car can move.

Anne purchased this car in 2015 from the Mercedes-Benz main dealer but has added little mileage. Due to a manufacturer recall, the car benefits from fresh paint having been completely resprayed in its original and vibrant Fire Opel paint, which pairs very well with its all-leather Almond Beige interior. With W124 cabriolets firmly in the classic camp, will we think the same about the W212 in the future?

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Anne the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

Nothing beats sitting inside the gorgeous Mercedes-Benz cabin with the roof down on a summer's day.

Anne was looking for a weekend car and stumbled across this Mercedes E200 back in 2015. It had a very good spec from the factory, and with only 1 previous owner and just over ~17,000 miles on the clock it fit the bill for what she was after.

She's loved taking the car out on the weekends and popping the roof down during the summer. With full-size rear seats, friends can comfortably cruise in the back. However, recently Anne isn't getting much use out of the car and have decided it would be better enjoyed by like-minded enthusiasts, hence the sale. Anne will be more than happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Exterior

Smooth elegantly styled bodywork, with the new Mercedes-Benz design language coming through on revised front end.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 17" alloys from factory, the overall condition of the wheels is great. The paint and lacquer on the wheels along with the centre caps all look very good, the only point to note is one small curb mark to the rear nearside wheel.

The front wheels are wrapped in General GT tyres, with the rear being Eurovis Sport 04's. The tyres look to have lots of tread and plenty of life left in them, dated 2018/20. Please take a look at the photos and videos for a detailed view of the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The panels on this E200 appear very straight throughout, with even panel gaps and a great fit across the whole car. We didn't observe any major areas of concern worth noting on our visit, just a very tiny scuff to the rear bumper.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

The car's paint began to show a little reaction to the A-Pillar in 2018 due to a manufacturer's fault, being under warranty the car was recalled to be completely resprayed. This took place in late 2018, which really benefits the car as seen in the photos. This E-Class certainly stands out on the road for all the right reasons.

Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good and in line with the age and mileage of the car.

The hood would benefit from a deep clean with convertible hood cleaner, importantly It has a good fit when fully closed.

Interior

Four full-size seats are offered in this luxurious convertible, coupled with all the driving amenities we've come to expect from modern a Mercedes.

Seats and Carpets

E-class seats draped in "Almond Beige" leather are fitted and fully-adjustable. The seats contrast well against the "Fire Opel" paintwork, and the cabin is lined with walnut burr trim throughout for an extra touch of class.

The overall presentation of the interior is excellent, with very little age-related wear consistent with the mileage of the car. The passengers door card has a very minor crack in the walnut trim. The carpets and headlining appear in good condition throughout.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in great condition with no major wear to note, and exactly what you would expect from a car that's only covered ~40,000 miles in the past 12 years.

Mercedes-Benz quality is found throughout - the best materials selected for a hard-wearing yet luxurious look and feel. All the dials, controls, and buttons are said to be fully operational.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel and automatic gear selector present in great condition, and are consistent with the overall presentation of the cabin. Both items are in good working order, with the steering wheel boasting many multifunctional buttons.

Mechanics

Mercedes magical blend of performance, economy and luxury make this E-Class highly desirable in the executive market.

Engine and Gearbox

The turbocharged 1.8L pushes out an impressive 184BHP, a top speed of 143MPH, all while offering the driver an average 38MPG. We captured a mechanical video, the car starting from cold, and then settled and ticking over without a problem.

Take a look to see 'One the Road' footage and hear the 1.8L turbo idling. Anne reports that the car goes through the gears as it should. Please take a look at the video and photographs of the very tidy engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

Other executive manufacturers tend to prefer a firmer suspension set up to give a sporty feel. However, this is where Mercedes has the edge, as the E200 devours long journeys with ease and comfort.

Anne reports a very enjoyable and smooth journey in the E-Class, with the suspension offering a comfortable ride and prompt stopping power from the brakes.

The Drive

The E-Class cabriolet has an elegant and sleek look which is reflected in the driving experience. Anne reports the E200 offers a comfortable drive that is very easy to manoeuvre and ideal for long journeys.

The selling point is definitely having the option to drive with an open roof, and with the new Mercedes AirCap system, the car makes driving at high speed a very enjoyable experience.

Electrics and Other

A dazzling array of technology is always offered on a Mercedes, this one is no different. This model is fitted with 'Active Bonnet' pedestrian safety, adaptive brake lights, immobiliser, audio 20, automatic dimming mirror, enhanced anti-theft protection, halogen headlights, heated front seats, heated windscreen wash, LED running lights, and Parktronic.

All the electrical items on the car are reported to be functional and fully working to Annes knowledge.

History and Paperwork

A lovely spec'd E-Class cabriolet, resprayed in its original eye-catching Fire Opel, it's now ready for a summer of roof-down road trips.

This car is coming out of 7 years of ownership with Anne. She has always had any servicing carried out at her local Mercedes-Benz dealer, and due to a manufacturer's recall, the car benefits from a complete respray in 2018. A fresh MOT with no advisories has been issued this week, meaning this car is ready to be enjoyed.

Equipment from factory: 'Active Bonnet' pedestrian safety, 17" alloys, ABS, Adaptive brake lights, Immobiliser, Audio 20, Automic dimming mirror, Burr walnut wood trim, Enhanced anti-theft protection, halogen headlights, heated front seats, heated windscreen wash, LED running lights, Parktronic.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

Hi AnneH,

Was the car in an accident? There seem to be some large scratch marks on the rear bumper and a gap between the bumper and the driver side quarter panel.
Also, are there any signs of water leaking in the boot or in the car?

Thanks

Hi,
Thanks for confirming that there’s no water leaking in the boot. Regarding the scratch marks, you can see them on picture 113 of the exterior photos right under the parking sensor and the gap between the bumper cover and the quarter panel can be seen on picture 109 right above a small dent/scratch.
Could you please provide the contact details of the trade classic expert who viewed the car?
Thanks in advance

Hi Amir79, I can see what you are referring to now, it looks like these are parking dents on the rear bumper in the a couple of locations that we didn’t spot, rather than “accident” damage; https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/mercedes/2010-mercedes-e-class-e200/#gallery1-109 , also https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/mercedes/2010-mercedes-e-class-e200/#gallery1-116 Best, Kulraj – Trade Classics
