Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
The ultimate boulevard cruiser with oodles of power, comfort and elegance - the Mercedes 350 SLC C107 in a nutshell.
The Mercedes 350 SLC C107 is a four-seat coupe with a fixed roof which replaced the W111 Coupé in 1971. Mercedes effectively took the R107 roadster and added 14" to the wheelbase, a fixed roof and some rear seats - a more practical four-seater coupe for all the family.
We love the smooth and tuneful 3.5L V8 Mercedes offered in this 350 model with fuel injection. The SLC is referred to as an 'SL Coupe', this was the first time that Mercedes-Benz had based a coupe on an SL roadster platform rather than a saloon.
We really like this beautiful example owned by Séan for the last 12 years, he's done an excellent job on restoring it to a high standard.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Further to my previous notes on the non-tilting sunroof. I have now managed to free the drive mechanism and in the process of lubricating the slide rails. Roof opens, but I need to apply some further effort to be certain it operates properly.
The motor and switch slide/open/close are operational but still requires a little time to put everything back together.
Further updates to follow.
Kind regards.
Sean
Requested details: “The Number of previous owners” – from the V5C document – 5 previous owners.
Kind regards. Sean
How many previous owners?
The interior detachable sunroof I am in the middle of making, which will completely cover the opening. Earlier this morning I found out why the mechanism does not operate correctly. The team who were repairing some of the mechanical parts did not install the motor drive gearbox correctly. This is now reinstalled, however, there is still the lubrication aspect to attend to. I have checked the electrical parts which work properly, again though, until the lubrication is completed. the roof will be inoperable – work in progress.
Happy to provide any other information or answer further queries? Kind regards. Sean.

Hi Sean it’s Terry how much his the land rover please
Hi Sean I’m unfortunately not familiar with the Sunroofs on these Cars, so please could you tell me if you can see the metal roof from inside the Car or is there some sort of sliding interior cover on the inside to match the head lining as the Sunroof on inside looks as if it could do with a little refinishing or maybe that’s just the photo?
Many Thanks
Adrian
Hello Adrian, whilst in most cases one would usually expect the Mercedes designers to come up with a bullet proof design. However, as this is a non-tilting sunroof, the panel slips backwards into a recessed area in the roof space. I am in the process of checking through the opening and closing mechanism which has not been properly installed. This is work in progress. I may have to resort to removing the panel to lubricate correctly the slip ways which at present seem very stiff. I’ll keep you posted on progress.
Thank you for your interest. Kind regards. Sean
Hi Sean
Thank you for your reply and while I would probably never have the Sun Roof open, I wouldn’t want to be looking up at the bare metal, so does the interior roof lining panel cover that up ok
I Sean can you please let me know if the sunroof is it dry when closes and can you give me a call 07791127360 Terry thanks
On the retractable roof:
Will the car need a new mechanism or would you consider the mis-alignment to be fix-able?
Is the interior panel to the retractable roof missing?
The drive mechanism is twisted and is reached in the RHS of the boot, there is I believe a photo in the pack. The drive mechanism requires demounting of the drive-motor, which is the easy part, the flexible drive is twisted and I found difficult to adjust on my own. So if there are two of you, suggest one could hold a portable light whilst the other demounts the motor and flexi drive. The sunroof operates OK and sits on the frame properly, which has been extensively repaired, however, given more time, I believe the rectification to the flexible drive should be feasible with care. There are several key things to keep in mind, if you intend to undertake the work at home.
I’ll follow up these comments with a list and guide also a url which I have found on the web. Highlighting the method to extract the drive and other useful tips.
The internal panel I have constructed myself knowing from the research via the web, these non -tilting sunroofs can be difficult to operate if not lubricated correctly. That is why I left the panel off to provide easy access without destroying the headlining. I believe the panel is in the boot, I shall though, check and come back with an answer. There are two photos in the first set of exterior photo montage and are near to the final two photos.

Kent will explain some of the reasons for poor or no operation on both manual and power sunroofs up to 1985. The information in this video will pertain to all passenger car models beginning in the mid 1960s up to the mid 1990’s.
I can also confirm the detachable panel I have made is in the boot alongside the the tool-roll.
Incidentally, the sunroof can be operated manually from the boot the mechanism is on the RHS. I have tested this, however conscious of the twist in the flexi-drive which I suspect will be easier to work on once removed.
If you are mechanically minded and patient I am certain you will have a successful outcome.
If you need more information please let me know.
