A beloved limited edition classic mini - the 30th Anniversary was a celebration of three decades of this cult classic.

In 1989, Mini celebrated its 30th Birthday with the Mini 30, a limited run of 3,000 cars. To set it apart from the standard Mini Mayfair, it was adorned with 30th anniversary badges, unique trim-half leather seats, along with some extra equipment. Some of these special features included an option of "Cherry Red" paint with two coats of clear lacquer, Mini 30 crests, servo assisted front brakes, body-coloured arches, sills, wings, and a boot light!

This example covered only ~53,000 miles, and has all the right "30th Anniversary" bits that come with this limited edition celebration model. It's coming to market from just under a years ownership with 4 former keepers before, a nice solid example of a classic Mini.

Meet the owner

I purchased this Mini locally from a long and careful previous ownership.

There are four previous owners for this limited edition 1989 Rover Mini 30, it is one of ~3,000 finished in "Cherry Red" paint option. Lee tells us he's quite a big petrolhead, having owned a few classics over the years, and has had a classic Mini on the list to own. He found this example locally and mentions the previous owner always actioned fixes on any MOT advisories.

The car has not seen much use on the road since Lee purchased it, he always loved the idea of owning a classic Mini, and when the opportunity to purchase a limited-run 30th anniversary arose he did not give it a miss. Lee was reluctant to bring his Mini to auction however, he has a young family and a VW Campervan they plan to travel in, so cannot give the Mini the attention it deserves. Exterior

A collectible Cherry Red classic with special edition decals and exterior trim which makes this car stand out for those in the know.

Wheels and Tyres

The Mini 30 was fitted with sporty 12” Minilite alloy wheels. These wheels present in great condition on each corner, we believe they may have been refurbished at some point.

The wheels wear Nankang CX-668, these are dated 2012/14 the tyres appear in great condition with good amount of tread left.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this limited-edition 30 looks in good condition, with all the panel gaps around the car looking to align very well. On our visit, we did notice small areas of age/bubbling in some typical places for a classic Mini, around the lower boot lip, and along with the offside side skirt as pictured.

We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

The options of paint for the Thirty were "Cherry Red" or "Pearlescent Black". The paint is overall in good condition, on our visit, we did notice some light wear to the paint in the form of faint swirl marks, the driver's door also appears to be an ever so slightly different shade of colour to the rest of the car.

Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

Being a limited run it received a special Mini 30 crest and decals on flanks and boot, plus twin gold/black coach lines along the length of the car.

The glass on this example looks good, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration on our visit. The window seals look good too and in line with the rest of the condition of the car.

The chrome bumpers, grille, door, boot handles, and window surrounds appear in great condition and were very bright and reflective on our visit.

Interior

An exclusive interior for a Mini with red piping, red steering wheel, and half leather trimmed seats.

Seats and Carpets

Unique to the 30, this Mini is fitted with black half leather seats with red piping, tagged with the "30th Anniversary" logo. The seats appear in good condition in line with the age and mileage of the car with the slightest signs of age and some light creasing.

The door cards, Cherry Red cut-pile carpets are all presented in good condition with no issues worth noting.

Dashboard

This 30th-anniversary edition is equipped with a triple pack binnacle, which replaced the old central dial.

This example has no signs of any major damage or scuffs. With no warning lights displayed, the odometer is showing a reading of ~53,042 miles. The dash has a black-plastic finish, which is in great condition, including the centre console.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A red lined leather steering wheel with a '1959-1989' crest certainly captivates your attention when you sit inside the Mini. The gearstick was fitted with a leather gator from the factory.

Both the gear stick and original steering wheel present in great condition.

Mechanics

With its 998cc engine the Mini speeds down country lanes and keeps up with modern traffic very well.

Engine and Gearbox

The limited-edition 30 is equipped with its original 998cc four-cylinder engine with a 4-speed gearbox. Lee addressed some issues this year and has had a new alternator belt, front wiring loom, negative battery lead, temperature sensor wire, alternator warning lamp, and the distributor negative switching wire replaced.

Lee reports a smooth and fun driving experience in the Mini 30 as soon as it's warmed up to temperature. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around town, and for a closer look underneath.

Suspension and Brakes

The Mini Thirty was also fitted with servo-assisted front brakes and drums at the rear. Lee reports prompt stopping power.

A revolutionary and defining aspect of the Mini is its rubber-cone suspension system, which requires very little maintenance. With just ~53,000 miles travelled, the suspension on this example is still in good stead.

The Drive

Lee has loved driving this Mini Thirty locally over his ownership, enjoying the car on warm dry days. He mentions the classic Mini offers such a unique and enjoyable driving experience, one you'll understand as soon as you jump in one.

Electrics and Other

All of the electric items are said to be fully functional and operational, in line with the rest of the condition of the car, just one small point to note; the switch for the hazard lights does not work and will need replacing.

From factory, the car was fitted with a security-coded electronic radio, 2 x Phillips speakers, and a heated rear windscreen. This example has a modern unit fitted, however the original radio is also present but not currently fitted.
