Introduction
Alan Stuart
With only ~300 ever produced for the home market, it's safe to say that the Mini Paul Smith is a bit of a rarity.
Over five million Minis were produced between the car's launch in 1959 to 2000, however, standing out from the crowd was never an issue with the choice between so many different models and editions produced across the years. The Paul Smith limited edition run of ~1,800 examples (with ~300 designated for the home market), was one of the most distinctive limited-edition Minis ever produced. The car shared the basic spec of the revered Mini Cooper, powered by a ~64BHP, 1,275cc fuel-injected engine and included Minilite-type alloys, full leather seats, colour-coded wheel arch extensions and mirrors finished in a distinctive purple/blue hue chosen by Paul Smith himself.
This Paul Smith Mini comes to market with just ~34,537 miles on the clock with just 1 former keeper registere. It had a major restoration in 2013 which included new headlining, new wheel arches, chrome windscreen surrounds, new panel replacements and a bare metal respray at a cost of over ~£13,000. The car has also had a good amount of service history, and most importantly comes with all the original Mini Paul Smith limited edition items, even including the Paul Smith document box for the book pack and the storage bag for the jack. Presented in excellent condition, we think this is a collectors item that can also been driven and enjoyed.
This listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Gerry the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Hi, is it possible to view this before the auction ends?
Yes it is – please contact me on 07787228709 to arrange a viewing in Uckfield Sussex which is where the car is stored
Gerry
1. Why does the mileage reduce by 276 miles between the January 2017 MOT (33,396 miles) and the January 2018 service (33,120 miles)?
2. There appears to be bubbling in the seams between the scuttle panel and the wings (where the original gap has been bridged from a respray) – please can you confirm?
3. The inside of the expansion bottle looks rather brown and mucky. Does the car overheat and have the heater matrix and radiator been checked for any blockages? Blockages commonly build up through lack of use, which this car has had.
4. The car currently has no MOT. Is it being sold with a clean MOT (with any potential advisories addressed)? I am concerned by the corrosion on the rear subframe.
Nice to see potential customer inspecting paperwork closely –
1-it is simply a admin error in quoting the mileage on the service invoice
2-when new panels are fitted it is bodywork shop practice to use body filler to bridge the gaps -this is normal practice
3-yes expansion tank is showing dirty water and will be flushed and refilled – no overheating with me and heater works well /
Heater works well – a mot test is booked for next week and can provide additional photos …. A replacement sub frame was fitted during the £13,000 restoration
You are welcome to inspect the vehicle prior to sale
Am able to answer additional questions if required

Hi Gerry,
Thank you for your reply.
There appears to be bubbling in the seams between the scuttle panel and the wings – please can you confirm? When these areas are bridged with filler it commonly leads to bubbling beneath the paint and/or cracking.
When the expansion bottle is flushed and refilled, will the heater matrix and radiator be checked for blockages? It wouldn’t surprise me if there is a blockage somewhere, hence why the water is so dirty.
Is the car being supplied with a clean, advisory-free MOT?
I understand your concern and will report again on Monday when it goes for the MOT -expansion bottle and heater matrix will be flushed out and cleaned ….. if you wish to inspect the car please do come – where are you exactly?
Gerry
You can call me if it helps you understand what you are buying
If you would like to contact the Bodyshop that did the £13,000 restoration I’m sure they will give the reassurance that you need and they can explain the restoration process and give you the confidence to make a buying decision .
Hi Gerry,
Thank you.
Sadly, I won’t get an opportunity to view the vehicle before the auction ends, so I am relying solely on the information provided by you / the auction listing.
It won’t be necessary for me to contact the bodyshop but if you can confirm whether there is bubbling in between the scuttle panel and wings that would be great. It is difficult to tell from the photos on the auction listing.
I’ll wait to hear from you once the vehicle has returned from its MOT etc on Monday.
You can contact me on 07787228709 to arrange a viewing near Uckfield in Sussex
