Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
Built with bags of charm, the last of the Mini Coopers are the ones to have.
All good things must come to an end, and Rover prepared a series of run-out Mini’s to celebrate the end of an era of one of Britain’s most celebrated motoring icons. In the last few years of production, the factory prepared several limited edition models, including five distinct versions during the very last year of production. Amongst these cars was the Mini Classic Cooper Sport, which utilised the popular Sport pack option as a standard fitting. Distinguishable by its use of platinum Silver roof and bonnet stripes, the significant difference was inside, with a tasteful alloy dashboard, window winders, door pulls and handles. The seats too were also given a colour silver theme, with Nickle silver leather seats with black facings.
This beautifully presented example was first registered in South West London in April 2000, making it one of the earlier limited edition Cooper Sports models. Finished in "British Racing Green", this one was one of the three available colours for this model. Fitted with the optional sports style 13” alloy wheels, its main focus of desirability aside from the excellent overall condition is the factory-fitted electrically operated Webasto sunroof. Furthermore, the car has since been fitted with an upgraded Moulton Smootha-Ride suspension kit and an aftermarket Alpine head unit with iPod connectivity. It comes with an MOT to January 2024, 2 keys, as well as a stack of invoices and previous MOTs, all supporting its low mileage of just 47,892.

Hi How many owners has the car had?
I’m only aware of comments years ago about slight corrosion to some areas and am confident that this vehicle is one of the best around at this sort of age and mileage. It’s not a new car and the last classic Minis were especially prone to corrosion so finding one exactly as new will be difficult. If you lift the carpet you will see that the floor on the inside is excellent. I looked at lots and this was the best and most honest example around. It may have had some reconditioning done by a selling dealer prior to being sold to a previous owner and if it did it was to a high standard. The seats have probably been in the most rearward position since new and may need lubrication if you need the seat nearer the steering wheel. If you were to view the car (and you can if you would like to) you will appreciate how tidy it is and everyone who has looked at it has said it’s the best they’ve seen and difficult to fault. The photographer who took the photos for this auction commented that he’d photographed lots of Mini’s and this one was the best he’d done. He also commented on how good it was underneath. I carried out an HPI check when I purchased the vehicle and it was all clear with no accident damage mentioned.
The MOT history highlights corrosion in various areas (seat belt anchorage points /cills) at different times in the past, also damage to seat frames and seat adjustment mechanisms. There is no receipt paperwork etc for remedial work to resolve these issues. The seat frame damage, could this be a result of accident damage ? The MOT history clearly show that this car has not always been cherished by all of it’s previous owners. therefore some explanation is required to explain the discrepancies/ omissions in the description text.
