Introduction

1952 Morgan plus 4 - these cars were built originally to compete in 6 day trials immediately after the war.

I’ve owned this car (my third Morgan) for 6 plus years - it has had a complete rebuild over the last year, with a late TR4A engine.

I’ve enjoyed the work so much, I need to start a new project.

Market Auction

Alan, the seller, has created this listing themselves using our free Market Auction tool. Unlike our Curated Auctions, we haven’t photographed the car or written the listing, however we have completed 3 important security checks for your peace of mind.

V5C Checked

Alan provided a copy of the V5C logbook, which we verified against his photo ID for name and address confirmation.

ID Checked

Alan provided his photo ID, which we verified against the name and address on the V5C logbook.

History Checked

History check actioned using HPi, the industry’s top verification service, for finance, write-offs, and stolen records.

Exterior

The car has had a bare metal respray in British Racing Green with silver wheels - stunning.

Wheels and Tyres

All 6 wheels re-enamelled in silver, fitted with 5.25 x 16 6 ply cross ply tyres.

Bodywork

Bodywork A1. No dinks dents or scratches - please look at the images.

Paint

Expensive bare metal respray in BRG with silver wheels - excellent condition.

Glass and Trim

Windscreen replaced 3 years ago by Tim Ayres of New Elms Garage.

Side screens and hood rear window are in very good original condition.

Interior

Delightful traditional vintage driving position, with wood rim steering wheel and fly off handbrake.

Seats and Carpets

Seats re-covered in black leather with beading trim in green.

Dashboard

Wooden dash panel, with correct Morgan instruments, comprising of; speedometer, rev counter, water temperature, oil pressure, fuel gauge and ammeter.

Speedometer and rev-counter re-conditioned, so the mileage showing is clearly not the total the car has covered in its 75 odd years.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Four spoke wooden steering wheel fitted, with original steering wheel included.

Wooden gear lever knob.

Fly off handbrake.

Mechanics

Superb late TR4A engine with wonderful torque, makes for a very smooth and quick driving experience.

Engine and Gearbox

Late TR4A engine fitted with 89mm pistons and liners, Piper re-profiled cam, rebuilt twin SU carbs, stainless steel free flow exhaust, electronic ignition etc.

Crankshaft rear oil seal modification fitted with machining, parts, help and advice by TRGB in Cambridgeshire.

Clutch bell housing modified to take a roller bearing by G.E.E. Ltd near Stroud.

Suspension and Brakes

Standard Morgan traditional suspension, regularly serviced, beautifully suited to the cross ply tires.

I’ve fitted a brake servo to the standard drum brakes, but I’m not convinced it’s needed - gentle pressure is needed to avoid locking the wheels.

The Drive

The performance is wonderful.

The increase in capacity has increased the torque, and you find third and fourth gear is all you tend to use. The car is light and quick, keeping up with modern traffic effortlessly.

The engine is not as yet fully run in, but shows immense potential.

Electrics and Other

Electronic ignition fitted, and I fitted a new traditional cloth covered wiring loom after a wire burnt out, one dark and very wet night, coming home on the A5. Driving without lights, screen flat, so I could see in the driving rain was a night to remember.

History and Paperwork

Huge history file, many, many receipts, articles and pictures from when the car was featured in early magazines.

Car no longer is required to be taxed or MOT’d. Car in my ownership has been regularly served by myself. It’s not difficult.

History file goes back to the fifties, just a small selection shown below.

All receipts from the latest rebuild kept and included of course.

From Trade Classics:

This is a Market Auction listing, meaning we have not visited and photographed the car - instead the seller has supplied the images and written the description. However we’ve done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID that matches the V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPi that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

Viewings are welcomed, so please get in touch with us via the 'contact us' page - we just need to speak to you first on the phone, have you register on the site, and also send in valid photo ID before confirming a suitable time to visit.

Like all our auctions, if there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - the Buyer's Premium is not refundable in any instance, just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
