Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Retaining the same charm and driving pleasure as the original model, backed by over 75 years of heritage.

The Morgan Plus 4 is a more powerful and larger model compared to the 4/4 - it was produced from 1950 to 1969 and later revived in 1985, remaining in production until 2000, when it was succeeded by the Plus 8.

This example is fully equipped with the 2-litre version of Fiat's Twin-Cam engine, coupled to the gearbox and clutch from the Plus 8, and only built until '88.

The car is MOT'd until the 23.07.25 and then becomes exempt (Tax / MOT) on its 40th birthday in October.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Rob the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

What a car, I've loved being the custodian of this Morgan Plus 4 over the previous three years; it turns heads wherever I go.

Rob has thoroughly enjoyed owning this Plus 4 over the past ~2.5 years - he's kept the car in his dry garage, reserved for sunny weekends only, which is clearly reflected in its low mileage and condition.

Rob had hoped to keep this example to enjoy for many years. However, after inheriting his dad's TVR Griffith, Rob believes it will be sensible to own just one classic car. As a result, Rob is bringing it to auction with us at Trade Classics.

Rob will be on hand to answer any questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

With its desirable curves, the Morgan’s design is iconic and instantly recognisable.

Wheels and Tyres

The 15" wheels, finished in stainless silver, look great on this example and give the car a sporty appeal. During our visit, the wheels appear well cared for, with no sign of any obvious damage to any of the spokes, as they had a full refurbished last month.

The wheels are fitted with Michelin Primacy 4 tyres on the front dated 2023, and these appear to be in great condition, with a good amount of tread remaining - on the rear are Michelin energy savers and dated 2007; there is some slight signs of cracking and age on the sidewalls.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Plus 4 looks in good condition, with all the panel gaps around the car appearing to align very well. During our visit, we didn't spot any obvious dings or dents around the bodywork.

Being picky, we did notice some very small areas of corrosion on the side arches and noticeable patch on the offside bonnet.

We've provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in an attractive and bright blue, the paint is applied with even coverage and colour across each panel. While we did notice the occasional very small and minor stone chip at the front of the car - you'll have to get really close to notice these.

Additionally, we observed some very minor wear in the door jams, and you can see these small defects in the photos and videos below.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this Morgan Plus 4 example looks good and is in line with the mileage. During our visit, we didn't notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration. The window seals also look good and align with the overall condition of the car.

The bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds are all in great condition as well. You can see in the exterior photos that the convertible top is in good condition with no tears or rips.

Rob rarely drives the car with the top up, as he drives the car only in dry weather.

Interior

Appointed in black leather with burr wood detailing throughout, the Plus 4 preserves its classic vintage character.

Seats and Carpets

The black leather seats have held their shape very well over the years, as you would expect with cherished and careful ownership.

A similar story is told with the door cards and black carpets.

For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look at the extensive media.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a burr wood finish and presents two dials in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this Plus 4 shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs, and with no warning lights displayed.

The odometer showed a reading of ~44,532 miles during our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A wood wrapped Mota Lita Morgan steering wheel is fitted and is in great condition, aligning with the age of this car, and the wooden gear stick looks good too.

For a closer look, check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

Driven by the characterful and sought-after 2.0-litre Fiat twin-cam engine, it delivers ample power to the rear wheels and complements the chassis.

Engine and Gearbox

The 2.0L twin-cam engine from Fiat is raspy and nippy unit and is coupled to the gearbox and clutch from the Plus 8. On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold, and it performed well on the road, the engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

Rob reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well with its smooth manual gearbox powering the rear wheels.

Please take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around the local area, and for a closer look underneath the Morgan Plus 4 and the engine bay.

Rob does report a small leak of oil from the engine.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension seems to be in good condition and offered a comfortable and smooth ride on the winding countryside roads.

During our short drive in the car, it behaved just as you would expect from a Morgan of this era, coming to a stop without any issues as well.

The Drive

An extremely fun and enjoyable drive is offered with this Morgan Plus 4; especially with the roof down.

Rob has loved using the car on short trips around his local town and to the Morgan factory.

The Plus 4 fired up the first time with no issues to report. On the road with Rob the car felt tight, exhibiting plenty of power to navigate the road.

We didn’t notice any unusual noises coming from the engine or suspension either.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t test all the electrics during our visit, but Rob reports that they are all functional and operational, aligning with the overall condition of the car.

History and Paperwork

The car is accompanied by a comprehensive history file - a considerable amount of money has been spent on this Morgan to maintain it as original as possible.

The car is coming out of a ~2.5 year ownership with Rob.

The car comes with a black hood, 2x tonneau covers and 15" stainless steel wheels.

Please take a look at this history and paperwork media to see the previous MOT reports, servicing and parts this Plus 4 has received over its life.

The Morgan comes with a current MOT valid until 21.07.2025.

DVLA has the car listed as a 4/4, however it is a +4 due to the larger engine and styling differences.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
