Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

Based on the Plus 4 chassis, the Morgan Plus 8 is noticeably wider to accommodate the wider wheels to handle the ever increasing power from the 3.9 litre V8.

The Plus 8 was produced by Morgan for 36 years between 1968 and 2004 and was reborn from 2012 to 2018. Among enthusiasts, the Plus 8 is deeply associated with Peter Morgan, the owner-chairman behind its design. Installing a meaty V8 engine in the front of a traditional Morgan roadster was an ingenious idea that worked well for Morgan. They created Britain's fastest accelerating production car for a time, and this creation proved so endearing it remained on sale with very few alterations for 36 years.

This 1995 Morgan Plus 8 has been with our vendor Mark for the past seven years and has been cherished, as you can see from the condition of the two-seater roadster. An impressive 3.9 litres of V8 power is what nestles beneath the bonnet of this classic British lightweight vehicle.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Mark the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The Morgan was just the car I had been searching for - a low mileage example and came from a private collection.

Mark has been the owner of this beautiful 1995 Morgan Plus 8 for the past seven years and will openly admit that he has loved every single mile of the 10,000 miles he has covered in it. One trip that springs to mind was completing the North Coast 500 route, which was terrific fun for Mark and his wife, as this is where the Morgan comes into its own along the Scottish Coastal highland roads.

The 3.9 litre V8 makes the drive effortless, and plenty of power is there when needed.

Please feel free to ask Mark any questions in the comments below.

Exterior

Old English White with a Maroon hood was a special order colour, and helps this Plus 8 stand out from the rest - a stunning colourway.

Wheels and Tyres

The chrome wire wheels are the originals and are in lovely condition with minimal tarnishing to the chrome finish.

The tyres are all matching and have a good amount of tread remaining.
Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

The Morgan presents exceptionally well, and there are no dings or dents to mention on the bodywork of this Plus 8. The doors look to align as they should and open and close nicely. The bonnet also aligns as intended. A black leather belt with a Morgan buckle holds it closed, with some chrome catches along the bottom edges. Opening up from either side allows access to the powerhouse V8. Mark has replaced the front grille and also the door mirrors from rectangle to round.

The maroon hood is in excellent condition and is the original for the car. Mark has fitted a kit to tension the roof when putting it up, which makes the whole process much more manageable. Also included is a double duck tonneau cover.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in a special order colour of Jaguar Old English White, the Morgan still wears the original coat of paint, explains Mark, and we think the car presents well all over.

Being picky, there are a few small chips to the front arches which have been touched on; being so low, this is inevitable on any car.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows around the car are in excellent condition with no apparent scratches, particularly to the sliding perspex side windows. The windscreen has been replaced and so is in good order. The plastic windows in the roof are in good condition with no discolouration or splits.

The chrome trim around the windows is all in good order with just minimal signs of pitting in an odd few places. The rest of the chrome work on the bumpers and headlight surrounds is nice and bright with no tarnishing.

Interior

Maroon leather against the Old English White is a fantastic choice for the Morgan.

Seats and Carpets

The Maroon leather sport seats are generally in good order, with just some very light age-related wear to the driver's side and some light cracking to the leather.

The carpets are in good condition with no excessive wear to be seen. The door cards are also in good condition with no scuffs or damage.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

Trimmed with matching leather to the seats, the dashboard has no damage. The fascia is Burr Walnut and is free from any cracking to the lacquered finish. All of the instruments are working correctly, and the odometer shows a reading of ~27,997 miles at the time of our photographs.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

What a perfect steering wheel! The wood-rimmed, three-spoke Moto-Lita is in excellent condition and complete with the Morgan centre. The gearknob is in black and in good order and shows the shift pattern numbers 1-5 and reverse.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

Let's face it, with 204bhp out of the box in a car weighing in at a mere 851kg - it will always be fun!

Engine and Gearbox

The engine choice for the Morgan Plus 8 is the tried and tested 3.9 litre V8 from Rover. This engine is the later type with a fuel injection system ensuring as much power as possible is squeezed from the V8 whilst offering an acceptable return on the mpg.

The engine in the Morgan fired up straight away, as seen in our On The Road video, and sounds fantastic as you would expect from a V8. There are no untoward noises to be heard from the car whilst idling or driving.

The gear change is smooth and precise in the car, and it pulls well through the 5-speed gearbox.

Suspension and Brakes

On the handling side, the car is great fun. The suspension is firm without being crashy, and there are no untoward noises coming from either corner. The brakes appear to be in good order bringing the car to a halt in a straight and even manner.

The Drive

What a car to be in as a passenger or better still, a driver!

A stainless steel exhaust is fitted and makes the car slightly louder than standard, but with that said, it is not too loud and enhances the V8 soundtrack.

Electrics and Other

Inside, the switch gear is all reported to work as it should with little or no wear to the buttons or levers. Mark has fitted two green lights connected to the indicators to illuminate when they are on. There is a stereo fitted under the dash, which does work. The speakers are fitted on either side of the seats in the quarter section.

History and Paperwork

A nice service history and handbook come with this low mileage Morgan Plus 8.

A good selection of invoices shows what work has been carried out on the Morgan. Looking through the paperwork, everything fitted has been run of the mill maintenance items, and no major work looks to have been needed throughout its life. The most recent service was carried out approximately ~3,000 miles ago, where it received oils, filters, spark plugs, and HT leads. Just a few miles later, the 02 sensor, ignition amplifier and coil were replaced.

If you are searching for a low mileage Morgan Plus 8, this is probably the one you have been searching for. Low mileage, original condition, well maintained. What more could you ask for?

The car is registered with the number XPM 493 and is included in the sale.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Is there a reserve?

Hi,

This will of course very much depend on what the buyers are willing to pay, and what the seller is willing to move to in terms of the reserve price. Our recommendation is to get involved in the bidding if you are interested in acquiring this car.

Chalky, there is a reserve, and as indicated on the website, it has not been met.

Best,

Kulraj – Trade Classics
