Introduction

Kevin Jacutan
Professional Consigner

A British icon, the Moggie is an elegant classic and a great entry into ownership, practical enough to use daily!

The Morris Minor first appeared at the Earls Court Motor Show in London in 1948. This is the third series Minor known as the 1000 series in the desirable coupe body shape. A broad range of colours and trim options were available which kept the car competitive and thus enabled production volumes to increase and retain a significant share of the small car market.

Powered by the A-Series 948cc engine, a perky and resilient engine which was ideal for the masses. The 1000s are easily distinguished by their curved one-piece windscreen and larger rear window.

This "Moggie" was cherished and maintained by Dawn's late husband, the car has been in storage for the previous 12 months, and she is now looking for a like-minded Morris Minor fan to take over ownership and keep it running on the road. The car has been in the family for some time, the previous owner being an uncle who restored it to the condition you see today, and now in the current ownership for ~1 year.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kevin after meeting Dawn the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This Morris has been in the family for some time, it's a lovely example that really deserves to be driven.

The custodian of this 1962 Morris Minor 1000 is Dawn, her late husband purchased this example from his uncle in December 2020. His uncle carried out a restoration on the car and was often found driving and tinkering on it in his spare time.

Since her husband passed away, and the car being in professional storage, Dawn feels that the car would be better in the hands of a Morris enthusiast rather than staying parked up. Please feel free to ask any questions about the car in the comments below and Dawn will do her best to answer.

GET YOUR VALUATION

Exterior

A head-turning example, finished in an elegant grey, it's a great period colour that suits the design.

Wheels and Tyres

The Moggie rides on 1960's steel wheels finished in off white. They look great with their reflective Morris hub caps. Each wheel appears in good condition in line with the mileage and condition of the rest of the car.

Each wheel is wrapped in Toyo 310's, and each tyre appears to have a good amount of tread left on for the new custodian. Please take a look at the exterior photographs and videos for a full detailed tour of each wheel.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this Morris looks great as a whole, you can really tell this example has received a lot of attention and love in the past, with no major areas worth noting.

The panel gaps all look great, especially for a car that is almost 60 years old. This car looks to be ready to go to shows and club meets this summer. We have taken hi-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in what we believe to be the period colour "Smoke Grey", the paintwork looked great on our consignment. In line with the care it's received over its previous ownership, the car has been well maintained and stored and is now ready to be enjoyed.

The coverage and colour of the paint appear even across each panel of the body, a lovely example. Again, please take time to review all the images and videos showing the paint from different angles and reflections, to assess the condition for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks great on this car, free from scratches, cracks or chips. The chrome trim tells a similar story, clean and in great condition around the car.

Please take a look at the exterior photos and videos.

Interior

A very welcoming interior, offering practicality and character, perfect for the 60s family.

Seats and Carpets

Fitted with classic Morris seats, they appear in great condition throughout, retaining that original character.

The headlining, door cards and carpets follow suit and match the rest of the condition of the car, very good condition throughout considering the age. Please take a look at the images for a detailed view of the cabin.

Dashboard

A very familiar classic dashboard, just one large central dial, similarly found in the Austin Mini. The choke, light, and wiper toggles/switches are also fitted with metal surrounds.

The dashboard is finished in body-matching paint, which looks in great condition, some minor wear in areas, but retaining the classic character of this Moggie.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A traditional Morris steering wheel is fitted within this 1000, the steering wheel and gear stick present in excellent condition throughout with very little signs of wear.

Please take a look at the videos for a detailed tour of the interior of this car.

Mechanics

The 1000 series featured a tried and tested 1.0L engine, a sturdy power-plant which today can be easily maintained by the home mechanic.

Engine and Gearbox

Fitted with a 948cc engine, these cars can keep up with modern traffic on the "B roads", and is ideal and practical enough to still use day-to-day. Having sat in dry storage for around 12 months, the car required jump-starting, and once alive ran very well. We captured a video going through all the gears, including reverse in the mechanical video.

Take a look to also see around the very tidy engine bay, and a closer look underneath the car.

The car is exempt from MOT's however if you take a look at the history and paperwork, the car has some regular MOT's to keep the car mechanically up to scratch and road-worthy.

Suspension and Brakes

The Minor came with front torsion bar suspension, which was shared with the larger Oxford MO. No problems appeared to present on our journey in the car from the ride quality or braking system.

The Drive

A spacious, comfortable and highly practical experience is waiting for you. The Morris Minor was a motoring stalwart, and today it has a classic charm from a bygone era.

Electrics and Other

The electrics are quite "back to basics" as you would expect from a Series III developed in 1956. The electrical features, such as the radio and lights appear to be in great condition and are reported to be working. As per the jumpstart, the battery will need charging and/or replacing.

History and Paperwork

A restored example coming from long term family ownership, a lovely example waiting for someone to pick it up and enjoy on the roads once again.

Take a look through the paperwork and history media to see the extensive MOT history this car comes with recently. It was restored by uncle in the family, coming in to the current ownership in December 2020.

The car has been in dry storage for the previous 12 months, and Dawn believes the right decision is now to part with the car and find it a like-minded enthusiast to take over ownership. She will be happy to answer any of your questions in the comments below.

Due to the MOT history, it appears the speedometer was changed around ~26,000 miles.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Good morning Dawn, sorry about your loss and the reason for having to part with it, it looks a lovely moggy and it is a car that i have wanted for many years and now is the time for me to do so.
Do you know if the car runs on unleaded petrol?
Regards Russ
