Recent Buyer Review – Eamonn McParland on 11th May “From my first general enquiry through to the purchase of my very own MGA, Adam and the team at Trade Classics were quite simply, awesome. I fully recommend Trade Classics without hesitation nor reservation to everyone who is seeking a classic car. A brilliant business model, supported by a really neat and usable website though ultimately managed by a great group of professional, sincere and trustworthy people”. Here at Trade Classics we’re big fans of the Porsche 912. What’s not to love about these cars, they have the same fantastic looks as the early 911 long hood, and why, well that’s because they have the same body! They are fitted with the revvy, super robust and reliable flat four engine.
Also, they hold massive investment opportunity right now. Whilst we’ve all been focused on the 911 over the last few years, this little car has gone under the radar and covertly been growing in popularity and price. The last year has seen the most growth and industry experts predict it to continue. We all know the rarer the car the more valuable it can be, well this little car is quite rare, much rarer than its bigger brother. Let’s look at the stats, only 32,000 were made in just 5 years (1964 to 1969), so when you compare that against 443,00 air-cooled 911’s produced from 1963 to 1997, then you’re actually buying something a little bit rarer; 92.8% rarer in fact!
I wrote an article on the 912 a few weeks ago and the investment opportunity it presents to us at the moment – click here to read.
In recent months prices have stabilised and around £25k for a rolling restoration, then circa £35k-£40k for good examples and concours beyond that. When you compare the rarity, the fact it’s an early Porsche and it has the same gorgeous looks as an early 911, then is it just me or do these figures sound ridiculously cheap.
This Porsche belongs to a friend of us here at Trade Classics, his name is Gary Turner and he’s a proper car guy. Gary has owned and enjoyed many cars over the years, including some very beautiful and rare 911’s.
Last year Gary and his wife made a decision to sell up in the UK and move to Canada for work opportunities. They sold everything from their house to his entire car collection including Porsche 911’s, Porsche 912, Honda NSX, Datsun 250Z and various others.
It wasn’t long until Gary scratched his itch for more cars in Canada, he has since bought a beautiful and early VW campervan, Porsche 911 ST, concours MGA amongst others. Gary has decided to import this car to the UK, and we are delighted to be handling the sale.
The car is dry stored in a garage near Daventry – the garage has been looking after and managing the car on Gary’s behalf, and will be available for viewings at their premises.
This is a stunning Porsche 912 and is in really lovely condition, as it has benefited from a recent restoration.
Wheels & Tyres
The car is sitting on new 195/65 Firestone tyres and wrapped around 15 inch Fuchs wheels. The wheels are in excellent condition, as can be seen in the videos and photographs.
Bodywork
The bodywork across the car is excellent. We noticed no bodywork issues and the shut-lines and panel gaps are good considering the car is now 52 years old – full details can be seen in our videos and photographs.
Paint
The car has been finished in the original Aga blue colour and is very good across the car, having been subject to a recent restoration. There’s a slight chip on the top right hand corner around the engine bay, this has been created by the engine lid touching it in the past. There are no stone chips as this car hasn’t been driven on the main road yet. It’s a totally fresh restoration and the paint colour looks even across the entire car.
Glass and Trim
All the glass and trim across the car is in excellent condition. The chrome is also in excellent condition with none of the usual pitting than can usually be found on similar cars.
The interior on this Porsche 912 is exceptional – it’s really been fitted out to a high standard.
Seats and Carpets
The car comes with period correct seats, however, there is one issue with the driver’s seat, the reclining mechanism doesn’t hold the seat back in place. Gary has now fitted new sports seats after we took the majority of our images and videos. The original seats are included in the sale and the new owner can choose to fix / refit them if required. Both sets of seats are in excellent condition and so too is the new grey carpet.
Dashboard
The dashboard is in excellent condition with no cracks.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The steering wheel has been recovered and it is in great condition, as can be seen in the images and videos.
As the car hasn’t been registered in the UK yet, we did not take the car on our usual run. We did however do our normal cold start video, and Kulraj took it for a run around the large private road where the car is stored.
Engine and Gearbox
The engine started first go from cold, as can be observed in our video, with no blue smoke issues and it idled smoothly from cold. Kulraj managed to select all the gears on his run and there were no issues. The clutch felt good and the bite point was midway up the travel.
Suspension and Brakes
The suspension looks in great condition as you can see from the video of the underside of the car. Also, there where no knocks or rattles on the drive up to about 30mph and the brakes worked well too. The garage in Daventry has also fitted new front and rear arm bushes, rear torsion bushes, gearbox mount bushes and reconditioned the brake calipers.
The Drive
Please click on the video to see Kulraj driving the car on a short test – no issues were observed.
Electrics and Other
No issues noted.
All the paperwork that comes with the car has been scanned and is included in the images below. If you have any queries on the invoices then please drop a note in the comments field below and Gary will get back to you with an answer.
Importantly, this is a matching numbers car, i.e. the engine and body number match the CoA as can be seen in the media pack.

This really is a great little fresh-to-market and original Porsche 912 that is ready to be enjoyed and admired.

In terms of value, this car is one of the best ones we’ve seen recently and on the market currently; Gary is motivated to sell and as such has priced the car accordingly, meaning it’s a great buy for someone looking to enter into the 912 world.
