Introduction
Dom Ginn
Exhilarating performance and elegant design captures the spirit of the late '70s whilst paving the way for Porsche’s legendary legacy.
Launched in 1978, the SC (Super Carrera) replaced the previous Carrera 3.0 model and it features a lighter aluminium engine initially producing ~180bhp. Production of the SC ran until 1983 with its replacement, the Carrera 3.2, subsequently launched in 1984.
This model features the Sportomatic semi-automatic transmission, three gears with no clutch. The Sportomatic was only available as an option on the 911 SC for one year, 1979, making the car we present here a very rare opportunity, with only ~178 ever made for the UK market.
It is estimated the current owner has spent around ~£20,000 on the car so far, carrying out a rebuild of the automatic transmission, lowering the sports suspension, upgrading the replica Fuchs wheels, adding a double outlet exhaust and replacement for a Momo steering wheel. All original parts, including the Cookie Cutter wheels and steering wheel, are included with the final sale.
Ultimately the Porsche does need further restoration works carried out to it, particularly on the interior. With the right levels of care and attention, this 911 SC should be a real showstopper, especially given the work already completed and rare status.

oh Good. Thanks for the Info
There is a reserve and once hit, it notifies everyone who is bidding, sorry my term and conditions of the sale prohibit me to tell you what that is ?
Can’t see if it’s a Reserve or No reservrve been looking on site all the pages, but don’t see any Information or any Valuation Guidance
Hi Finn, just to say we let you make your own mind up on the value. There’s a little ‘Learn More’ link by the place bid button that tells you about our reserve policy. I can tell you that you have to be the highest bidder to get first refusal if the car doesn’t hit reserve – we do expect it to hit in this case. Cheers Adam
Thank you
Evening Finn, I have never registered the car as an historical vehicle, I have only register it for the exemption on tax and Mot’s as it’s over 40 years old
i know its very short notice i just joined trade classics 5 minutes and seen this great looking car. my question is, has the car been registered as a Historic Vehicle with the dvla as this could make a difference for me.
Hi, apologies no it does not have cruise control
Morning, sorry to say I sold it, it was not the original and was red under the blue paint. I must admit gutted I did not keep it.
Oil, so the engine is 100% dry, no weeping and no drips, I only go near the oil once a year when I service it. So I have never had to top it up, however I also have never pushed it on long journeys, in comparison I take my other one to France every year I do put my foot down and I top up every two days on the week trip, so I would assume and only assume if I did a long hard trip, that I would need to top up, I think it’s standard for 911’s of this period, but might be wrong. I hope this helps
Hello there Stuart,
Does the whale tale that you removed come with the car ?
Also, does the car use any engine oil over a certain amount of time etc? I.e Every month or so you have to put half a litre in ?
Thank you again and
Morning, it does not have cruise control!
Hi Stuart does the cruise control work?
Hi, ok I can’t see the make, I popped my head under the back and at the side on the front and you can adjust the suspension, I also called RS Automotive (I know the owner) who did the work, they can’t remember the make, but did say they are 100% adjustable!! Being transparent as I cannot see the make, then please assume they are adjustable aftermarket setup
Hi, thanks for the information about the suspension.
Hi, I am away this weekend, but will check the paperwork and post the answer in the morning
Hi there,
You mentioned that uprated sports suspension has been fitted to the car. Which type is this eg: Bilstein, Eibach etc?
Can you give more detail about when it was fitted and confirm its fully height adjustable.
Thank you!
