Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

Fuchs alloys, a whale tail, and an air-cooled 3.0L flat-six – the perfect recipe for a road trip this summer.

Launched in 1978, the SC (Super Carrera) replaced the previous Carrera 3.0 model and it features a lighter aluminium engine initially producing ~180bhp. Production of the SC ran until 1983 with its replacement, the Carrera 3.2, subsequently launched in 1984.

The G-series model has to be one of the most iconic shapes of the 911, from the sculpted front wings, following the shape of the headlights, to the huge whale tail at the rear.

This specific car is a 1980 911 SC. It comes to market from ~17 years ownership, and has had important work completed at different times in its life. It had a timing chain tensioners, stainless steel exhaust, and a brake master cylinder replacement. It comes with its original service book, many MOT certificates, a number of receipts, and is now MOT exempt but does come with a current MOT valid until 14.03.2026.

This listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting Steve the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This was the first 911 I went to view 17 years ago, and I couldn’t resist buying it there and then.

Steve has thoroughly enjoyed owning this 911 SC over the past 17 years. It has been kept in his dry garage, reserved for sunny weekends only, which is reflected in its mileage and condition.

He has used the car as a second vehicle for short trips around Chepstow and the UK. However, due to limited use in recent years, Steve has decided to bring this 911 SC to auction with us. Steve will be available to answer any questions about the car in the comments below.

Exterior

Finished in the iconic Guards Red paintwork and paired with gloss black Fuchs alloys, the SC is a truly stunning car.

Wheels and Tyres

The 16" Fuchs wheels, finished with black centres and silver surrounds, look great on this example and give the car a sporty appeal. During our visit, the wheels appeared to be in good used condition. Upon closer inspection, we noticed a few minor scruffs and scratches around each wheel.

The wheels are fitted with Bridgestone S-02 tyres, which also appear to be in good condition, with a healthy amount of tread remaining and no visible cracking or signs of age on the sidewalls, dated 2008.

Bodywork

The bodywork of this Porsche 911 SC looks to be in good condition, with all the panel gaps around the car appearing to align well. During our visit, we didn’t spot any obvious dings or dents. However, upon closer inspection and from certain angles, you can notice a small area of corrosion under the paintwork on the bonnet, along the front offside bumper, on the rear boot, and a small area of bubbling under the nearside Targa badge.

We’ve provided more detailed observations through our high-resolution images and videos. Please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in iconic Guards Red, the paint is applied with even coverage and colour across each panel. While we did notice the occasional very small scratch on the car, particularly on the front bumper, both front wings, both rear wings, and on the nearside door, you'll need to get really close to notice these.

Once again, we've captured high-resolution images and videos of the car for you to assess the condition of the bodywork for yourselves.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this 911 SC example looks good and is consistent with the mileage. During our visit, we didn’t notice any chips, cracks, or discolouration. The window seals also look good and are in line with the overall condition of the car.

The bumpers, door handles, and window surrounds are all in good condition as well. You can see in the exterior photos that the Targa top is in used condition with some wear. Steve rarely drives the car with the Targa top on, as he only drives it in dry weather.

Interior

A driver-focused design, iconic dials, and a touch of class with its tartan plaid seats.

Seats and Carpets

The front black half-leather seats with tartan centres have held their shape very well over the years, as you would expect with cherished and careful ownership.

A similar story is told with the door cards and black carpets. We did notice the rear seat bottoms have started to lose their shape. For a detailed view of the cabin, please take a look at the extensive media.

Dashboard

The dashboard is covered in a black vinyl finish and presents the classic Porsche dials in front of the driver.

The dashboard in this 911 SC shows no signs of any major damage or scuffs, and no warning lights were displayed. The odometer showed a reading of ~83,975 miles during our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

An original leather-wrapped Porsche steering wheel is fitted. The steering wheel is in great condition, consistent with the mileage of this car, and the black leather gearstick looks good too. For a closer look, check out the image gallery to see the detail.

Mechanics

A naturally aspirated 3.0L flat-six engine that sounds incredible out on the open road.

Engine and Gearbox

The flat-six air-cooled engine from Porsche is regarded as a reliable and powerful unit. On the day of our visit, we started the car from cold on first attempt, and it performed well on the road. The engine pulled nicely, idled smoothly, and ran without fault.

Steve reports that the car starts from cold with no issues and drives well, with its smooth manual gearbox powering the rear wheels. Take a look at the mechanical video to see the car starting from cold, driving around, and for a closer look underneath the 911 and the smart engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension appears to be in good condition, providing a smooth journey on the sweeping Chepstow roads.

During our short drive in the car, it felt just as you'd expect for a sports car of this era, coming to a stop without a fuss too.

The Drive

Driving this 911 SC with the Targa top off is an absolute delight, offering an exhilarating and enjoyable experience. Steve has cherished taking the car out for short trips around his hometown, especially on sunny weekends.

Out on the road with Steve, the car felt solid and responsive, delivering ample power to handle the journey effortlessly. We also didn’t detect any unusual noises from the engine or suspension, further adding to the confidence-inspiring drive.

Electrics and Other

We didn’t have the opportunity to test all the electrics during our visit, but Steve confirms that, to the best of his knowledge, everything is in full working order, in keeping with the car’s overall condition. The vehicle is also equipped with a VDO stereo unit.

History and Paperwork

In ownership with the current custodian for ~17 years, this car has been garaged and cherished over the years.

The car is coming out of ~17 years of ownership with Steve. It has retained its originality, with the desirable 3.0L air-cooled flat-six engine. The car comes with a black Targa top, 16" black Fuchs wheels, and is finished in Guards Red paintwork. Take a look at the history and paperwork media to see the previous MOT reports, servicing, and parts this 911 SC has received over its life. Although exempt, the 911 SC comes with a current MOT valid until 14.03.2026.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
