Introduction

Colin Bashford
Professional Consigner

A superb SC in a period colour with a top end engine rebuild and having been subtly tweaked by its owner over a ten year period.

Launched in 1978, the SC (Super Carrera) replaced the previous Carrera 3.0 model and it features a lighter aluminium engine initially producing ~180bhp. Later models, like the one offered here, benefited from a power hike up to ~201bhp. Production of the SC ran until 1983 with its replacement, the Carrera 3.2, subsequently launched in 1984.

This particular SC is a 1982 model and comes to market after ~10 years ownership with Andy - he has made a few subtle tweaks as some of you eagle-eyed 911 fanatics would have already seen. Andy has done a lot of work to the car himself including changing the engine lid to a cleaner chrome grille version without the 'whale tail'.

Don't worry though, after replacing various parts of the car including door handles and headlight surrounds, Andy has kept all the original parts, including the whale tail, which will be sold with the car.

The SC comes with a fresh MOT valid until 30.07.2024.

This listing was written from information supplied by Colin after meeting Andy the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The SC has everything you expect from a 911; the looks, sound and prowess.

Andy had been looking for a 911 for a while and when he spotted this SC example on the net one night, well he loved the look of it - a quick deal was done and a few days later the car appeared on his driveway!

Originally coming with a whale tail, Andy preferred a cleaner look to the rear, so he fitted a different engine cover, he still has the original whale tail and various other original parts which will be sold with the car, including: door handles; headlight surrounds; front valance and fog-lights.

Andy has enjoyed taking the car for blasts in the countryside around Aberdeen, however, more recently he decided to put the car up for auction with us, as he is not using it as often as he would like. And would like someone else to have the same enjoyment out of the car as he has had and he will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The unmistakable silhouette of the 911, with its circular headlights and Fuchs wheels - it really is an icon in the motoring world.

Wheels and Tyres

The Fuchs wheels, finished in satin black with a polished rim looked in great condition - we didn't notice any damage or corrosion on any of the wheels.

A full matching set of Bridgestone Potenza S-03 were found on the wheels, all looked in great condition too with plenty of tread still on them.

Please have a look at the photos and video below to asses the condition of the wheels and tyres for yourself.

Bodywork

The classic lines of the body looked in great condition, doors closed well with tight gaps, Andy told us that he has replaced the hinge pins and seals on the door, meaning a bit more force was needed to close the doors.

We didn't notice any dents, other damage or any corrosion around the body of the SC.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The black paint looked to be in top shape, with no visible signs of scratches noticed on our visit. Andy told us the car had a respray in its lifetime, and it really does look like a quality job was done at the time.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass was in great condition too, we didn't notice any chips or cracks in any of the glass, the electric windows were also working as expected.

Andy had changed some of the original trim pieces from black to chrome these included, door handles, rear grille and headlight surrounds. All of the chrome work looked in great condition with not pitting etc noticed.

Please view the photos and video below to review the condition of the glass and trim for yourself.

Interior

With its Prototipo steering wheel, Mono gearstick and fire extinguisher in the passenger footwell, this SC feels ready for some spirited driving.

Seats and Carpets

As to be expected, the full black leather seats were showing signs of age, with some larger creases in the bolsters, but they still looked in decent condition otherwise.

The carpets looked clean, and in very nice condition.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to decide on the condition of the seats and carpets for yourself.

Dashboard

A simple yet effective dashboard greets the driver, all the information you need is right in front of you.

A modern Alpine CD player has been fitted into the dash.

The roof lining looked to have a few stained areas on it - it's nothing major but worth a mention.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather clad, three pronged Prototipo steering wheel looked in great condition with very little signs of use - of course it's not original but it really is a quality fitment that suits the car, and heightens the driving experience.

The Momo gear stick also looked to be in great condition too, showing very little signs of wear.

Please take a look at the photos and video below to check the condition of the steering wheel and gear stick for yourself.

Mechanics

A naturally aspirated 3.0L flat-six engine that sounds fantastic with bullet proof reliability.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.0L flat-six fired up first time with no issues; it sounded great too. On the short trip with Andy it never missed a beat either, with no unwanted noises heard too.

Importantly, please see the invoice in the media pack from RPM, a well regarded Porsche 911 specialist, for a top end engine rebuild - this was completed back in 2014, but according to the mileage records the car has only travelled around ~4k miles in this time.

The gearbox worked well and there's also an invoice from RPM for work carried out on it back in 2014 too.

Please take a look at the cold start video below to see for yourself the performance of the engine and gearbox.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension felt great on our run, we didn't witness any unusual or unwanted noises coming from the suspension whilst on the road. The ride felt compliant, handling bumps with ease.

We didn't do an emergency stop brake test, but they did feel good in every day driving.

Please take a look at the on the road video below to see how the suspension and brakes performed.

The Drive

As mentioned above the engine and gearbox performed well on the road, there was plenty of power on tap, especially getting into the higher rev band. The gearbox may take a little bit of time to learn, but is very satisfying when you know it.

The suspension felt good in the road too, with no buffeting or harshness noticed, braking felt sharp with no pulls or steering wobble to note.

To see the SC in motion please take a look at the on the road video below.

Electrics and Other

We tried most of the electrics in the car with everything we tested working as expected, those were; the clocks, windows and sunroof.

The radio was turned down but Andy confirms it does work.

History and Paperwork

A lot of work has been carried out in the 10 years Andy has owned the SC, from an engine rebuild to a full 'glass out' respray.

Only covering ~5,000 miles in his ownership, Andy has kept the car running and on the road, with yearly MOTs.

The car comes with all the receipts from the major work carried out, as well as the original Porsche service book.

Andy has provided some photos from when the car was getting resprayed.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Andy

Lovely car. I have a few questions>>>

I’m trying to understand the service history. No service history since 2001?
No oil changes, filters?
Has there been a cam-belt change? Was this in 2014?

No service history since the top-end rebuild either? I know the mileage is low but it’s getting close to 10 years now? What work has there been on engine maintainence?

What about the bottom end? Has there been leak-down test or compression testing? Any servicing since 2001?

They more you can share the more helpful this will be.

Thanks
David

Thanks very much Andy, appreciate the detailed information.

Are there receipts for this work? I didn’t see anything in the document files and there is nothing showing on the service history shown here. Did you do this work yourself?

Also, there is a mention of leaking at the lower casing (by RPM when they did the top end rebuild). Can you comment on the amount of oil leaking please. Has this stayed the same since 2014 or worsenned?

Thanks very much,
David

Hi Andy, I don’t believe L703 was a colour option for the SC, as nice as it is that’s what was confusing me looking at the pictures. Is it listed on any of the original documents you have? I don’t mean any offence but my bid would be different for a car in the original colour. Thanks

Hi Andy, please can I ask a few questions regarding the re-spray?

From the pictures the car looks a very dark grey metallic not black, what was the original colour and what colour is the re-spray?

Was the re-spray done during your ownership?

Was the job bare metal or just a refresh?

Have you had the wings or quarters off or seen the condition of the chassis during your ownership?

Cheers
