Introduction

Dom Ginn
Professional Consigner

With its 3.2L flat-six engine and iconic body styling, it's an iconic sports car by all accounts.

The Porsche 911 has long been recognised as one of the most iconic and influential sports cars in recent history, with its instantly recognisable styling, low driving position, and precision engineering - it’s easy to see why. 1984 brought us the replacement for the SC or "Super Carrera" which was the Porsche 911 Carrera (3.2). A claimed 80% new engine brought a higher displacement over the previous 3.0L engine. New inlet and exhaust manifolds, together with the crankshafts from the 1978 Turbo 3.3, and increased compression ratio, boosted the 911 to ~228 BHP from factory.

This example finished in Porsche's iconic "Ruby Red Metallic" over burgundy interior, comes in the most desirable coupe form with sunroof. It is coming to market from the executor of the previous owners Will, with the proceeds going to Alzheimer's Society and Cancer Research UK charities, having been with the former late keeper for ~2 years. It appears to be a largely original car, looking at the paperwork in the extensive history file, with an estimated ~£6,000 having been spent on work as needed over the last ~2.5 years. All that is needed now is for a new owner to enjoy it.

This listing was written from information supplied by Dom after meeting Sandra, the Will executor, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It's one of those cars that was a lifelong dream for Adrian to own, a beautiful car that needs to find the right home for the future.

We met with Sandra, the executor of the previous owner's estate. Sandra lets us know "I've been a long term friend of Adrian who sadly is no longer with us. As part of his will, Adrian had requested that the proceeds from the estate sale were passed equally to the Alzheimer's Society and Cancer Research UK charities".

Sandra tells us "I know that Adrian was a firm fan of all things Porsche, this one was one of his dream cars to own, it's a shame he didn't get much of a chance to really enjoy it". Naturally, there is only so much that Sandra can help in terms of questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

With stand out 80's styling, exceptional bodywork, and classic colour, this Porsche 911 turns heads wherever it goes.

Wheels and Tyres

The original 16" Fuchs alloy wheels, that came with the "Sport", finished with black centres and chrome lips. All appeared to be in great condition, we didn’t notice any major damage, just the occasional age-related scratch here and there.

A full set of Bridgestone S-02 tyres were found on the car, with a spec of 205/55 fitted to the front and 225/50 at the rear. All tyres appeared to be in good visual condition with no initial concerns about the remaining tread. Take a look through the pictures to see the detail.

Bodywork

The bodywork of the 911 appeared to be in very good condition. Both doors, the front boot, and the engine bay opened and closed as expected. The panel gaps were well-aligned, and we didn’t notice any visible signs of corrosion or dents on any of the panels. Looking through the historical invoices the car likely saw some work to the sills in the early 2000s, and given that the car has only covered ~10,000 miles since, it explains the condition.

We've highlighted our observations in more detail through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take the time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Ruby Red Metallic" (L810) is a beautiful colour that brings the 80's style of the car to life. The coverage is nice and even across the car with no noted differences in colour and overall presents to a great standard. We did note that there are some stone chips on the bonnet and a couple of marks to the rear section. There was also a note of some wear to the exterior A-pillar on the drivers side, although we had to look fairly closely to spot these points. There was a notable scuff to the offside wing mirror.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windscreen, side windows, mirrors and lenses all appear in great condition and we could see no sign of scratching or chips on the glass.

The seals look good around the car and in line with the rest of the condition. Rubber sections on the interior edges looked good and only showed a few signs of age related wear which is to be expected. Badges and emblems are present and correct. Take a look through the exterior gallery and review the video. We take you across all areas of the car as if you were standing there yourself, so you can see in greater detail how the car is presented.

Interior

With its original burgundy leather and fabric upholstery, this 911 offers a comfortable and well equipped interior.

Seats and Carpets

The 911 is equipped with burgundy leather and striped burgundy cloth combination seats. These were in great condition, with limited signs of wear. The rear seats are also in great shape, with no concerning issues noted.

The car comes with burgundy main floor carpet and Porsche mats overlayed. The floor areas in both the cabin and front boot are in great condition. The roof lining was showing well, again no major concerns here. We cover the cabin area of the Porsche in more detail in our interior review video. The passenger side door compartment lid looks like it is in need of straightening out as pictured.

Dashboard

The black dials with red needles looked great and were all functioning as expected when we visited the car. The odometer read ~95,567 at the time of our visit. The main burgundy leather dash is showing in great condition, belying the age of the car.

The dials, switches, and controls all appear to be in great condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original Porsche branded steering wheel is a simple setup, and looks in excellent condition. The gloss black gearstick was in great shape, with only mild signs of use and numbers clearly legible on the gear stick. The stick and rubber gaiter also showed well.

Mechanics

Powered by the naturally aspirated 3.2L flat-six engine, the 911 produces ~228 BHP, it also offers the only soundtrack you will ever need!

Engine and Gearbox

Having travelled ~95,567 miles over its ~40 years on the road, the engine worked without issue, and started with no hesitation during our cold start video, idling predictably.

The car is equipped with a manual 915 gearbox, we were unable to take the car out on the road during our visit as the MOT expired in May and the car is not insured for use by Sandra. We didn’t notice any unwanted noises coming from the car on startup or tick-over, and the car was fine for manoeuvring around the property. Please take a look at the cold start video below to see and hear the engine.

Suspension and Brakes

Looking through the paperwork, you'll see the brakes have seen attention in the early 2023 by Porsche specialists, Type 911.

We cover the underside of the Porsche in more detail in our 'Mechanical Review' video.

The Drive

Although we were unable to fully appreciate the Porsche on the road, we noted no concerning issues manoeuvring the car to take the exterior photographs.

The 911 is renowned for its driving experience, not only this, but the air cooled 3.2 engine is something that every petrolhead should get the opportunity to enjoy.

Electrics and Other

The 911 featured few electrical components, and although we didn’t test everything on the day, we checked the sunroof was operating as expected. The 911 Carrera features a Blaupunkt cassette / radio in the dashboard area.

During our time with the vehicle we noticed no electrical faults, with all lights, gauges, clocks working as expected. All switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and are in great condition. The Porsche is complete with a branded toolkit and Porsche leather wrap which was purchased in March 2022. A spare wheel is located in the front boot.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~2 years from the late owner, it presents in beautiful condition with just a few marks in line with age and use, and optioned as a Carrera Sport from factory in a classic specification.

The Porsche carries a great deal of service history from its time on the road, although it is notable that very few miles have been driven in the 911 over the past few years, only ~6,348 miles have been covered in the last ~10 years. An estimated ~£6,000 has been spent on the car in the last ~2.5 years.

Some of the servicing covered in recent years covers off; replacement indicator stalk and relays in September 2023, new lip spoiler bracket and door lock barrel and keys in August 2023, updated black trim for the headlight unit and headlight rim replacement in July 2023, new front indicator and door handle trigger in June 2023.

New front brake pads and wear sensor in May 2023, replacement CV joints, rear disc brake plates and handbrake fitting kit and shoe set in April 2023, a fuel injector seal kit in August 2022, a replacement 911 distributor cap, 6 new spark plugs, ignition lead set, gearbox mount, and rotor arm in May 2022. A new rear bumper and valance seal in April 2022, a replacement Porsche classic toolkit, door lock striker plates, rear valance panel and 2 rear metal unit lights fitted in March 2022 and a new washer pump, heater hose, heater control box, and rocker cover gasket set in February 2022.

Minor servicing, gear linkage and clutch spring carried out in April 2009, replacement works were completed for a new exhaust, replacement of corroded parts, cross pipe, rear exhaust box in August 2005 and 2 new tyres were replaced in July 2005. New rear brake discs and oil cooler pipes were replaced in May 2003 and a new clutch assembly and flywheel was fitted in April 1999. We cover the full history included with the Porsche in our paperwork gallery section for more details.

The proceeds from the sale will be shared equally towards Alzheimer's Society and Cancer Research UK by the executors of the Will.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a history check on the vehicle - this is a professional check operated by HPI that will highlight if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or have any outstanding finance - note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
