Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Built in limited numbers by Porsche due to customer demand, this a rare UK RHD Slantnose, a sorted restored example.

The words ‘Limited run Porsche’ is music to many Porsche collectors ears. This 1986 911 Turbo Flatnose (or Flachbau if you want to be Teutonic about it) is a perfect example of that. Influenced by the 935 racer, a road-legal version was commissioned using the 911 (930 Series) Turbo as the base with 935 front panels grafted onto it. Not surprisingly it commanded a weighty price hike over the standard 911 Turbo, thanks in part to its handcrafted front wings and the numerous option list.

With the cars limited build number and claim to be the fastest of the 930 series cars (uprated "WLS" engine to 330BHP and of course the aerodynamics), the model has become something of a legend in 911 circles, with original cars with proof of Porsche authenticity becoming very sought after. We are very excited to auction this genuine UK car with impeccable history, presented in excellent condition having been restored.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn Parry after meeting Andrew the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I knew the previous owner and I have had this car on my radar for several years.

Having bought the car back in 2014, Andrew has now made the almost unthinkable decision to split ways with the car now. As you’ll soon discover, he has invested a lot of time and money on getting this car up to an exceptionally high level. He cites the reason due to the cars lack of use and feels it deserves to be enjoyed.

Andrew has several other Porsches under his wing, so rest assured you’ll not have to prise the keys out of his hands, should you become the new owner of this very unique car.

Exterior

A 911 Turbo Flatnose, the opportunity to go through this car with a fine-tooth comb was indeed a privilege and honour.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are in exceptional condition, with no marks, signs of kerbing or dents. The tyres are all Continental and date from 2015/2016 and show well above legal tread pattern.

So often you see these cars sitting on aftermarket wheels, or incorrect sizing etc. This example importantly sitting on the rear Fuchs, size 245/45 ZR16's.

Bodywork

The car was completely restored in 2014-2016. As a result the bodywork is straight and true, confirmed by the equal door shut lines and panel gaps. The sunroof is a factory-fitted item and is functional.

What gives the car that seal of confidence over and above the documented condition is that previous work has been signed off by body repair audit by Porsche GB. Take a look through the images and videos detailing condition.

Paint

The meteor metallic paint is exceptional, with a deep gloss and perfect coverage across the whole car. Needless to say, there are no scratches or rust evident on the car, including the underside or within the engine and boot areas. When the car was restored, any trim etc was removed for the paint along with all the windows and seals.

One area that is the result of a minor mishap is a small mark on the offside lower underside section behind the rear wheel. It has had a temporary repair but certainly cannot be noticed unless pressed to.

Glass and Trim

There are no signs of significant damage on the glass, with the rubber trim in good order. External fittings are all in good condition, with the ‘tea tray’ spoiler trim and the rear bumpers are in excellent condition, as are the cars air intakes.

The headlamps and rear lights are uncracked and show no sign of discolouration or fade. The front bumper has two screw holes on the rubber, which is likely to have been as a result of the previous number plate.

Interior

The seats and interior as a whole are typically in line with the age of the car, they do show patina and use but are free from rips and significant damage.

Seats and Carpets

Both front seats are listed as factory enhancements items, with functioning electric height adjustments. Deeper sports bolsters on this example, and finished in a "two tone brown" colourway.

The carpets are deep pile, with a luscious texture and as a result, are in good condition and add a little '80s plushness to the interior. The headlining is also very good, no rips, discolouration or sagging.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in excellent condition, with no cracks, just minor signs of age and have no aftermarket drill holes or perishing.

The "Special Order Wishes" nature of this vehicle means that there are few elements that differ from a standard 911 Turbo (Type 930); SOW 123 - Centre Console Type "B", SOW 140 - Fold down cassette holders.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The Flachbau Turbo's featured a unique steering wheel (SOW 115), 3 spoke in design and plush leather centre in matching brown finish.

The steering wheel is original and in good condition with the gear nob being a replacement item from the original (recently re-trimmed in matching brown leather).

Mechanics

Featuring and uprated 330BHP unit from the Porsche WLS (Werksleistungssteigerung), the Flachbau was the fastest 911 Turbo available.

Engine and Gearbox

The 3.3L version of the Turbo engine was a WLS variant from factory, pushing out extra BHP and torque compared to the standard 930 block/set-up.

The gearbox is a standard 930 item, and according to the factory spec list, the car is also fitted with a limited-slip differential. The general condition of the engine is good, with the knowledge that the car has had extensive Porsche servicing work throughout its life. The aftermarket exhaust is in good working order.

Suspension and Brakes

During the restoration process, all of the bushes were replaced on the car, and the car has travelled under 5,000 miles since.

The suspension and dampers are said to be in good condition, with no issues to be reported. The brakes have benefited from regular maintenance and have plenty of life in them.

The Drive

With around 330BHP on tap, the 911 Turbo Slantnose was a well-respected machine and considered a genuine supercar. Time has not diminished its impact, and the Slantnose exhibits all of the classic characteristics of the 911 Turbo with a little extra sting.

The cars direct steering, agile character and that familiar rear squat as you accelerate is what makes these cars special, you still need to respect the laws of physics but the 911 Turbo's image as the widow maker is a little overplayed.

Electrics and Other

All tested and tried, and there are no issues with the electrics. There is a couple of interest period touches from past ownerships, including a mobile phone ariel and period Blaupunkt CD stereo upgrade, but we can assume those are really of limited interest.

The more important functions such as the electric motor for the windows, the switchgear and lighting are all fully functional.

History and Paperwork

Comprehensive history folder and provenance documents coupled with the restored condition have to make this one of the best UK RHD Porsche 911 Turbo Flatnose on the market.

The paperwork for this car is as important as the general condition, as it has letters of authenticity and documentation to single out this example as a UK RHD model with the SOW items specified from new. As to be expected, it was well used in its first two decades of life but also regularly serviced at Porsche service centres.

We've actioned our usual checks on this car; Seller ID, V5C, HPi check.

Good morning
Can you let me know the chassis and engine numbers please?
When the car was rebuilt, who did the bodywork? Was it mechanically rebuilt at the same time, and if so, who by?
Out of interest, is this the SE previously owned by David Sparrow?

Chassis number is WP0ZZZ93ZGS001116
Engine number is 67G01191
The bodywork and panel off re-spray was carried out by Yaman Autos in Konya in Turkey. All removable panels were removed.
The engine was stripped, rebuilt and reinstalled shortly prior to the repaint by my Porsche specialist brother from Alpha Motors in Cyprus who had been servicing and maintaining this vehicle for many years, which is how it came to be on my radar.
I have no previous ownership documents that refer to a David Sparrow.
