Introduction
Matt Nolan
Porsche's first front-engined, rear-wheel drive, water-cooled sports car - this 'S' variant is a well-kept secret and a deceptively quick classic.
The 924 was originally introduced in 1976 and enjoyed a 12-year production run resulting in over 150,000 cars produced. Porsche focused on improving aerodynamics which lead to the flat bonnet, pop up headlights and an attractive yet purposeful rear spoiler. The car set a new direction for the company by using a water-cooled, front-mounted engine for the first time.
In 1986 we saw the release of the 924S which introduced the 2.5L four-cylinder in-line engine, from the 944 along with the braking system. The 2.5L in-line four developed ~150BHP which was further increased to ~160BHP from 1988.
Finished in arguably the best and most iconic specification from the factory, with its Guards Red coachwork and flannel interior. Kenneth is the second owner of the car and purchased it all the way back in 1989. With a documented history and long ownership, and the car presenting in lovely condition considering the miles, we think this a cracking example coming to market.

Hi Kenneth,
I see some broken paint and surface rust on the sills where the car has been jacket up on, can you confirm the sills are solid?
Thanks for your question. Having just looked at and felt the sills, they are solid; if they were not, I would have been told at the last MOT.
Hi Kenneth,
Could you please tell me when the most recent cambelt &water
pump change was regards Buzz’
Hallo Buzz,
In August 2007 my Porsche mechanics replaced the cam belt and, while the front of the engine was off, also took the opportunity of replacing all 4 front pulley seals, water pump, all 4 tensioner and idler pulleys, cam belt, balance belt and both ancillary belts. This was at 75,069 miles, a little over 14,000 miles ago.

Hi Kenneth your car looks lovely can you tell me if sills have been replaced or if car has had any welding ?
Thanks
Crispin
Sills are original and in first class condition, like the rest of the car. No welding torch has ever been near it.
Hi Kenneth,
Lovely looking car, obviously been very well looked after. I see there is mention of some rear accident damage in the paperwork. Was this just to the bumper or was there any damage to the bodywork?
Also, do you know what the original purchase price was?
Kind regards,
Martin
Hallo Martin. Sorry this morning’s reply didn’t reach you. In 2004, in a stationary traffic queue, the driver behind me let her foot off the clutch and her car nudged into mine, damaging the (non-metal) bumper. In addition to the new bumper, the bill says ‘realign o/s bodywork adjacent to bumper mounting’. That’s all I know!
I don’t know what the original purchase price was, as Porsche Cars Great Britain sold it to themselves for their parts manager to use, but I paid £19,000 for it 11 months later, with 7,380 miles on the clock. Hope this helps.
