Introduction
Jacob Boodrie
The iconic 911 with the desirable naturally aspirated 3.2L block, coupled to the sought-after G50 gearbox - this is the classic many want to own.
First created in 1984, the 'Supersport', 'M491', commonly known as the 'Turbo Look' made a gracious entrance to the streets. The changes to the 911 were not light, the Supersport saw widebody modifications, and performance enhancements shared with the 930 Turbo, these were a stiffer suspension set-up and bigger and more powerful braking system with wider wheels for added grip. Sales of the Supersport were particularly strong in America when it was first released, as the 911 Turbo was not available for purchase for the first couple of years. It wasn’t just customers in the USA who bought this option though, this is an all-original UK RHD drive example.
This UK RHD Targa variant finished in black over white leather interior has been in the hands of car enthusiast Simon for the past year. The 3.2 has recently benefited from a high standard complete engine rebuild and detailing work, along with extensive specialist service history to maintain the example you see before you.

Hello Simon, absolutely beautiful car. I’m carrying out some basic checks. Plate as shown on V5 as shown in details supplied F177 HWT….also A20 HL shown when the engine removed. I know this is an auction so just a little bit more risk my end involved, having said that TRADECLASSICS have been very thorough. However because of the high values I feel it’s wise. HPI confirm more than ten previous owners (14) so advise chassis number and log book number checks. Two ways to do that, either, if possible please give me the info by phone or on here (probs not wise or able) or get a full HPI check yourself and send me and anyone else watching the results (only £30)…or of course, ignore my request, which would be a shame as the cars stunning, but I can t proceed further without additional info/checks. I’m a private buyer Simon, (in Cornwall) not a business Always wanted a Supersport, currently got a normal 85 targa, also lovely. Either way, appreciate your time, thanks – Jerry
I’m sure you will understand that I can’t publish the V5 reference number and also will not give over the phone. I have just supplied Trade Classics with some extra pictures which show the VIN stamped into the chassis. I notice you are in Cornwall and the car is only in Plymouth so maybe you could just drop up and have a look…….
If you need anything else let me know
Hi Simon and Trade classics, extra info much appreciated thanks. Re-checking on HPI, chassis number not matching plate? WPO22291ZKS140619 not matching F177 HWJ, not sure why this is folks? I can see on V5 doc that it states they should match same. I see now someone’s above me in bidding, unfortunately time also now too short to visit car….
Can’t answer that one unfortunately as all the checks we have done including with Porsche prove it is spot on…..
All understood. Undoubtedly a beautiful car. Possibly an issue my end with HPI. Good luck. Thanks for your time.
Hi Jerry001, pretty sure it’s because you are writing it wrong. O in the place of 0, and 2 in the place of Z. The chassis number is “WP0ZZZ91ZKS140619”. Best, Kulraj – Trade Classics
Hi Jerry, we’ve uploaded the pictures of the chassis number to the “History” gallery, https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/porsche/1989-porsche-911-supersport-targa-2/#gallery5-34 Hope that helps. Best, Kulraj – Trade Classics
We’ve also uploaded the inside of the V5 if that’s helpful; https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/porsche/1989-porsche-911-supersport-targa-2/#gallery5-2 Best, Kulraj – Trade Classics
Hi Simon
Could you tell me if the car has had its kidney bowls done and if the car has been resprayed or re trimmed at any point please.
Thanks
Kul
Hi,
I don’t know what Kidney Bowls are….. however the trim is recent and with regards to a respray, I don’t think so, but I am sure it has had some paint in its time. See the pictures for quality…..
Hi again,
I now know what Kidney Bowls are on a 911….. all I can say is there is (to me) no evidence to suggest they have or they are needed…… I have had the car inspected by 3 separate reputable Specialists who have not mentioned this as an issue.
