Introduction

Kulraj Singh Salh
COO

The 911 in its pure form; air cooled flat 6, rear wheel drive, manual.

Coming from 20 years ownership, and just one previous owner before the current, this Porsche 911 (Type 964) Carrera 2 has a full history file detailing the cars entire life. This coupe has been used as it was originally intended, and cared for too, we were particularly impressed with the underside of the car which you can see in the mechanics section.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Kulraj after meeting Tim the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I only intended to keep the car for 3 years, but now the time really has come to part ways.

Much like the emission standards that evolved the 3.2L flat 6 from the impact bumper era of 911's to the 3.6L twin-spark that is found in this 964 C2, Tim has been forced in to the sale of his Porsche with the upcoming ULEZ charges coming in to play in London.

It's definitely a begrudging sale, we could tell when discussing the car with him, although he never intended to keep the car for this long he has thoroughly enjoyed it putting some 100,000 miles in. He isn't venturing in to the world of green/electric cars as replacement, he's sticking with Porsche and will be upgrading to a Type 991 that will meet the emission standard but still allow him to enjoy that 911 experience he loves.

Exterior

Guards Red, narrow bodied, coupe with sunroof, a classic combination.

Wheels and Tyres

Sitting on Porsche Design 90 wheels, and wearing Michelin tyres all around, the stock look suits this Carrera 2.

The wheels generally look in good condition not suffering from corrosion, although there is some curbing on the outer rims on a couple of the wheels. The tyres look great across all the wheels, having been fitted just ~2,500 miles ago.

Bodywork

The narrow body design, in coupe format like this example, is the silhouette that's familiar to all when it comes to the 911. Some design changes like colour coded bumpers took the car a step forward in terms of looks.

This example, we were particularly impressed with the bodywork. Tim has put many miles on the car, but panel gaps and shut-lines across the car are great. We didn't observe any corrosion in the bodywork, and were particularly impressed with the underside of the car. Not even surface rust visible on the jacking points etc. We think the bonnet needs a slight adjustment to make it fit that bit more flush but other than that it is a stunning example.

Paint

Finished in the classic 911 colour of Guards Red, the car had a full windows out respray in 2012 when it had covered ~75,000 miles, the reason why the paint still looks that bright red colour.

The finish and colour is even across all the panels on the car, as can be seen in the variety of pictures and videos taken from all angles. With the car having covered some 40,000 miles since the re-spray, it is wearing some marks you'll see when inspecting the car; some stone chips peppered on the front end, some scratches on the rear bumper along with some crazing of the paint on the rear offside bumper corner. Watch the video review and take a look through the extensive media pack to see the detail.

Glass and Trim

The glass on the car looks great, and the rubber seals and trim also looking very good.

Tim has ordered a pair of new clear indicator lenses for the front of the car. The rear nearside quarter window frame could do with repainting in black where the paint has lifted in a couple of spots.

Interior

Full leather interior with matching carpets in burgundy, the classic 911 layout.

Seats and Carpets

Optioned sports seats, electric adjustable, along with the deeper bolsters to keep both the driver and passenger in the front firm in position.

The car is finished in burgundy leather along with matching coloured carpets. The interior was refreshed in 2015, keeping the original colour scheme in place. The seats look great, just a bit of age related marks on them having covered around 20,000 miles since the refresh. Take a look at the images to see the detail.

Dashboard

The dashboard is wrapped in matching burgundy leather, it looks great with no marks or issues when we photographed the car.

The dials are the classic arrangement we've come to love in a Porsche 911, rev counter in the centre, all of the instrument panel looks fresh.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The classic Porsche steering wheel also wrapped in matching burgundy leather, and matching leather gaiter for the gear stick too. The steering wheel had new leather re-stitched on in 2015, the gear stick has just some small age related marks that you'd expect.

Mechanics

Regular servicing its whole life, and an engine rebuild at ~67,000 miles.

Engine and Gearbox

A twin-spark flat 6 3.6L engine in this car, emission regulations meant a number of changes such as this for the 964.

Tim commissioned an engine rebuild in 2010 in line with the recommended guidance. Along with this work, a new clutch was fitted too, leaving the car to perform just as you'd expect.

Suspension and Brakes

Coilover MacPherson struts were introduced in to the chassis set-up of the 911 with the Type 964. The car also featured ABS for the first time.

Tim has kept the car serviced on schedule throughout his ownership, over the past 5 years various work on the brake calipers and brake lines have kept the car stopping as it should.

The Drive

247BHP pushed out from the engine to the rear wheels alone, this car has a LSD fitted too, it's the classic 911 set-up.

The car drives and handles just as it should according to Tim, and had a new steering rack fitted late in 2010. It sounds great too, a new exhaust back box was fitted to the car in August.

Electrics and Other

This car was optioned with cruise control, along with air-conditioning too. Tim informs us that everything is working just as you'd expect. He's ordered a new control stick for the electric wing-mirror control.

The car also has AudioVOX installed, allowing connection of your phone via bluetooth to the audio head unit.

History and Paperwork

A full service history, important major works completed in line with the recommended schedule, and just one previous owner.

Tim purchased this car back in 1999, from the original owner, with the car having covered ~7,000 miles. Coming with the original stamped service book, and invoices from every year from Tim, this car has been well cared for.

The car comes with 2 sets of keys and remotes, and importantly also the master remote fob too. Original manuals and leather wallet from Porsche, similarly the leather toolkit and Porsche air-compressor for the spare wheel are with the car.

The car has 12 months MOT on a clean advisory free test at the start of August.

Tim,

Car looks immaculate and presents very very well from the pictures.

Just have a couple of questions:

– in 1998 there is a R+R flywheel item on the service record, does the car still have the original and notorious FB fly wheel or has it been changed for the newer LUK item?

– Has the vehicle ever had any accident damage

– Has the vehicle been garaged?

– Are all electrics working as they should?

Thanks

Jonny

Thanks Tim,

I would concur with you regarding e DMF as the more reliable unit was released in circa 92 so would have been updated before you purchased the car.

Regarding my other points, thanks for your responses.

One final point is the rear lights and centre reflector, are these original items as they almost look tinted and less red then others I’ve seen, could just be fading?

Cheers

Jonny

Thanks Tim,

Final one from me regarding the LSD, was it rebuilt at the time of the engine rebuild in 2010?

Also other than the secondary back box are there any other aftermarket items on the car?

Thanks for the quick replies

Jonny
