Introduction

Darren Rungasmay
Professional Consigner

The last of the "G bodied" 911's, this example benefits from all-wheel drive and a cabriolet soft-top.

There is nothing like driving a 911 around and the 964 is no exception.

Along with a revised, much-improved suspension than its predecessor, the 964 came with a completely new automatic climate control system that provided enhanced heating and cooling in the cabin. Combined with the famous Porsche reliability, this car is eminently useable as well as being exceedingly good fun!

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Darren after having met James, the owner, whilst visiting and photographing the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I have taken the car out on sunny days, doing around 1,000 miles per year.

James has owned the car for around 10 years now and has loved every second of owning this classic 911.

He has always commissioned high-quality repairs when needed, including a full engine rebuild 5 years ago with Porsche West London after a small leak was discovered.

On top of this James has also had a clutch change, addressed some of the typical cosmetic weaknesses like the seats and carpets, and replaced the roof - as well as repairing the spoiler.

He is looking to sell the car now to fund a new Porsche Taycan. Exciting times!

Exterior

The body of the 911 is so appealing as it has barely changed from the first model. View the full condition in our videos and photos.

Wheels and Tyres

The wheels are in good condition for the car’s mileage but have experienced the odd scuff and a bit of kerb rash. They look smart from a standing distance though, and really showcase those lovely brake callipers.

The 911 sits on 2018 Pirelli P-Zero tyres with very good tread. The classic 5-spoke Porsche Cup wheels are always a delight to see on the roads.

Bodywork

With integrated bumpers and other wind tunnel-inspired tricks, the body was a great deal more aerodynamic than its predecessor.

There are some small signs of corrosion occurring on the front of the car, including on the leading edge of the bonnet. These are small areas around the size of a 5p coin. Take a look at the video to see the full condition.

Paint

The Baltic Blue Metallic Paint was first introduced on the 964's in 1990, the year this car was made.

The paintwork has an even finish and colour across the car. There are a few parking scrapes on the bumpers that you'll see in the pictures.

Glass and Trim

Both in very good condition across the car.

In line with the cars age, some of the light lenses have some small marks as pictured.

Interior

The classic feel of the car is by no means lost as you enter this special interior, which combines the feel of luxury with a clean, minimalistic vibe.

Seats and Carpets

James mentioned in his “Meet the Owner” video that he has had the seats and carpets repaired.

They now look fresh, but as you can see in the interior gallery, there is some surface rust under the carpets where they must have got wet at some point.

Dashboard

The dashboard looks original and very tidy for the car’s mileage.

Set in a complementary colour with the exterior, the seamless feel of the two adds to the minimalistic aesthetic of the car.

Steering Wheel and Gear Stick

Both in a good condition of a car this age.

Some stitching has loosened on the steering wheel but the leather looks good, much like the gear stick. Both look to be original.

Mechanics

At the time, the all-wheel-drive system was revolutionary at increasing traction and transferring power.

Engine and Gearbox

The 911 featured a naturally aspirated 3.6L boxer engine that produced an impressive 250 horsepower in a rear-wheel configuration.

Overall the engine bay is in good condition but would benefit from a clean by the new owner.

Suspension and Brakes

The 964 rode on a completely redesigned chassis, switching to trailing arms with Porsche’s “Weissach” rear axle, which added self-steering elements to reduce the prospect of oversteer.

The Drive

Many people hold the opinion that the 964 is much more lively to drive than its successor, the 993.

For example, the peak torque arrives 200rpm earlier than it does in the 993. As with any 911, this car is a delight to drive, feeling involving and raw compared to many modern cars.

Electrics and Other

James assures us that the car’s electrical features all function as expected.

The only exception can be seen in the photos, the nearside front indicator is not attached and will need to be replaced.

History and Paperwork

Please view all invoices from James' 9-year ownership in the gallery.

As you can see, James ordered a significant engine rebuild after having discovered an oil leak was discovered. Since then the car runs smoothly, as can be seen in the 'Engine Review' video.

This work, as well as other servicing prior to James' ownership, has been undertaken at the Porsche Centre West London.

Hi Ian – yes of course you are welcome to view the car if we can arrange with James. However, there are only a couple of days left on the auction so you’d have to be quick. Please just call the office as we’ll need to have a quick chat and take some details from you, including proof if ID. Then we’ll see if there are any viewing options in the time left. Alternatively if there are any photos / videos you are missing then please shout. Cheers Adam
