Introduction

Paul Wright
Professionaal Consigner

The best of the 944s, the S2 boasts a robust 3.0-litre engine, revised transmission, and wide styling, topped off with an electric convertible roof.

The 944 was first announced in 1982. It was a new front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, mid-level sports car based on the 924. Later, in 1989, Porsche introduced the S2, which shared the rounded nose and rear valance found on the Turbo model and featured the largest production 4-cylinder engine available at the time. A new gearbox was fitted to harness the ~208 BHP on offer and in manual form, like this example, it’s a proper drivers' car.

Coming from ~5 years of ownership with our vendor, this stunning 1990 944 S2 Cabriolet will most definitely create a stir in the market! With just ~11,967 miles covered, this is more than likely one of the lowest mileage and original 944s offered for sale at this moment in time, making it an ideal investment opportunity for any collector, or Porsche fan looking for something very special.

The 944 comes with a current MOT valid until 27.10.2025.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Graeme the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The opportunity to add such a low-mileage example to a collection just couldn’t be missed.

Graeme purchased this stunning 944 S2 Cabriolet from a specialist dealer around five years ago. Since then, the car has been used very little; as you can see from the extremely low mileage as Graeme was keen to preserve the stunning original condition you see here today.

With a house move to look forward to, Graeme has decided to part with his collection, leaving the 944 open for a new home.

Exterior

The 944 S2 received Turbo styling, giving it a smoother and more modern look.

Wheels and Tyres

The original ‘Design 90’ wheels are fitted, and they are in fantastic condition, as you would expect, with no signs of corrosion on the faces - the Porsche crest centre caps are also in excellent condition.

Dunlop SP Sport D40 tyres are fitted on each corner and are in excellent condition.

Please see the image gallery for a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

With just ~11,967 miles covered, the bodywork is excellent. We didn't notice any dings or dents to mention, and all the panel gaps match just as they left the factory.

The blue fabric roof is in superb condition and free from damage - it also operates as it should, going up and down with ease.

We’ve detailed our observations through high-resolution images and videos, so please review all the media files to assess the car’s condition.

Paint

Finished in the beautiful 'Tahoe Blue Metallic', the paintwork can only be described as fantastic - it has been cared for exceptionally well by its few previous owners.

Images taken from various angles provide a comprehensive view of the car. Please review these high-resolution images and videos to form your own opinion of the paint’s condition.

Glass and Trim

The windows are in good condition with no noticeable scratches to point out. The Porsche even has the original alarm stickers fitted to the side windows. The seals and trims look to be in good condition with no signs of perishing.

All the lights are in good condition, with no chips or cracks in the lenses, and the ultimate 80s styling pop-up headlights work correctly.

Interior

Linen-coloured leather is the perfect colour choice to complement the bright metallic exterior.

Seats and Carpets

The electric leather seats were specified with Linen-coloured leather with 'Marine Blue' piping. Both seats are working correctly and are in excellent condition. There are the tiniest marks on the driver’s bolster, but when you consider this is 34 years old with just ~11,967 miles, they would be described as superb.

The linen-coloured carpets match the seats, and a set of blue factory mats are also in good order. Inside the boot is in the same condition, with all the factory accessories present and correct. The door shuts also deserve mention; they are excellent and spotless, helping to show that the car is very original.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

Being the later 944, the dashboard is known as the ‘oval-style dash’, bringing a more modern, sleek look inside the 944.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original four-spoke leather steering wheel is in excellent condition, with no real signs of use, thanks to the extremely low mileage it has covered - the same can be said for the gear lever.

Mechanics

An impressive ~208 BHP is produced from the 3.0-litre engine, which was the largest four-cylinder engine manufactured at the time.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine starts without hesitation and runs with no issues reported. Looking around the engine bay, you will see that the condition is excellent and all original, with minimal signs of tarnishing to some of the zinc-plated parts.

The car’s five-speed transaxle gearbox makes the selection feel tight and precise, and no issues have been reported.

Suspension and Brakes

The 944 sits as it should, and no knocks or bangs have been reported to come from the suspension.

The brakes are in good order, with no sign of excessive wear to the discs. The black Porsche callipers also look in good condition and bring the car to a stop, as you would expect.

The Drive

The 944 S2 Convertible offers a thrilling driving experience that blends classic sports car charm with modern driving dynamics. The 3.0-litre engine delivers ample power for spirited driving, and this, coupled with the well-balanced chassis, creates a fantastic and exciting car with the added bonus of being a convertible.

We weren't able to take the car out on the road as it is currently on SORN, it is only driven during the Spring and Summer months, keeping it in top condition.

Electrics and Other

All the switchgear is in excellent condition and working correctly. There are electric windows, mirrors, and roof, and the boot can be opened at the touch of a button located in the driver’s footwell.

The Porsche also benefits from a genuine Porsche immobiliser, which was installed in 1994.

History and Paperwork

Even with just ~11,967 miles covered, the 944 has been taken for an MOT almost every single year.

Included with the Porsche is the original bill of sale, two key sets with immobiliser fobs, the original owner’s handbook, and the service book, which has seven service stamps plus three long-life inspection stamps. In addition, there are several invoices for MOTs carried out and batteries fitted over the years, but the icing on the cake for any history file is that all the MOT certificates are present.

This is undoubtedly a super-rare example with exceptionally low mileage and in all-original condition. It is perfect for the Porsche fanatic looking for the ultimate low-mileage 944 S2 Cabriolet. Please note that registration number 944 X is NOT included in the sale.

We’ve conducted our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and also actioned a history check on the vehicle. This is a professional check by HPI that highlights if the car has been previously stolen, recorded as being in an accident, or has any outstanding finance. Note, this does not include a mileage history check.

We've summarised our view of the car based on information from the seller above. As you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in high-resolution detail—this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. Please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything in this listing to assess the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed for all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time—we just need to speak to you first and receive valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you’re unsure about, no matter how small, please ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bids, as bids can’t be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car—just like in a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
