Introduction
Darren Rungasamy
The 993 is widely regarded as the pinnacle of the air-cooled Porsche evolution - and what an example we have here for you.
The ultimate version of the air-cooled 911 dynasty arrived in 1993, but despite its familiar power plant, it was a new car from the ground up. For many purists, the 993 is the one to have, combining the original ethics of the 911 dart-like playfulness, with the added confidence of its reassuring multi-link rear suspension.
Serving as a fine entry point to those who often wondered what all the fuss is about, the Carrera, which retains the classic RWD layout is enhanced by its modernised detailing, giving the coupe a much more contemporary appearance. A refined yet genuinely sporting driving experience, the 993 flew the flag almost single-handedly for Porsche before the generation of water-cooled Porsches took on the baton.
This beautifully presented 1997 Tiptronic Carrera 2 has seen just three previous owners and is one of the later examples of the model. Displaying a recorded mileage of only 79,196 miles, it comes complete with an excellent record of stamps and evidence of a £3,700 bill for engine maintenance two years ago, the car has just seen a service and has an MOT to March 2023.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Michael the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

My neighbours car! I have a c4 in arena red also, so I won’t be bidding!
Its a beautiful original example. I’ve inspected it and we’ve chatted over it more times than I care to mention. Its not crash damaged as suggested. It only goes out when it’s dry. I always look out of the office window when he starts it up.
Hi Michael,
I’ve looked closely again at the pictures and I believe I can answer my first question. The car does show signs of having paint on the rear. There appears to be overspray on the engine hood latch on the car and inside the rear drivers side wheel arch.
Interesting that its HPI clear, I can only imagine the repairs were completed outside of an insurance policy.
I would be grateful if you could answer my other queries though.
Many Thanks
Clive
Good Evening Michael,
Does the car show any signs of being painted in the past, e.g under the door handles,
Can you tell me what the marks are on the backs of the front seats, they look like water stains or damage. Also drivers seat front edge damage, what is it? also the drivers side bolster are the marks cracks or just ingrained dirt?
Is there any water transgression into the cabin, both speaker grilles look corroded, does condensation form inside the car?
Looking at the headlining is it lose on the sunroof and how is the rest of it?
Is there water transgression into the boot as i can see water stains on the hardboard. Does condensation form on the underside of the boot lid.
Has the car been or show any signs of rust proofing.
Thank you in advance for your time and i look forward to your reply
Kind Regards
Clive
Clive. Thanks for this. In response to the questions you have raised, I am not aware of any signs of painting or damage and have not been made aware of any. Seat issues are wear and tear rather than any evidence of water damage. I have kept the car garaged since I’ve owned it. I got caught in light rain in it once and chamoised it when I got home! There was a major price of work done by Strasse in Leeds before I bought it which included replacing all the seals. See invoice in photos. I am not aware of any water damage. As per answer to an earlier query from a bidder, I am not aware of any evidence of rust. Regards
Thank you for the reply Michael the pictures I was referring to were 9 & 10 of the Mechanics they show over spray, I don’t know enough to say its from the factory or due to the comment made by EdMack, about a crash.
The backs of the seats don’t look like wear and tear there appears to be some staining on them, I thought you may know what they were.
Thank you again for your time.
This car was owned by my Grandad from new, he should be in the log book as E R Mack. He did very few miles in the later years of his ownership after his stroke in 2004. He sold the car after a crash in 2016 and was subsequently off the road for a couple of years which is not mentioned in the history?
Ed. Thanks for this which is interesting because the car is HPI clear and there is no evidence that it has been in a crash. Successive subsequent services by recognised Porsche specialists have not referred to any crash damage or signs of such. In fact, the mechanic who serviced it last week commented to me that it was in great condition for its age. When you say it was sold “after a crash”, what exactly do you mean, and what details can you supply?
I haven’t had a response Ed, but I think the following are the pertinent photos from the large number that Darren at Trade Classics has taken:

Hey Michael
Is the climate control in good working order and does the car cone alarmed with 2 sets of keys/remote?
Any oil leak or oil pressure issues please?
It doesn’t have aircon. Heaters work fine.. it does have an alarm and immobiliser but I only got one key when I bought it. As per last service report done last week, it does have minor engine and gearbox oil leaks. Mechanic said they were more weeps than leaks. Said to be expected for its age/mileage.
As per the details given, the bodywork is in excellent condition. No rust that I’m aware of and certainly none visible anywhere including windscreen and headlines. Nice smooth performance from engine. No cracking. The reg is P240 PPO.
Hi Michael
can you confirm there is no rust around front screen or any behind the headlights also are the door straps nice and quiet no cracking sound. Also what is the current reg number
regards
Mark
