Introduction
Richard Gormley
Thoroughbred engineering, iconic styling, and fantastic performance – when it comes to automotive legends, the 911 has a well-deserved place at the top table.
As one of the world’s most recognisable sports car designs the Porsche 911 needs little introduction. The design for the 911 was first conceived in 1959 by Ferdinand “Butzi” Porsche, grandson of the company’s founder. The first 911 was launched at the 1963 Frankfurt Motor Show and, while Porsche have been at the forefront of developing technology, the iconic lines from that first car have remained clearly evident in 911’s ever since.
This 911 Carrera (996) is a fantastic example. Presented in beautiful “Ocean Blue Metallic” over a grey leather interior with newly refurbished 18” BBS GT3, split rim alloys. The car looks absolutely stunning. Coming to auction after three and a half years ownership, this 911 has benefitted from recent maintenance improvements and upgrades including a new clutch and flywheel, replacement gearbox and, importantly, the installation of a self-lubricating EPS upgrade to the intermediate shaft bearing (IMS). With recent service history this is a great example of a legendary sports car with the hard work done.
This auction listing was written from information supplied by Richard after meeting Will the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

I WANT ONEAsk Questions
Hi,
Another question, sorry but been looking for a 911 for a while and I’ve some interesting examples.
On the o/s door as it opens it creeks, what is causeing it? Is it the hinge, window mechanism?
Also the o/s door striker has rust around it, and the identification label seems to missing or worn clean which is strange, when I zoomed in on the picture it looks like the area has been resprayed, is this right or just a poor camera angle.
Hopefully this is the last of my questions.
Many thanks,
Simon
Hi Simon,
No problem – happy to provide some more detail below.
In answer to your first question, the film was recorded during the heatwave and with the unprecedented heat came a small squeak to the window (I assume because the trim etc. had expanded slightly). No issues with the hinge etc.
On your second question, I’m afraid I can’t shed any light on why the identification label is worn – it was like that when I bought the car. The small amount of rust around the door striker I would say is to be expected for a 24+ year old car, but is minor. The rust suggests to me no prior respray to the inside door skin and no evidence suggests so in the car’s paperwork but of course I can’t be sure.
I hope this helps and good luck in the auction.
Best wishes,
Will
Hi,
Thank you for your replies.
Would it be possible to come a view your car today, I’m only just over an hour away from you so I would kick myself if I didn’t.
Thanks,
Simon
No problem, Simon. Please text me to arrange – 07796796548.
Hi Will,
Thank you for reply,
Will the car come with a fresh MOT?
And just reading through the service history, are the headlight washers still blanked off?
Many thanks,
Simon
Hi Simon,
As the car has done only 600 miles in the last year, I hadn’t envisaged having another MOT before the sale. I work from home, and we now have a dog and baby so use our 4×4 for all trips, hence the particularly low mileage this year.
I had the headlight washers removed as one was broken and wasn’t particularly worried about having them, but all the plumbing is still there under the lights so can easily be reinstated.
Best wishes,
Will
Hi, can you tell me what registration number the car is MOT’d under so I can check the MOT history.
Many thanks,
Simon
Hi Simon,
No problem at all – the reg is R848FVW.
Best wishes,
Will
You’ll see it failed an MOT in 2021 due to the offside front track rod end ball joint having excessive play. Just to let you know, I had both the offside and nearside replaced at the time so they’re only 600 miles old.
Best wishes,
Will
Hi, Lovely looking car.
Do you know the condition of the front radiators/condensers?
Have they been replaced?
Many thanks
Kristian
Thanks very much Kristian. The condition of the front radiator and condensers are excellent – I had them replaced only 18 months ago.
Thanks for the bid – good luck in the auction.
Best wishes,
Will
Hi Will. Is this a Carrera 4 or Carrera 2? One of the invoices states swapping a 4wd gearbox for 2wd?
Regards
Pete
Hi Pete,
Yes, to confirm it’s a Carrera 2. I replaced the gearbox as it was producing a grinding / rubbing noise, only to be quite surprised to find it was a Carrera 4 one. Why it was on the car when I bought it, who knows. I suspect it was conveniently available for a previous owner who had it fitted.
Best wishes
Will
Hi Mojo,
Thanks for your enquiry, I’m more than happy to provide some answers to your questions below:
Does the key lock and unlock the car on the button? – Yes, with no problems.
Is the air conditioning working? Yes, I’ve recently had the air conditioning system re-gassed.
How does the car idle when hot vs cold? Very smooth when both cold and hot – no issues at all.
Have you had any suspension work done- arms, shocks, springs etc or are these original? Not during my ownership of the car, but previous owners may have done.
Does the car track straight down the road? Yes, she is a joy to drive.
What oil pressure does the car show on start up and once it’s fully warmed. 5 on start up, just above 3 once fully warm.
Where does it then sit at idle? At around 800 revs
Same question ref the alternator gauge. Just over 14 on start up, and remains the same once fully warm.
Hope this helps.
Best wishes,
Will
