Introduction

Jacob Boodrie
Professional Consigner

One of the greatest sportscars, this is an earlier version of the 996 and having covered only ~46,000 miles and one previous owner, it really is a gem.

The 996 911 replaced the 993 in 1997 with a more curvaceous, spacious, and aerodynamic body. It also saw the introduction of a new engine - this example is fitted with the 3.4-litre water-cooled block, offering the driver ~300BHP of naturally aspirated force to tap into. The 996 broke new ground for Porsche with a water-cooled engine and the first new platform since the original 911. The car also offered sleeker body styling, a completely redesigned interior and reshaped “fried egg” headlights.

This lovely original "Artic Silver" example is very well equipped with an aluminium hardtop, active rear spoiler, modular headlamps, heat reflective glass, air con, heated seats, and board computer, it's been in the hands of the curren owner for just over 5 years. With just one previous owner recorded before this and comes serviced ~1,000 miles ago.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Jacob after meeting John the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

This 996 cabriolet has been ideal for weekend cruising while I've been back in the UK, it makes you smile every time you drive it.

John purchased this car from KGF classics back in 2017, as he was in the market for low ownership, low-mileage sports car to enjoy on weekends. The car is highly original, along with its paint and John wished to keep it that way, over his ownership no major work has been required over and above regular maintenance.

As John will now be parting with his heated garage, he believes it needs to go to a new owner to keep it in the condition it's been looked after since the factory. He'll be happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Elegantly finished in Artic Silver, you can tell this Carrera has been garaged since new.

Wheels and Tyres

Equipped with 17" one-piece light alloy wheels, the wheels appear in great condition all around. We did notice the slightest area of curbing to the rear offside and front nearside alloy. The car was optioned with wheel caps with coloured Porsche crests.

The wheels wear Continental Sport Contact 2 tyres, dated 2013 on the front and 2010 on the rear. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the wheels and tyres.

Bodywork

The bodywork on the Porsche is in great condition. Walking around the car, the panel gaps all look to be matching as they should and as you would expect from a Porsche, and with careful storage and dry weather use, we didn't spot and corrosion on the bodywork.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Arctic Silver" paintwork on this car looks great, the paintwork has a deep lustre and the paint is even in colour and finish across the car. John reports that all the paint is believed to be original. In terms of any marks etc to be aware of, there are a handful of stone chips to the front of the car as pictured.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass on this example looks great and in line with the mileage. We didn't notice any discolouration. The window seals look good too and are in line with the rest of the condition of the car, along with the convertible roof.

The car comes with the factory aluminium hard top as shown in the exterior video.

Interior

The vibrant Boxster Red leather really makes this 996 stand-out from the crowd.

Seats and Carpets

Equipped with hand-crafted leather seats finished in "Boxster Red" (MA), they appear in great condition with only faint fading to the driver's bolster.

Genuine tailored Porsche velour mats protect the carpets. Take a look at the photos and videos for a closer look at the open interior.

Dashboard

The five gauge Porsche layout is an unmistakable testament to the 911's racing heritage, with everything functioning correctly with precision. The odometer displayed a reading of ~46,580 miles on our visit.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both are original items that look and feel in great condition in line with their age and mileage. The car comes with the Porsche CR-22 radio cassette system.

Take a look at the detailed video and photographic tours on the interior.

Mechanics

The 3.4L develops ~300BHP and will reach of speed of 60MPH in 5.4 seconds - this 911 is a driver's choice.

Engine and Gearbox

On our visit we actioned a cold start as captured in the video. The car fired up, and we didn't observe any smoke etc from the exhaust on gentle revs of the engine.

We've captured a detailed mechanical video that shows the car out on the road and a view around the engine bay. On the short trip out, the car went through the gears with apparent ease. Please take a look at the detailed media pack to see a closer view of the clean engine bay.

Suspension and Brakes

The 4-piston patented monobloc fixed callipers are proudly on display with the Porsche inscription, these grip tightly to the cross-drilled discs.

John confirms that suspension and brakes work exactly as they should and, this being a Porsche, will be perfectly matched to the car's performance.

The Drive

On our short drive with John for the review, the video showed the car performed well, is comfortable and there are no obvious squeaks or rattles we could hear.

Electrics and Other

John advises that all lights, switches and on board computer electrics work as they should.
