Introduction

Richard Gormley
Vehicle Consigner and Photographer

As beautiful as it is iconic, the 911 sets the standard for the useable sports car.

The Porsche 911 needs little introduction, having hit on a winning formula Porsche have barely changed the elegant lines over the years and few are complaining. These cars have a timeless quality about them combining stunning looks with great performance.

This particular 911 C4S is in excellent condition and comes with a fantastic specification having benefitted from extensive factory options. These include Porsche "tequipment" interior upgrades, fixed sports exhaust, full anthracite roof lining and cruise control. The car looks incredible, sounds amazing and drives exactly as a Porsche 911 should. Examples of this quality are hard to find

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Richard after meeting Richard the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

It’s a wonderful car, you will be hard pressed to find another example with this spec.

Richard is a true Porsche enthusiast, he’s owned a few and loves to drive them. He really does know these cars inside out. He has a background in the car industry so is pretty good at knowing and finding what he wants.

It was the extent of the factory upgrades that attracted Richard to this particular 911. After an extensive search he identified a car being sold by a sports car specialist in West Sussex and the deal was done. Having owned the car for just under three years, Richard has used it regularly for European touring and confirms it never misses a beat.

Richard has made further improvements during his ownership including recolonising the Boxster red leather and the installation of a K&N cold air induction system. Having decided it’s time for this 911 to go to a new owner Richard is already on the lookout for another car and it has to be, you’ve guessed it, another Porsche! He'll be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

Beautiful from any angle, the car looks both elegant and purposeful in this widebody format.

Wheels and Tyres

The alloy wheels are in very good condition, being a Carrera 4S, this car features the wider rear wheels like the Turbo. All the tyres have good tread and the rear wheels had two new Michelin N rated tyres fitted as part of the service this year. As can be seen from the images there is minor scuffing to the outer edge of one of the wheels which Richard belives could be easily remedied by a specialist.

Bodywork

Widebodied like the Turbo, the C4S features a wider rear track over standard Carreras. The car presents extremely well. Shut lines are excellent and doors, boot and bonnet all close cleanly and precisely. There are no visible signs of any dents etc and, for a 19 year old car the condition is remarkable. The car stands straight and all panels appear even and true.

Paint

One of the best colours for these cars, the Arctic Silver paint is in very good order with no unevenness or apparent blemishes. Vulnerable areas such as door edges are all good and the deep shine is consistent right across the car. There are some very minor stone chips to the front but these do not appear to have penetrated beyond the laquer.

Glass and Trim

Featuring the restyled headlights for the 996, this design is certainly maturing over the original "fried egg" headlights. Being a 4S, the car also features the reflective panel across the back, a design trait that Porsche have kept on some models since the G-Bodied cars. Glass and trim are in excellent order. Glass is clear with no obvious scratching and all trim items contrast beautifully with the silver paintwork. Lenses are all free from cracks and misting with the headlamp glass having been cleaned and polished recently.

Interior

Simply stunning - the Boxster red, smooth leather interior truly sets this car apart.

Seats and Carpets

The overall condition of the interior is amazing. The colour coded, hard backed, Boxster red sports seats are the smooth leather option and both look and feel beautiful. Testament to the care Richard has taken with this car, he has had the leather reconnolised - the results are stunning.

All carpets and floor mats are in really good shape and the already exceptional interior is enhanced by the factory fit anthracite roof lining.

Dashboard

The car has the large interior pack including the centre console and Porsche tequipment interior upgrades to the handbrake, gearstick and dash trim adding a real touch of luxury. The instruments are clear, consisting white dials with silver surrounds.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The red leather covered three spoke sports steering wheel is in great condition and looks and feels fantastic. Likewise the branded handbrake covering and the gear level all add to a sense of quality and fitness for purpose. The controls are further enhanced with a GT3 pedal and footrest kit

Mechanics

The sound from the 3.6 litre flat 6 through the factory fit sports exhaust is incredible.

Engine and Gearbox

The engine has benefitted from the installation of a K&N cold air induction system and a remap by Nurburgring specialist tuner Nick Lawrence from "On Cars".

As can be seen from the review video the car starts easily, idles steadily and drives wonderfully.

Suspension and Brakes

The car has been fitted with 20mm lowering springs to enhance roadholding together with wheel spacers. Richard confirms that suspension and brakes work exactly as they should and, this being a Porsche, will be perfectly matched to the cars performance.

The Drive

The full service history demonstrates the car has been well looked after and Richard confirms the car is taught and responsive, driving exactly as it should. On our short drive with Richard for the review video showed the car performed well, is comfortable and there are no squeaks or rattles we could hear.

Electrics and Other

Richard advises that all lights, switches and on board computer electrics work as they should. A Bose in car entertainment system is fitted including a CD multichanger, and a nice option of cruise control fitted to this car.

History and Paperwork

C16 manual C4S coupe, coming with a comprehensive service history and wealth of receipts show this car has been well cared for, bid and buy.

A comprehensive history file shows includes the original delivery note from specialist Porsche dealer H.R.Owen in Hatfield together with the original handbook and service pack. Also included are the receipts for the works carried out under Richards ownership including the K&N induction kit. (The original induction kit will be supplied with the car).

The original identification sticker is still on the car and matches the handbook. Interestingly, as a previous owner had a property in Nice, much of the documentation is in French. No, expense has been spared with this car. All in all an excellent example!

We've actioned checks on; selller ID, V5C, HPi.

Hi clutch would have been replaced at some stage for the mileage and age, no need to replace ims bearing as only 1% of these suffered from this.. it’s as solid as a rock, never leaked/ smoked and house toured Europe twice with me.. many thanks
