Introduction

Paul Wright
Professional Consigner

The turbo range of the 911 adds something extra to an already fantastic car, this generation with 4WD too.

The Porsche 911 Turbo was introduced at the turn of the century in 2000, coming from the factory with a staggering ~420BHP coupled to an all-wheel drive system that could reliably and quickly put the power down. As a result of this, the Turbo quickly became a popular sports car and had no difficulty in upholding the reputation of the 911. Alongside its performance figures, the 911 Turbo benefitted from the comfort and practicality of Porsche's German engineering, making it a well-rounded car that could be enjoyed and appreciated by all.

Not only did the turn of the century bring us the Turbo’s improved horsepower and all-wheel drive system, but it introduced a complete redesign for the vehicle, with smoother body lines, a longer nose, and a significantly lighter chassis that was 45% stiffer than its predecessor. All of this combined to represent a considerable milestone in Porsche’s history, with some marking the introduction of the 996 Turbo as the beginning of the Porsche everyday supercar age.

Coming to market after ~2 years ownership, this 2002 Porsche 911 Turbo has been cared for by just four previous keepers. It comes with an excellent service history with a current MOT valid until 18.07.2025. It has a healthy options list, one of which includes the fantastic X50 Pack, pushing the already superb performance even further with an upgrade to ~450BHP.

This listing was written from information supplied by Paul after meeting Phil the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I’ve always loved the 911's shape, and the turbo wide body just sets it apart from the rest.

Phil has owned several performance cars over the years, and the 911 Turbo has always been one of those cars that caused an itch that needed to be scratched. This happened ~2 years ago when Phil purchased this enthusiast-owned, well-maintained 2002 example from us.

With the itch well and truly scratched and two growing kids, the 911 has been offered for sale to make way for something a bit more family-oriented, but it has been fun! Phil has covered ~3,000 miles in that time, and will happily answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

Exterior

With its huge hips and smooth lines, the 996 Turbo doesn’t disappoint in the looks department.

Wheels and Tyres

The original Porsche hollow spoke twist alloys are in good condition. There is some crazing to the paint where they have been refurbished in the past, but it would be easy enough to get refurbished by your local specialist.

Bridgestone Potenza tyres are fitted all round and have a good amount of tread remaining. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

The Turbo bodywork presents well; no dings or dents were spotted when looking around the car, and the shut lines all appear to have equal and matching gaps. A very small amount of surface corrosion is visible on the bottom of the wings; this is caused by stone chips and quite common to see on 911s of this age.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The paintwork is in good condition. It has been finished in the ever popular "Basalt Black Metallic" and treated to a ceramic coating. There are some very minor marks here and there, which could be removed or reduced with a machine polish. In keeping with the 911’s age, there are some chips on the front bumper and a few small marks on the rear bumper.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows are in good condition and appear free from any noticeable scratches. Both windows work correctly as does the sunroof.

All the seals look in good condition with no apparent signs of age. The headlights look in good order and don’t appear to be discoloured.

Interior

Optional black ruffled leather adds class and comfort to the 911 Turbo.

Seats and Carpets

The electric black ruffled leather seats work as they should. The driver's bolster shows minimal wear; this is a tiny amount and nowhere near what you would expect for the Porsche's age. The rear seat is in good condition, and no damage was spotted.

Both door cards are in good order with no noticeable scuffs or damage. The carpets are clean and tidy throughout, and a set of factory Porsche mats is fitted. These mats have some light wear but are an easy item to replace when needed. The spare wheel, jack, wheel brace, and even the plastic bag for your dirty spare are all in place. Please take a look through the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

The dashboard is in good condition; the driver-focused rev counter takes a centre position. All of the gauges seemed to be working correctly, with no warning lights displayed when the car is running, and the odometer shows a reading of ~111,052 miles.

Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather steering wheel is in good condition with just light signs of use, and both Tiptronic buttons work, taking the car up and down the gearbox.

There is some wear to the silver section of the gear knob where the paint has worn away. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

If the 3.6-litre flat-six wasn't already good enough - add two turbos and the X50 pack and the 911 Turbo now pushes ~450BHP.

Engine and Gearbox

The 911 fires up without hesitation, idles smoothly and sounds fantastic. Phil has reported no issues regarding the car's running. Improving performance, the previous keeper had hybrid turbos built by Bernie’s Blowers, Forge Motorsport intercoolers, Forge boost control valve, 740cc injectors, enlarged throttle body, aftermarket inlet plenum and Forge Motorsport intercooler hoses.

The Tiptronic gearbox has a smooth change with no problems going up or down the gears in automatic mode or using the steering wheel buttons. Watch the video to see the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

New shock absorbers, springs and suspension arms were fitted in 2019, along with H&R anti-roll bars to improve handling. The car feels well-planted on the road, and no knocks or bangs are coming from any corner of the vehicle.

With the increased BHP from the X50 Pack, the previous keeper sensibly upgraded the front brakes to a 997 setup. These six-pot brakes and larger discs improve the braking, bringing the 911 turbo to a stop quickly and in a straight line.

The Drive

What a car! The performance is spectacular. The 911 pulls like a train through the gears, showing off its full potential up to the national speed limit, of course, unless you are on a private road.

Despite colossal power and torque figures, the 911 turbo is also a very usable and easy car to drive around town.

Electrics and Other

Everything inside the car is reported to be working just as it should. The factory head unit has been replaced with a Pioneer unit, and just above it, an Apple iPad is fitted. The car also comes with Bose upgrade speakers.

All the switchgear looks to be in good order, with no wear to the lettering on the buttons, and for those long motorway drives you can use the optional extra cruise control.

History and Paperwork

Coming to market from ~2 years ownership, just 4 former keepers, this car has the desirable X50 Pack and has a healthy number of stamps grace the pages of the service book.

A substantial collection of invoices shows just how well this 911 Turbo has been cared for by Phil, the current owner, and the previous keeper, who had owned the car for 7.5 years. It has a current MOT valid until 18.07.2025.

The last service was carried out just over ~2,000 miles ago. In June 2023, it had two oxygen sensors fitted by Cavendish Porsche, Nottingham.

When new, the car was ordered with some nice extras, which include Heated Seats, Soft Ruffled Leather, Stainless Steel Entrance Panels with Turbo Typeface, X50 Performance Kit, Tiptronic S, Cruise Control, Lumbar Support, Top Tinted Windscreen, Rear Parking Assistance, Sun Roof, CD Preparation, Cassette Storage Box.

All the handbooks are present, along with two keys, but only one is a remote control. Some of the original parts, such as the intercooler hoses and head unit, are also included.

This is an excellent choice for anyone looking to upgrade from a normally aspirated Porsche. Its good service history, just four previous keepers, and some nice extras make this 2002 911 Turbo X50 a serious contender.

We've done all our usual seller checks, including photo ID, V5, and also actioned an HPI check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above. However, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail. This has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa, and take your time to review everything on this listing to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
