Introduction

Stuart McIntyre
Professional Consigner

The unmissable 911 silhouette with modern performance - the 996 model is really on the rise and this model is arguably the one to have.

The 996 was first introduced in '97 replacing the air-cooled 993 with a new water-cooled engine, distinctive headlamps and sleeker body styling set the car apart.

A 3.6-litre flat-6 powers this four-wheel-drive cabriolet, offering the driver ~320bhp to tap into. The 996 is the lightest water-cooled 911 you can get your hands-on, and it was 80kg lighter than the 993. The car is perfect for those who crave a driver-focused 911 experience without spending fortune.

This 996 has been owned by Tony since 2017 and it is finished in an attractive Navy Blue - it also comes with its color-coded hardtop.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Stuart after meeting Tony the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

After 4 enjoyable years with this 911, it's now time to pass on that experience and let a new custodian enjoy it.

Tony's always fancied a 911 and when he stumbled across this particular example he couldn't resist purchasing the car. Tony has really enjoyed the car over the previous 4 years and has carried out a lot of work in the form of a complete engine replacement, new IMS bearing, clutch and flywheel, but to name a few parts.

Due to lack of use and downsizing his collection, Tony is now parting with his beloved C4 - he will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

A simply stunning exterior that has matured nicely - the 996 is a great looking 911 that feels like it's appreciating daily.

Wheels and Tyres

The car sits on 18" BBS Sport Design split rims that are finished in a dark grey - it looks great on this particular example against the dark blue body.

The wheels have been treated to a refurbishment at some point over their life and they remain in excellent condition.

The sporty wheels are wrapped in premium Pirelli Cinturato P7s - all of which have a great amount of tread left on them.

Bodywork

The bodywork on this 996 looks in great condition - there are no obvious signs of corrosion and all the shut-lines and panel gaps look great across the car.

Please watch the video to have a look at the car from all angles.

Paint

The paint has an excellent even finish and complements the dark grey alloys wonderfully.

The quality of the paint maybe down to the fact that it has been resprayed in its original Lapis Blue colour during 2019 - it really is a key feature of the car. You'll be proud to pull up anywhere and say it's your car.

Please take a look at the high-resolution photos and videos for a closer look at the paintwork.

Glass and Trim

The glass looks in excellent condition all around - the seals look good and un-perished.

Being picky we did notice that the headlamp covers are starting to show a little sign of age - they would benefit from a little attention to bring them back to their former glory; an easy DIY job for a Sunday morning.

Interior

A luxurious yet driver-focused cabin that pins you in your seat as you tackle sweeping corners.

Seats and Carpets

The blue exterior coupled with the tan leather interior is a timeless classic - it really does look lovely.

The seats contrast with the black carpets - everything looks in good condition.

The seats look to be in line with the age and mileage of the car - they are just showing a little sign age in some areas in the form of creases and minor cracks - as you would expect.

Please view the photographs for a closer look.

Dashboard

The leather dash is in great condition, free from cracking or marks - it is smooth and very clean.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Both are original and in very good condition, i.e. inline with the rest of the interior of the car.

You'll see images and videos of both items in the media pack - please take your time to review for yourself.

Mechanics

320bhp and those all important three pedals that enthusiasts crave - the four-wheel-drive offers an extra boost of power and stability.

Engine and Gearbox

The car has recently had a replaced engine (the replacement had ~80,000 miles covered), due to the cylinder fail issue. Tony also reports the IMS has been replaced as well as the clutch, for total peace of mind. Please see the paperwork section for more detail.

In 2012 the car had a sports exhaust fitted, which sounds great.

Tony reports a fast and enjoyable drive in the 911, he says the car swiftly reaches motoring speed without any issues. Please take a look at the mechanical video to watch the cold start and have a closer look at the engine bay - it really does look very well cared for.

We noticed on our visit that the gas strut for the engine bay was missing, and therefore we had to hold the bonnet open.

Suspension and Brakes

We are told by Tony that the suspension works well, it produces a smooth yet firm ride without any unusual sounds or knocks.

The Drive

The iconic Porsche 911 offers a familiar body shape, which we all love that is jam-packed full with modern performance.

Tony's loved his 4 years of Porsche ownership, especially the handling capabilities of the 996 model.

Electrics and Other

The electronics in the cabin of this era of 911 were a step up from the air-cooled generation. All the mod-cons to keep you comfortable during your summer road trips.

Everything works as it should do to Tony's knowledge.

History and Paperwork

Finished in arguably the right colour, manual, UK RHD means this solid 996 is ready for a new custodian to enjoy.

The car comes with a healthy amount of service history, receipts, MOTs.

The clutch and flywheel were replaced in 2018. The 3.6-litre engine was replaced in January 2019 for the cost of £4,500 by McPorsche Limited. For extra peace of mind, the car has had the notorious IMS bearing replaced in February 2019.

All the radiators have been replaced, along with 2 air condition and 2 cooling systems.

This really is a great 996 to be driven and enjoyed, backed up with the knowledge that all the main items have been attended to.

The car has also had some choice upgrades in the form of a sports exhaust system which sounded great on our visit.

We've actioned checks on; Seller ID, V5, HPi.

Hi, Looking at the images of the exterior it appears that there are a number of small white spots appearing on the paintwork, as an example image 66 showing 3 to 4 white dots on the drivers side rear quarter, could you confirm if these are blemishes in the finish of the new paintwork or is it just a reflection in the picture that has been taken, only asking as a previous car I owned had a re-sprayed with this issue which required further attention.
Thanks
