Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

The 997's rewards go way beyond its return to iconic styling and engaging handling.

Debuting in 2004, the sixth generation of 911 was an eagerly anticipated evolution of Porsche's most iconic car. The revisions to the styling, its chassis and a welcome return to the interior styling cues of the past, firmly placed the 997 as a better car in all departments than its predecessor. In its Carrera 2S guise, the car was sold with continuously variable dampers, as part of the new Active Suspension Management and fitted with the striking 19” alloys. Combining practicality with effortless performance is only half of the 997's traits, the ride quality, ergonomics, and intuitive handling with tenacious grip are genuinely intoxicating qualities to have in a car which sacrifices nothing in return.

This very tidy and original 2004 Carrera S with the 6-speed manual gearbox is finished in "Atlas Grey Metallic", and comes with an excellent documentation of regular servicing, along with £6,800 worth of spending over the last three years. It has seen a bore score inspection in 2017 and has recently been fitted with four brand new Michelin tyres. Sold with an MOT to October 2023, the car also comes with its complete owners wallet and 2 keys. It's a well spec'd car with desirable options like Sports Chrono Pack Plus, BOSE surround sound system and cruise control too.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Drazen the custodian, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've been trusted to take care of the car, it really is something that I would consider buying myself!

The sale of the Porsche is being handled by Drazen, on behalf of the car's registered owner Louisa, who is currently abroad. Bought from a specialist about a year ago, the car has seen careful use and has seen a substantial amount of maintenance during her ownership.

She has appreciated the quality and virtues of the Porsche and has decided to replace the 997 with a more recent model. Drazen will be on hand to answer any questions about the car in the comments section below.

CONTACT OWNER

Exterior

Well cared for over its lifetime, the presentation still impresses to this day.

Wheels and Tyres

Optioned with the near pristine 19" Carrera Sport wheels, they are a welcome sight as opposed to the "Lobster Claw" wheels that are often seen.

The car has recently been fitted with 4 brand new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres which are of course in excellent condition.

Bodywork

The body's panel fit is flush throughout and the shut lines are even. All of the doors open and close with ease. The structure of the car is solid, with no observations of damage or wear and there are no visual signs of panel imperfections.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The "Atlas Grey Metallic" (code E7E7) paint finish is even and has a decent lustre with mild signs of swirling on the roof, due to the car's age but does present itself positively.

There is some minor paint mottling and runs on the nearside front section of the bumper and a handful of minor chips were observed on the front of the car too. A detailer could remedy all of these minor issues for a modest cost we think.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

There are no outstanding issues with the glass, and the windscreen with a grey top tint is intact with no chips, just the expected wear in line with the car's age. All the glass seals are decent.

The headlamp lenses' sheen are slightly flat but easily remedied. The car tail lamps are intact, with no other tissues other than light lacquer wear noted on the off-side door mirror.

Interior

The leather cabin has clearly been well maintained over time and also is a testament to the quality materials Porsche used.

Seats and Carpets

The front optional sports leather seats are in good shape finished in black, with nothing more than the expected age-related light wear on the driver's bolsters. The rear section of the cabin is very tidy and generally free of wear.

The carpets and mats are in excellent shape, with no signs of dampness, with the front luggage section appears to have seen careful use.

Dashboard

The leather facia padding has no noticeable signs of wear on the dashboard, other than minor marks on the glovebox noted, the plastic housing of the centre console and the handbrake handle. All of the dials and switches look decent, and all including the air-con and optional cruise control are said to function. The dials are fully legible.

The door cards show marks, particularly on the driver's side but the headlining is free of marks.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

Fitted with the factory steering wheel, it has no significant marks, and the manual gear lever and its gaiter are in decent shape too.

Mechanics

The 997 S is a prime candidate as one of the most usable and practical modern-classic supercars.

Engine and Gearbox

The car starts up without any issues, with no rattles or hesitation from the engine. The dashboard warning lights remained off while the car idled, with no observations of fluid leaks noted on the day. The engine is neatly presented with plenty of evidence that it has been well maintained.

No issues were reported regarding the gear change or clutch biting point. Watch the "On The Road" video to see the car in action.

Suspension and Brakes

No creaks were heard from the suspension and it rode smoothly during the test derive. The PASM dampers are said to function well.

The brakes operate perfectly, with no juddering or any signs of wear. The steering appeared to be true, with no vibrations observed.

The Drive

Part of the 997's ability is its docile mannerism when needed, in built-up areas, the car drives with very little indication that you're in a 180 mph supercar. The owner demonstrated that it drives well, with no reported issues with this oil pressure or engine temperature.

A gentle prod of the throttle hinted at the car's prowess but also demonstrated that its robust servicing record and the recent focus on engine expenditure show that this car has been well cared for. Perfectly capable of serving as a daily driver, this car's braking balance, steering and apparent mechanical durability make it an ideal opportunity for those wondering what all the fuss is about.

Electrics and Other

The manual rear spoiler switch function as expected, with the PCM functions all said to work well. The car is also fitted with the optional Sport Chrono Pack Plus, BOSE sound system and the CDC-4 six-disc CD Autochanger, and also cruise control.

History and Paperwork

A well spec'd example of the 997 S, manual with Sports Chrono+ and other desirable options make this car stand out we think.

Originally ordered new from Porsche Centre Guildford, the car comes with a regular schedule of stamps, with the last one being carried in late 2022, as part of the camshaft positioning sensor and actuators replacement, which was carried out by GT One LTD of Surrey.

Asides from the keen number of dealers and Porsche specialist servicing, the engine also received a bore score inspection and a new water pump in 2017. It comes with a stack of invoices, past MOTs, its original leather wallet, and all of its manuals, including the service book and comes with 2 keys. It has an MOT to October 2023. Please note that the car will be sold with an age-related plate, the one will be retained by the owner.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Drazen, just checked on the last MOT that the car had done. Have these advisories been sorted?
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Nearside Rear tyre has nail in tread

Also when was the bore score inspection done?

Hi. The GTOne invoice stated that the up and over coolant pipes were heavily corroded and were a high priority. Have the coolant pipes been replaced?
