Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

This is an investment level car with all the right ingredients - manual 'S' / desirable colour way / low owners / low mileage / service history / Sports Chrono / non-sunroof etc.

It's never a difficult decision to choose a Porsche 911 as a way to enjoy a balanced driving experience, with its well-established credentials for engineering, poise, style and resale values intact. Choose carefully and keep on top of the maintenance, you’ll have a car that will never disappoint. The only dilemma is which model to pick within your budget. With so many decent 997-era Porsches available, you can afford to be choosy and opt for the exact colour and spec you’ve set your heart on, and this is possibly where this 2005 Carrera S with a 3.8-litre engine, manual gearbox, Carrera S lowered suspension on 19” alloys and uprated brakes comes in.

It has a mileage of just ~25,150 miles that's backed up with MOT and service records. Finished in the subtle and timeless Seal Grey metallic, it comes with the desirable Sports Chronograph Plus package, an updated DAB multimedia system and £4,500 worth of invoices spent over the last 3 years. This is certainly one of the best, if not the best, investor level quality 997 Carrera S on the market today.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting Stuart the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The 911 was very much a tick-box car, and it's been a superb experience.

Previously used for a short commute to work, now since Stuart has retired, the car is still seeing good use. The 911 has long been on his radar as a ‘tick-box’ car, and he has not been disappointed with his experience with it.

Having found this local very low-mileage example, which had been previously serviced at Brookspeed since 2015, Stuart bought well and has carried on the duty of looking after the car.

The car is only being sold as there is another potential purchase in the pipeline.

CONTACT OWNER

Exterior

As to be expected with a car that has seen not much more than 25,000 miles, there's very little in terms of issues to point out

Wheels and Tyres

The 19" Carrera 5 spoke alloys are in excellent condition, with a full set of Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, all are under three years old, with the three being recent fittings.

Bodywork

The structure of the car is excellent, with no outstanding concerns in terms of its presentation too.

The doors open and close with ease, and the panel fit looks factory perfect, with no issues noted in terms of the shut line gaps. The bumpers are flush with the body.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The Seal Grey metallic paint finish has a very good lustre, with no outstanding issues in regard to its paint match. Aside from a handful of minor small marks noted on the nearside and nose, the car is in excellent visual condition.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass is in excellent shape with healthy seals. The glass drop/raise action works perfectly and the trim is all in good order with no observations of age noted.

The Bi-Xenon headlights and all lenses are intact.

Interior

Luxurious with its full leather trim, the cabin has been well preserved.

Seats and Carpets

The leather seats are all in a very presentable state, with just the lightest of marks noted on the driver's seat bench.

The carpets and mats are all in excellent shape and damp-free. The rear luggage area is tidy with a few marks noted on some of the trim. The front luggage area suggests sparing use.

Dashboard

The dashboard is free of any significant blemishes. Some of the centre console plastic trim shows marks, with a few signs of its age also noted on a couple of console switches.

Otherwise, the rest of the switches, aluminium trim and silver-coloured dials are in very good shape. It is fitted with the desirable Sports Chronograph Plus package. The headlining and door cards are intact and free of marks. The interior mirror has been replaced since our visit - you'll see a receipt for £613 for a new one in the history file.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

No headaches in terms of the presentation of the gear lever or its gaiter, the steering wheel leather is intact with the odd mark on some of the brightwork.

Mechanics

Mechanically speaking, the car performed faultlessly thanks to its regular servicing and careful upkeep.

Engine and Gearbox

Firing up immediately with no hesitation, the engine bursts into life and idled smoothly with no signs of problems. All of the dashboard warning lights remained off and continued to stay off as the car was on tick over. With no reported problems in terms of oil pressure or engine temperature, it was also noted to be leak free.

The engine presents neatly, backing up its cherished lifestyle. The gearbox and clutch operated without drama, selecting gears with no obstructions. The gear cables were renewed in 2022. Stuart also mentioned that the sports exhaust has seen attention from specialists to improve its flow and sound.

The engine number of this car indicates it has the larger IMS bearing that was introduced starting from number 68509791.

Suspension and Brakes

The lowered suspension with PASM appears to be in good physical condition, with no observations of issues concerning the way the car drives, with no unwanted noises coming from the wheels while in motion.

The brake discs and pads saw replacement to all four corners around a year ago and its ability to stop the car safely is never in doubt.

The Drive

Typically confident in its poise and mannerism, the 997 rides and handles at low speeds with no clue of its potential, with its well-weighted steering, slick gear change and manageable controls, every 997 has an element of built-in sensibility.

However, with ~350 horses waiting to be unleashed from its charismatic 3.8-litre flat-six engine on tap, the true reason why these cars continue to resonate with buyers is never far away. The drive was effortless and comfortable, with no issues noted in terms of the way it performed on the day, the steering free of faults and no unwanted noises coming from the drivetrain.

Electrics and Other

The car is also fitted with a dealer option fire extinguisher and BOSE sound package, which is complemented by a retro-fitted Kenwood DAB multimedia system.

Importantly, the original PCM is also included in the sale.

History and Paperwork

Since owning the car, Stuart has taken it for yearly services and spent over £4,500 on its upkeep.

With just 12,500 miles on the clock when Stuart bought the car, not unreasonably, he has used and enjoyed the car adding around 3000 miles per year since buying it in 2020. With this in mind, it still has an enviably low mileage, and Stuart has also spent over £4,500 on servicing and maintenance. This includes a new door seal in 2020, fresh front and rear discs/pads, new gear cables, a new battery in 2022 and new AC condensers which were fitted this year.

Prior to Stuart's ownership, the car saw a new starter motor in 2016. The car has 9 receipts/stamps to document its servicing, including four in the last 3 years. It has an MOT to June 2024, a complete owner's wallet and at the moment Stuart has just one key, but assures us that the second is in his house.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment of the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hi Stuart, has the spare key turned up? If you can’t find it, will you be supplying the car with a new one? Many thanks.

Thanks. Did Brookspeed recommend the yearly oil services with it being a 997.1 used on shorter journeys?
