Introduction

Darren Rungasamy
Automotive Editor, Photographer and Consigner

The 997 is the ultimate all-rounder - looks, performance, luxury and usability.

Decades of experience have gone into the Porsche 911, so it would be a sensible suggestion to state that Porsche has well and truly wrapped up the sports car market. This is not a shock to anyone who has owned any generation of the 911, but its effortless ability, to deal with the smooth and rough, with dependability, quality and reliability are just a fraction of the 911’s true talents. No matter how quickly you drive it, the Porsche is easy to place on the road and hugs those corners as accurately as a train on rails. A masterclass in ergonomics and comfort, Porsche doesn’t need to harp on about its heritage to sell the 911 - it simply relies on its merits.

This beautifully presented 2005 Carrera S, is finished in the classic combo of silver with a full Sea Blue leather interior, with the eye-catching Lobster Claw alloys. Fitted with sat nav and parking sensors it also comes with a comprehensive series of stamps in its service book, the most recent one being just 1,000 miles ago. The car is sold with an MOT to September 2023, it also has two keys and seen recent attention to its brakes.

This listing was written from information supplied by Darren after meeting John the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I have ticked my box of wanting to experience a 911

John told us that he searched for about a year to find this car because he was concerned about buying the wrong one e.g. too cheap and then spending lots of money to put it right, he eventually found this vehicle in a dealership where he was able to inspect and drive the car. It did not disappoint and with low mileage and a warranty, this allayed his fears of buying a problem car.

John has owned the car for more than 3 years now and it's time to let someone else have their fun.

Exterior

Well looked after by successive owners, its presentation is almost flawless.

Wheels and Tyres

The optional 'Lobster Claw' 19" alloys are in excellent shape, and the Pirelli P-Zero tyres all show a decent amount of even tread - all were fitted after 2017.

Bodywork

The car's structure looks solid throughout, with the floor pan in good shape and no issues noted on the sills or jacking points. The body is free from any discernible corrosion, dents or scuffs. The panels and bumpers are well mounted, with visually equal shut lines throughout. All doors open and close with ease.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The silver paint finish is even throughout, with a good lustre. As is often the case with these low cars, it has a handful of very light stone chips, mostly on the nose and a handful of marks on the driver's side door edge, but nothing too distracting.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The top-tinted windscreen has a couple of treated stone chips, they have been on the car for a number of years and are flagged up as advisories but not in the eye line of the driver.

The rest of the glass, including the hood item is in good order, all with decent seals.

There is mild fogginess noted on the headlamps and front indicator units, but still display well.

No issues were observed in terms of the car's trim.

Interior

Clean and well-presented - the cabin betrays its age and retains its allure.

Seats and Carpets

The Sea Blue heated leather seats show just light wear with minor creasing noted on the driver's seat bolster, but overall have lasted well.

The carpets and mats are clean throughout, with no immediate signs of heavy use.

John uses a pair of separate tan-coloured footwell mats when driving, which will be included in the sale.

Dashboard

The dashboard and facia are in very good shape, with very few signs of its age. The centre console and housing around the gear lever have a few marks, but that is the extent of wear in the cabin.

ll the switches are in good shape and are said to function, with the air-con blowing icy cold.

The headlining is free of damage, but the fabric on the C pillar upholstery will need some attention.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The leather multifunction steering wheel is in good order with no significant marks - its Tiptronic buttons are intact and fully operational.

The gear lever reflects the overall pampered condition of the cabin.

Mechanics

Smoothly performing at all speeds, the car's positive mechanical reputation is supported by this example.

Engine and Gearbox

The cold start did not suggest any problems with the engine, firing up immediately with no warning lights noted on the dashboard. The engine sounded smooth and free of unwanted noises on tick-over, with no issues noted with the exhausts.

The engine presentation suggests good maintenance, with intact hoses and ancillaries.

The gearbox was demonstrated to work perfectly.

Importantly John has had a recent bore scope check by Porsche and was given a clean bill of health - there's correspondence and photographic evidence to support this.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension dampers appear to do their job well, with no observations of knocks while the car was in motion.

Porsche replaced the all the brake disks and pads fewer than ~1,000 miles ago, so there were no outstanding concerns about the way the car stops.

The Drive

Part of the 997 appeals is the opportunity to drive the car like any other modern car, yet the power is never much more than a blip away. We were treated with both the urban traffic run, as well as a chance to experience the smooth yet devastating delivery of power.

The car felt rigid, with no unwanted noises noted from the wheels at both scales of the ride. The steering was vibration free, with its cornering tight and precise, as one would expect from a well-looked-after 997.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with Park Assistant and has a telephone and navigation module for PCM as part of the standard equipment.

The hood is in good shape, with a few minor marks but free of any significant damage. Its operation was seamless, with no straining from the motors, just the odd creak.

History and Paperwork

Compete with water-tight service history and in the rare occasions that issues arose, they have been addressed straight away.

John took the wise precaution of buying the car from a specialist, who had ensured the car had come from the right background with the correct servicing schedule. As a result, John has enjoyed trouble-free motoring with only the servicing needing any attention.

Kept in a dry storage area during the winter, it only sees fair weather. John has also addressed any issues raised by the servicing team and made sure any potential issues were sorted out immediately. It has a thorough service history (technically only needed every other year), with the most recent one carried out in late 2021, just over 1,000 miles ago.

As mentioned, a bore score check has also been recently conducted by Porsche and returned an all clear status.

The car comes with two keys, the owner's wallet and has an MOT to September 2023.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and also actioned a HPi check on the vehicle.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

Hello John, car looks really nice. A question – has the M97 engine had an IMS upgrade?
Kind Regards Stephen
