Introduction

Professional Consigner

Quality engineering, iconic styling and fantastic performance – when it comes to automotive greats, the 911 is one of the legends.

Hitting the public in 1997, the 4th generation of 911 was noted as the start of a new era for Porsche. The twin-turbo wide body that came three years after the normally aspirated variants quickly dispelled any claims that Porsche had gone off course. The 996 generation with the 3.6-litre turbocharged flat-six derived from the Le Mans-winning GT1, is generally considered as the best opportunity to obtain a 911 Turbo.

In 2001, the 911 Turbo Coupe was introduced, with a wide body, more technology and equipment The model range was extended in 2005 with the introduction of the Turbo S. With an output of ~444BHP, the Turbo S delivered an additional ~30bhp more than the standard 911 Turbo, a blistering 0-60mph time of ~4.2 seconds and a top speed of ~190mph.

This example comes to market from ~8 years ownership with low mileage and showing in lovely overall condition. The 911 also carries great service history with 29 official Porsche service stamps. The choice colour way of GT Silver with its smart black leather interior, is well set up for its future owner. With its rare 6-speed manual option and carbon ceramic brakes, the 911 is a proper drivers' car.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Vaughan the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I've always admired Porsche's quality and design, this car embodies all of that and much more for me.

Vaughan has owned the car for eight years now, a keen Porsche fan which also runs in the family, he said, "My son and I have always liked the 911 Turbo and my first really nice car was a 996 Turbo Tiptronic a few years back. I missed that car and wanted to buy a better version with a manual gearbox, so it had to be a Turbo S".

The current owner goes on to say, "My son and I have taken it on several road trips and we've never had any issues with the car".

The 911 is finished in a classic spec of GT Silver with a black leather interior, a lovely finish to the car and one that Vaughan had his eye set on, he said, "The 6-speed manual is a rare version of this car and when this one came up in the colour combination, I jumped at the opportunity to buy it back in 2016".

Since moving house Vaughan told us, "I no longer have the garage space for the cars I own. This means some of them sit in storage and I'm less likely to enjoy them. I've therefore decided to sell all my nice cars and buy just one extra special car I've wanted for several years".

Vaughan will be happy to answer any questions in the comments section below.

Exterior

The Porsche 996 really looks on point with its silver finish, a smart colour colour-way combination that turns heads out on the road.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with 18" Porsche 5 spoke alloys finished in silver the wheels show in excellent condition, with no signs of any concerning damage during our visit having been previously refurbished, the centre badges show well and without concern too.

The 911 is fitted with Bridgestone Potenza tyres to the front and rear. The tyre spec shows 225/40 to the front and 295/30 to the rear. All tyres were replaced in 2014 at ~40,359 miles. These appear to be in good visual condition, with a good amount of tread remaining.

Bodywork

While looking over the Porsche during our visit, we found that the car maintains great visual panel gaps, and the doors, bonnet, and boot open and close smoothly. The sunroof showed well with no concerns or issues. We did not observe any major scratches or dings on the panels.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view at what’s on offer, and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

The GT Silver paintwork has a smooth and even finish across all the panels, overall showing in great condition and complementing the Turbo S nicely.

Being picky, we did note a few signs of paint bubbling on the front wheel arch edges.

Of course, there's a few signs of stone chipping over the exterior, although nothing overly concerning.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there yourself. Please take the time to fully assess these high-resolution images and videos of the car to form your own opinion about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The glass sections on the Porsche were in great condition, looking consistent with the car's age; we didn't notice any cracks or discolouration during our visit. The trim and window seals also looked excellent. The front Porsche and rear 'Turbo S' badges as well as the Porsche glass markings all appeared smart.

Check out the exterior gallery and review video. We guide you through all areas of the car as if you were standing there yourself, so you can see in greater detail how the car is presented.

Interior

Surrounded by premium leather, a driver-focused cockpit, and meticulous detailing, the interior is a blend of comfort and pure racing spirit.

Seats and Carpets

The front seats are in good condition, the rear seating section showed with minimal use or concern. The Porsche has multi-function electrical seats for the drivers seat of the car. Both front and rear seating sections show no major damage. There were some notes of wear to the drivers seat edge and a couple of marks to the seat backs.

The main Porsche branded carpet in the interior is in great condition, and the carpet in the front boot also looks great.

Underneath, the carpet sections showed no issues with the bodywork.

We cover the cabin area of the Porsche in more detail in our interior review video.

Dashboard

The black leather dash looks to be in great condition, free from any significant marks. The dashboard presented really well, with no visible concerns or markings when we visited the car and showed ~53,192 miles on the clock when starting it up. All the numbers and dials on the dash appeared clear and legible.

The gauges, switches, and controls all appeared to be in great condition, with surfaces free from fogging or scratching. Our interior gallery section offers a closer look at the 911 dashboard.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The black leather Porsche steering wheel is in excellent condition, with no signs of major damage or wear.

The metal trimmed gear stick, with its 'Turbo S' logo, is in great condition, showing only minor signs of use. The handbrake also looked good, with matching metal trim elements.

Additional images of the cabin area, including the steering wheel, are available in our "Interior Gallery" section for more details on what the Turbo S has to offer.

Mechanics

With its water-cooled 3.6L, flat-six, twin-turbo charged engine, the Turbo S is capable of ~190 MPH with ~444 BHP on tap - some seriously impressive performance.

Engine and Gearbox

Porsche are renowned for great quality and fast cars, this is no exception to that rule. The 6-speed manual variant is capable of taking the car from 0-60 MPH in ~4.2 seconds.

The engine appears to be in great visual condition, with no issues, smoke, or unusual noises. We noted no issues from start up either which we've highlighted in the cold start section of the "Mechanical Review" video.

Take a look at our "On the Road" video, where we cover the engine start-up and take the Porsche around some rural roads to learn more about the car.

Suspension and Brakes

We noted no knocks, bangs, or other issues with the suspension while on the road, and it gave us no concerns regarding its performance or handling. The ventilated, carbon ceramic brakes felt great and were able to bring the Porsche firmly to a stop.

The recent MOT certificate includes some advisories commensurate with the vehicle's age, relating to some brake pipe corrosion, offside front brake disc wear (minimal) and front suspension strut pin wear. None of these issues are considered significant but may require attention at a future date.

We cover the underside of the car in our 'Mechanical Gallery' section. Head over to our video section, where we've summarised our visit in more detail for you to view. We take you through the mechanical elements of the car and give you an overview of what's on offer.

The Drive

Vaughan, the current owner, shares his experiences with us, "I love the effortless performance combined with the amazing roadholding in all conditions and the practicality. It's a car you could drive as a daily and it never puts a foot wrong".

As expected from a car of this calibre, the drive is brilliant, with more than enough power, torque, and grip to keep you entertained. We noted no pull from the steering, juddering or unwanted movements.

Our 'On the Road' video provides an overview of the car and its performance while driving.

Electrics and Other

All switches, dials, and gauges appear undamaged and in great condition. The Porsche has multi-function electrical seats for the drivers seat of the car.

The Porsche is equipped with fully functional climate control. The 911 has a stereo fitted, although Vaughan let us know that the system was not working. Some investigative work will be required by the future owner. Vaughan also mentioned that the headlight washers are inoperative and would also need some investigation.

In the boot, a 4 disc CD changer, toolkit and spacesaver spare wheel and tyre were present.

History and Paperwork

With fewer than ~4,000 miles travelled in the last ~5 years, this modest mileage 911 is a very smart example of a well looked after Turbo S complete with a rare manual gearbox.

With limited miles covered in his ~8 year ownership, Vaughan told us that no major work had been required during this time. A highlight of the 911, is the great service history coming with 29 Porsche service stamps.

The Turbo S comes complete with its leather bound log book, drivers manual and other Porsche booklets.

Minor maintenance was carried out in July 2024. Major servicing was completed in July 2022 and August 2018. A new radiator was replaced in July 2016. All tyres were replaced in 2014 at ~40,359 miles.

The Porsche had both rear shock absorbers changed in July 2013 and its AC condensers, turbo flange fixings and heat shields replaced in April 2013. Both rear lower wishbones, power steering return pipe, centre radiator and steering rack were replaced in July 2005.

The recent MOT certificate includes some advisories commensurate with the vehicle's age, relating to some brake pipe corrosion, offside front brake disc wear (minimal) and front suspension strut pin wear. None of these issues are considered significant but may require attention at a future date.

For a closer look at the 911's history, we've included all the relevant invoices and receipts in the paperwork gallery section. Take a look over the content to see the full history behind the car and its historic works carried out.

We’ve done all our usual seller checks including photo ID, V5 and actioned a HPi check on the vehicle. Vaughan will be more than happy to answer any questions you have about the car in the comments below.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.

    Key Bidding Facts

    What is your reserve policy?

A reserve is the minimum price that the seller will let the car go for. We work with sellers to set realistic reserves in line with market pricing – we don’t take on vehicles with unrealistic pricing. Reserve met / not met labeling may or may not be announced during the auction – this is just like a traditional auction house, i.e. bidders may only know when they’ve been successful at the end of the auction.

If the reserve hasn’t been met at the end of the auction then we work with the highest bidder to try to work out a deal with the seller.

Why shouldn’t I leave bidding to the last minute?

Auto-Extending Bidding – we’ve developed auto-extending auctions that mimic traditional auction house bidding; it’s a key feature to make sure classic vehicles achieve their true worth. Bids placed in the last one minute automatically extend the auction by two further minutes. So there is no need to leave bidding to the last second.

Security – we operate higher levels of security, so you may need to enter further authorisations against your stored card after you select ‘Place Bid’. All this takes time and may mean you miss the end of the auction by the time the authorisation passes. To guarantee your bid, we recommend at least five minutes are active on the auction when you place your bid.
