Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

50 years of engineering refinement to produce arguably, the perfect sports car - Porsche 911 997.1

As with every Porsche 911, the 997 is an evolution of the preceding model, the most obvious element being the replacement of the old fried egg headlamps back to the more traditional 911 front-end.

The 4S variant offers more power from an increased displacement and not only does the 997 looks the part but also performs on par with the world's best sports cars, especially in terms of acceleration and handling. This example is coming out of Matthew's ownership, who has been a meticulous owner and he has just prepared the car with a fresh MOT and Service.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting Matthew the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The ultimate sportscar, I wish I had more time to use it.

Matthew has been the proud owner of this Porsche 911 997.1 cabriolet for a few years but due to starting a family and moving house, he no longer has space to dry store this lovely example. Therefore he decided to part with the car - he's hoping a like-minded Porsche enthusiast will take over his ownership.

The car has been well looked after by main dealers and specialists throughout the years - it had its last service and MOT a few days ago.

Matthew will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have in the comments below.

Exterior

Back to classic headlights and that all-important rear-end - Porsche design team have done it again.

Wheels and Tyres

The car looks great on its chrome finished 19" spoke alloys which contrast well against the Basalt Black paintwork.

The wheels present in excellent condition following a high standard refurbishment.

The attractive wheels are wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 3's on the front and Pilot Sport 4's on the rear. All appear to have been replaced in 2018.

Bodywork

With distinctive 911 body lines, the car appears very well cared for and presents beautifully.

All panel gaps look correct and tight - please take a look through all the pictures and videos for a detailed view.

The car has also been treated to a 997.2 rear facelift, Matthew has had a professional fit of genuine Porsche LED rear light clusters and 997.2 rear bumper, which looks really good on this example.

Paint

Finished in a stunning Basalt Black this 911 really looks the part. The overall finish of the paint has a great amount of lustre to it, with the colour looking even across all the panels.

When getting really close to the paintwork we noticed some very minor stone chips to the front bumper and a very small scuff to the offside rear wing. Please take a look at the detailed videos for a closer look at the exterior.

Glass and Trim

All appear in great condition across the car. The trim and glass look the part with no major signs of damage, cracks, or chips noticed on the visit.

Please watch the detailed video to see the whole exterior in great detail.

Interior

Arguably, the pinnacle of 911 design, pure focus on the driver and performance.

Seats and Carpets

Luxurious black leather seats are fitted in this example with matching carpets and door cards. All present in very good condition and in line with the age and mileage of the car.

If we were being really picky we noticed some very minor marks to the kick plates and some minor creasing on the driver's bolster and seat.

Official Porsche carpets are also fitted, which all appear in great condition and clean throughout.

Dashboard

We really like the additional option of the yellow clocks with vibrant orange needles. Matthew reports all the gauges and dials are working exactly as you would expect in a sports car of this level.

The car has a third-party multimedia head unit installed which has replaced the older, outdated Porsche unit. When getting really close to the centre console we noticed a few areas of lacquer peel and wear to the air-con switches.

The car also features a central Chrono clock, which is a must-have feature within this driver's focused car.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

A sleek and original Porsche steering wheel is fitted in this 997.1 along with the automatic gear shifter, both present nicely in line with the age and mileage of the 911.

Please take a look through the extensive photos and videos to see the detail up close.

Mechanics

A mighty 3.8L flat-six squeezed into the rear of this 4 wheel drive cabriolet.

Engine and Gearbox

The larger displaced 3.8L was fitted on all 'S' and '4S' models of the 997.1, and offer a 0-60 speed of 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 179mph.

The viscous clutch all-wheel-drive system sends between 5% and 40% of engine torque to the front wheels as per need.

The car started first time in 'cold start' which we conducted for the mechanical video.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with adaptive suspension, perfect for adjusting for any driving circumstance - perhaps you're popping to the shops, or out on a spirited run - this car has your back.

Maintenance on the brakes and suspension has been carried out in line with the schedule ensuring that everything works as expected.

The Drive

The four-wheel-drive system is a great addition to the 997 talents.

The car offers everything you'd want on a supercar.

Matthew has really enjoyed using the car on weekends and reports a comfortable yet thrilling fast jet driving experience.

Electrics and Other

The car is fitted with a third-party pioneer head unit, Matthew reports all the other electrics on the car are working exactly as they should.

History and Paperwork
