Introduction

Glyn Parry
Professional Consigner

Mid-engined 3.4L flat-six - arguably the perfect combination for any two-seater sports car.

The Porsche Cayman was launched in 2006 as a fixed hard top, two-seater and mid-engined sports car. The Cayman S, although based on the Boxster platform, is reported to be made up of 50% 911 parts, 30% Boxster and 20% of the parts are unique to the Cayman S. We think it is the perfect car for anyone wanting a hardtop two-seater and is an ideal way to step into Porsche ownership.

This lovely 2006 model is in superb condition both inside and out. It also benefits from a clear bore score and uprated IMS after having the engine fully rebuilt in June 2022, making it an ideal car with what is essentially an engine that has covered just ~4,300 miles since the rebuild which came in at a cost of ~£10,000.

This listing was written from information supplied by Glyn after meeting John the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

I was thinking about a 911, but a friend said the Cayman would be a perfect weekend toy for me without the price tag - and he couldn't have been more right.

John has owned this lovely 2006 Porsche Cayman S for approximately 16 months. He has spent a considerable amount of money on the car with servicing and a complete engine rebuild, which was to basically replace everything to ensure the engine was perfect after it started to show signs of bore score.

Not only did independent specialist Club Autosport Ltd rebuild the engine, but John took their advice on other maintenance that made sense with the engine out, to ensure the car would be good for many years to come. This is because the car was very much purchased as a long term investment, but sadly some health issues are forcing John to sell much sooner than he anticipated. He will be on hand to answer any questions on the car in the comments below.

Exterior

From the front, it can easily be mistaken for a 997 - and from the side - well, it's just a beautifully designed sports car.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with the stunning 19” Sport alloys, these are in excellent condition with just a few minor age-related marks, and a small amount of paint has peeled off two of the centre caps.

The tyres are Pirelli P Zero and are in superb condition, having not long been replaced. Please see the image gallery to take a closer look at the wheels.

Bodywork

Looking around the Cayman S, the car presents exceptionally well. There are no dings or dents to mention, and the panel gaps look to align as they should for the doors, bonnet and boot.

The car's underside also presents well; the floor area is nice and clean, with no areas of concern. Looking around the engine and gearbox, these are also very clean and, importantly, dry, with no leaks spotted.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in the lovely "Atlas Grey Metallic", the car is in fantastic condition. It looks like it has been well looked after with regular cleaning and polishing. The front bumper has been repainted by a previous keeper, meaning stone chips are minimal, but a small amount of paint has come off at the bottom of the nearside. Other than that, there are some minor marks around the door aperture, which may polish out.

The images are taken from a few different angles to show off the car as you would see it if you were standing there for yourselves. So please take the time to fully assess these hi-resolution images and videos of the car, for you to make up your own minds about the condition of the paint.

Glass and Trim

The windows look in good condition, with no apparent scratches on the front, rear, or side windows. The window trims and seals are also in good condition, with no signs of age.

The headlights are in excellent condition with no chips or discolouration. The rear lights are also in good order, with no splits or signs of condensation.

Interior

Black on black is probably the most desirable colour combination for any Porsche - it's easy to see why.

Seats and Carpets

Black leather with a perforated centre section, the seats are in great condition. There is a small amount of colour wear to the driver's bolster, which is pretty much as you would expect for the age of the vehicle, but there is a range of coloured dies available from various leather specialists which should help to cover this.

The carpets are excellent, with no real signs of wear to the main carpet, having had a set of mats fitted for the majority of its life. John has fitted the red mats you see in the images, but another set of carpet mats is included. The front and rear boot areas are nice and clean.

Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Dashboard

There are no splits or cracks to the top of the dashboard and no noticeable scuffs to the lower section. The instruments are working correctly, with the odometer reading ~95,547 miles, and no warning lights are showing when the engine is running.

The car has an aftermarket head unit fitted, that has Andriod auto, Alexa echo auto and also functionality for a parking camera installed too, coming at a cost of ~£2,000. Please see the interior gallery for more hi-resolution images.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The steering wheel is in good condition, with just a light amount of shining to the rim in keeping with the mileage. The Tiptronic buttons are working as they should, with no real wear to them.

The automatic gear selector is in good order and again, just has some light shining on the leather. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

Mechanics

Fully rebuilt with forged pistons - the wonderful 3.4L flat-six is ready to be enjoyed with peace of mind.

Engine and Gearbox

Please take a look at the paperwork gallery; the most important thing you will see is the invoice for £10,209.88 for the rebuilding of the engine that took place in June 2022. The rebuild included new liners, forged pistons, uprated IMS bearing, main bearings, and basically everything required to rebuild the flat-six 3.4 litre engine. In addition, a part stainless steel exhaust system is fitted, which has a slightly enhanced tone at low speed but sounds fantastic when you open up the engine.

The car fires up perfectly with no hesitation, smoke or untoward noises. It pulls well through the gears, and the change is smooth from the Tiptronic box with no issues reported, a service having been actioned in July 2022 as per the receipt from Club Autosport Ltd.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension all looks to be in good condition. A set of new springs were fitted in 2019, and the car rides as it should when going over speed bumps with no knocks or bangs.

The calipers are finished in red with the Porsche decal applied; these look in good order, along with the drilled discs, which have little wear to them. They stop the car in a straight line with no juddering through the pedal.

The Drive

Out on the road, the Cayman S is a fantastic car to be in. It is comfortable, has impressive handling, brilliant performance, and looks great, making it a great usable two-seater Porsche without the higher price tag of a 911.

Electrics and Other

Everything in the car is reported to be working just as it should. The switchgear is all excellent, and John has replaced some switches just because there was a small amount of wear showing.

There is an aftermarket Pioneer headunit fitted, which allows you to connect your phone. The speakers have also been upgraded, and John still has the factory speakers. The aftermarket head unit also connects to a parking camera, and the car also has Android auto, Alexa echo auto, all of this coming to a cost of ~£2,000. Please see the interior gallery for more detailed images.

History and Paperwork

A good service history in terms of stamps are present along with a nice collection of invoices collected over the years, and importantly a car with a rebuilt engine and upgraded IMS bearing.

The Cayman comes with 11 service stamps in the book, and from there is the engine rebuild invoice we mentioned earlier. Several other invoices have also stayed with the car, suggesting it has pretty much had a no expense spared life with John and the previous keepers. The current MOT is valid until 16.12.2023, and the car passed with no advisories.

There is also a genuine Porsche car cover and sun blind, which may be included in the sale depending on the final price. Please note, the personalised registration number is not included in the sale.

What a fantastic opportunity to jump into Porsche ownership in a car with a fully rebuilt engine costing over ~£10,000. Since then, the car has covered just ~4,362 miles making it nicely run in for whoever the new, lucky custodian is.

We've summarised our own view on the car based on information gained from the seller in the listing above, however, and as you can see, we go to great lengths to photograph and video the car in hi-resolution detail - this has been done for you to make your own assessment from the comfort of your sofa. So please sit back, have a cuppa and take your time to review everything on this listing in order to make your own assessment on the vehicle's condition. Viewings are also welcomed with all our listings, so please get in touch with us to arrange a suitable time - we just need to speak to you first and receive a valid photo ID before confirming.

If there's anything you're unsure about, no matter how small, then please first ask the owner in the comments area below before placing your bid/s, as bids can't be retracted and form a binding contract if you win the car - just like a traditional auction house.
