Introduction

Alan Stuart
Automotive Photographer

Arguably the last properly nimble water-cooled 911 - the ever popular 997, and gosh what an investor quality example we have here for you.

As with every Porsche 911, the 997 is an evolution of the preceding model, the most obvious element being the replacement of the old fried egg headlamps back to the more traditional 911 front-end.

The 4S variant offers more power from an increased displacement and not only does the 997 looks the part but also performs on par with the world's best sports cars, especially in terms of acceleration and handling. And let's not forget nimble as we know more recent generations, whilst amazing machines, have well let's say... put on a big of weight.

We think the 997 is truly the last nimble 911 generation that gives its drivers the ultimate 911 experience. We don't think we're alone in this thinking, as prices have been going up almost daily and especially for the very best examples.

This is one of those examples that's sure to cause a stir - just one previous owner, Porsche Mayfair, before being bought by Nick when it was just over a year old. This stunning car has got full Porsche service history by the same dealer, and has suffered a truly pampered life with just 43k miles on the clock. Like we say, investor quality car.

So if you're in the market for a proper 997 C4S in manual form, you want the best you can possibly buy, then you won't want to let this gem pass you by.

This auction listing was written from information supplied by Alan after meeting Nick the owner, and having visited and photographed the vehicle.

Meet the owner

The speed of this car is exhilarating - the sound of that flat-six is just so intoxicating.

Nick is a Porsche guy as he previously owned another 911 for eight years before buying this one in 2008, when it was just one year old.

Back in 2008 Nick was looking to upgrade his 911 and he knew that he wanted a C4S - luckily there was a Porsche main dealer close to him and he spotted this excellent example that he just couldn't resit.

So why is a guy that's owned 911s continuously for around twenty years looking to sell. Simple. Nick is moving abroad and unfortunately the car has to go, as he'll need a left-hand-drive car out there. This is a bitter-sweet pill for Nick, but he's life is changing and so to are his car needs.

GET YOUR VALUATION

Exterior

Stunning in metallic grey - this car is as original and as authentic as it gets.

Wheels and Tyres

The car is fitted with 19" five-spoke alloys which present in excellent condition - there are only a few slight marks as you'll see in the images. Certainly not enough to warrant a refurbishment.

The attractive wheels are wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyres and all look in good visual condition.

Bodywork

What can we say - the images and videos speak for themselves and show just how well cared for this car has been.

We found no significant issues to mention - please just take time to study all the high resolution images and videos.

Paint

The paint is in excellent condition, as you can see.

The colour and finish looks even across the whole car, as can been seen in the bright sunlight conditions.

Glass and Trim

A similar story, i.e. the glass and trim are all in excellent condition for a car that's now around thirteen years old.

Interior

Perfect - even the fan / temp buttons look almost like new - show us another original 997 as good as this.

Seats and Carpets

The heated seats are in excellent condition too and reflect the use and mileage of the car. Importantly the original owner ticked a couple of options here, i.e. 16-way adaptive sports seats with memory function on the driver's side.

You'll notice the driver's bolster is in very good condition - usually due to the design they do tend to show wear quickly, not here though.

We did notice a slight hole starting in the driver's mat - it's not yet gone through so the carpet underneath has been protected. We all like to improve the cars we buy and this maybe one thing to action, i.e. to treat the car to a fresh set of original Porsche mats.

Dashboard

No issues to note - all is presented beautifully and in original condition.

The temp and fan switches are usually the first to show signs of wear due to the rubber-like coating Porsche used back then. However, as you can see they are in remarkable condition.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The optional multi-functional steering wheel is in excellent condition and presents in line with the age and mileage of the car.

The gearstick that drives that all-important 6-speed gearbox is in original condition too. It was also an optional upgrade, i.e. it has aluminium inlay.

Mechanics

A 997 that's been properly maintained at Nick's local Porsche main dealer - how can you resist.

Engine and Gearbox

The heart of this very desirable 911 - always looked after, always serviced and begging to be driven more.

The larger displaced 3.8L was fitted on all 'S' and '4S' models of the 997.1, and offer a 0-60 speed of 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 179mph.

We found no issues on our visit - please watch the On the Road video to see the car starting from cold.

Suspension and Brakes

Fitted with adaptive suspension, perfect for adjusting to any driving circumstance.

Maintenance on the brakes and suspension has been carried out in line with the schedule ensuring that everything works as expected.

The Drive

This is what this car is all about - that proper 911 driving experience that has kept Nick wedded to the model for around twenty years.

Nick assures us the car drives as good as it looks - no issues to report.

Electrics and Other

Nick also tells us that all the electrical items work as expected, e.g. sunroof, sat nav (although older maps now), sports exhaust (optional extra) and heated seats.

The car also has Bose premium sound that is truly an exceptional experience in this car - a great option.

History and Paperwork

Nick's impending move abroad could be your key to acquiring this impeccable example - be quick as bidding will be brisk.

Porsche Centre in Brooklands have serviced this car in accordance with the manufacturer's schedule every two years. Importantly the service history is backed up by numerous invoices and MOTs that substantiate the mileage. You'll also see in the service book that the brake fluid has been changed every year too.

Nick is away until the 5th of September, so the car can be picked up at any time from that date. Because of this it's only fair we more the start of the 7 day completion period from the end of the auction to 9.00am on the 5th of September, i.e. you have 7 days to pay and collect the car from Nick post the 5th of September.

We have actioned our usual checks on the seller, V5 and it's HPi clear.

The car's VIN sticker shows the following extras:
267 Automatically dimmable mirrors
268 Rain sensor
342 Seat heating
377 16-way adaptive sports seat, left
378 16-way adaptive sports seat, right

Would it be possible to speak together about the car? It would give me a lot more peace of mind! My email is rob.com@gmail.com – would be great if we could arrange a brief conversation?

On the interior; it looks like there are some scratches, but there’s no clear photo; could you let me know? https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/porsche/2007-porsche-911-c4s/#gallery2-27

And under the window switches; is this dirt or deterioration/damage? https://www.tradeclassics.com/auctions/porsche/2007-porsche-911-c4s/#gallery2-9

Many thanks

Hi Nick, it looks from the history that a service (and MOT) will be due in the next month or so. As a non Porsche 911 owner (yet) would you be able to advise how much a service might cost, and sharing any things that might need doing? Many thanks.

Nick, I imagine many prospective buyers will have had the same thoughts as me…looks like a lovely and well sorted car, but what might cause the big bills?
1. Has the intermediate bearing been upgraded?
2. Has the rear oil seal been replaced?
3. Has any inspection been done to ensure there is no bore scoring, or has this been addressed in any other way?
Many thanks, and all the best with the sale.
