The 997 is considered by many purists as the best water-cooled 911 - but the Turbo model just takes it to the next level.

Porsche's ability to create one of the most iconic model lines ever manufactured makes any 911 Turbo a desirable car in anyone's book. After a slight deviation, the fifth generation, known as the 997, arrived in 2004. Representing a significant relaunch of the 911 model, the styling was universally praised, which was improved further by the introduction of the Turbo. It naturally adopted the more aggressive stance of past Turbo models and was powered by a variation of the motorsports-oriented Mezger 3.6-litre race-derived engine. With around ~475BHP of power being managed by two turbochargers through all four wheels, its sporting prowess was never in doubt, yet the Turbo's all-round ability made this rocket ship not only exhilarating to drive but was also civilised when it needed to be.

This 2008 late Gen 1 997 Turbo has been well specified from new, boasting the optional Sport Chrono Plus (640) package with the 5-speed Tiptronic S transmission. Finished in Basalt Black with a full black leather interior, it has covered a modest ~39,547 miles from new. Full Porsche Centre service history from new and the useful addition of an upgraded media system. It's recently seen a £5k spend on service items and a fresh set of Michelins.

I’ve owned several Porsches over the years - the 997 has a nice mix of giving great feedback but has a modern feel.

Andrew purchased this stunning 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo from us here at Trade Classics in June 2022. The car was already known to us back then as it belonged to a long-time follower / Porsche enthusiast of ours called Miguel, that had owned the car for four years prior. Soon after Andrew picked up the car from Miguel he headed to southern Spain to stretch the car's legs, which didn’t disappoint, Andrew commented, “it was a fantastic road trip”.

Andrew has now stepped things up a little by buying a new GT3, which is the only reason why he's selling this car - it is quite simply down to a lack of space to store them.

Andrew clearly looks after his cars, as he's just spent around £5k on a fresh service and tyres, he has also set a realistic reserve price, being much lower than what he paid for the car a year ago.

Exterior

Moving back to the 911s roots with the round headlights - the Turbo also received a wider rear end and huge air intakes.

Wheels and Tyres

Fitted with diamond cut 19” alloys, these are in very good condition with just a few minor marks noted on the front wheel, and the centre caps have a small amount of water ingress.

Fitted with four new Michelin Pilot Sport N2 in October 2022, the tyres are still in excellent condition.

Bodywork

What's not to love about the shape of the 911 Turbo - it's a design masterpiece with a wide-body rear spoiler and the iconic 911 silhouette.

Looking around the car, there are no dings or dents to point out; the panels all visually align straight and even, with a matching panel gap. There is a small scuff on the lower lip spoiler, often seen on sports cars, usually picked up from an annoying speed hump.

We've highlighted in more detail our observations through our hi-resolution images and videos, so please take time to look through all the media files for a detailed view of what’s on offer and for you to assess the condition of the car for yourselves.

Paint

Finished in the wonderful Basalt Black, the paintwork presents really well. There are a few light swirl marks which are more noticeable in the sun and especially on black cars. Having said that, they are light and could easily be removed or reduced by a professional detailer via a machine mop and polish. There are a few small stone chips, all of which are in keeping with the age of the 911.

Glass and Trim

The windows are all in good condition with no apparent scratches to be seen.

The headlights are free from any chips or splits, and the car has bumper-mounted LED lights which give a modern appearance. At the rear, the lights are in excellent condition with no damage.

The electric sunroof operates perfectly, sliding backwards and forwards.

Interior

Black leather, black Alcantara and Apple CarPlay - the 997 has a modern feel to it.

Seats and Carpets

The electric black leather seats are in excellent condition with no real signs of wear other than a very tiny amount of colour wear on the driver’s bolster. The electrical and heating functions of the seats are working correctly. The door cards are in good order, with no scuffs or damage. In the rear, these seats are in excellent condition and don’t look to have been used.

The carpets are in good order with no real signs of age. A set of Porsche mats are fitted and are in very good condition. Inside the boot is clean and tidy. There is the original CD multi-changer which no longer needs to be used thanks to the upgraded head unit. The warning triangle and compressor are also present.

Dashboard

The leather-covered dashboard has no issues to mention. The instruments show a reading of ~39,547 miles, and no warning lights are displayed when the engine runs. The centre of the dash is finished in silver, which is in good order with no chips or scratches.

Steering Wheel / Gear Stick

The original black leather steering wheel is in excellent condition, with just a small amount of age-related shining to the rim. The Tiptronic buttons are in good condition with no signs of age to them. The multi-function controls are also still functional with the upgraded head unit.

The gear knob is in good condition with no scuffs or scratches.

Mechanics

3.6 litre flat-six, four-wheel drive, ~475bhp and 0-60mh in ~3.7 seconds - more than enough for a road going car we think.

Engine and Gearbox

The turbocharged 3.6 litre flat-six fires up instantly without hesitation and sounds fantastic with the distinctive tone we can all associate with the flat-six. No issues are reported with the car, and there is a comprehensive service history, dating back to when the car was new.

The five-speed Tiptronic gearbox is an absolute joy. Leave it in fully automatic mode around town for a pleasant and easy drive, and the change is smooth with no issues. Or, if you prefer more spirited driving, you can shift as you wish from the steering wheel buttons, which again gives a smooth, quick change.

Suspension and Brakes

The suspension on the 911 Turbo is firm, as you would expect. No knocks or bangs are coming from any corner of the car, and it handles beautifully, as you would expect.

When the 911 was serviced in October 2022, new rear discs and front and rear pads. Since then, the car has covered around ~270 miles, so they are still in like new condition.

The Drive

You will get a serious amount of enjoyment driving the 911 Turbo. The car gives excellent feedback through the wheel and has superb performance. It also looks fantastic and has a significant presence out on the road.

It's no wonder why the 997 is getting a lot of press recently about being the 'sweet spot' of more modern 911 variants.

Electrics and Other

Andrew has had a Pioneer touchscreen head unit fitted, which has wireless connectivity to your phone and has wireless Apple CarPlay, and there is also a microphone for good quality hands-free. A rear view camera works alongside the factory Park Assistant sensors, and all of this is connected to the factory option Bose speaker system.

Also included is a dash cam which is hardwired in, so no unsightly cables trailing around the cabin. The original factory head unit is included.

The switchgear is all in good condition with no apparent signs of any wear to the buttons, and everything is said to work as it should.

History and Paperwork

With an extensive and full service history - this 2008 911 Turbo has clearly been well cared for.

All the original owner’s handbooks are present, along with the service book, which has seen several visits to Porsche dealers for regular servicing. Andrew had the last service carried out in October 2022, when the new tyres and brakes were fitted. The servicing work is also backed up with several invoices, which we suggest you take a look at, especially the last one just 270 miles ago, which totals over ~£5,000.

The car has two keys present and also has a Tracker fitted, which is functional and registered at the moment but would need to be re-subscribed by the new custodian. The registration number is also staying with the car.

What a fantastic car to own! It has a excellent history, new tyres, brakes, and full service ~270 miles ago means the new custodian can jump straight in and enjoy this 2008 911 Turbo to its full potential for quite a while before the next service is due.

*** UPDATE RESERVE REMOVED*** I’ve just spoken to Andrew and he’s decided to remove the reserve completely to ensure a sale at auction this evening. This is incredible value right now as Andrew paid £53k via us for the car last year and spent way over £5k on it since. So stands in to him at about £58k. Someone could get one great deal here.
